Ok i've been wondering. In pokemon, with EV's and all, do u have to follow serebii, my friend has a ampharos with maxed hp, and he does it with most of his pokemon, because if i had one, i'd put up sp atk and then hp. Ok besides that, wiht houndoom, is it really worth getting sunny day and then useing solarbeam, because, houndoom could die the following turn coudlnt it?

Personal preference. No-one's forcing you to use these movesets, in fact half the fun of battling is thinking up new strategies!

My Pokemon tend to focus on Speed and Special/Physical Defence, merely because I enjoy taking my time to psych out my human opponents.

The point is, use this site as a guide, but you shouldn't really rely on it constantly.

Using Sunnyday you could die that turn? I am pretty sure none of your pokemon know it because you seem only to use attacking moves, together with your friend.

Just find the turn when your opponent uses a Stat-Boosting move, or Defending move like Protect and such and you'll do fine. Don;t be scared by every hit you can get, there are Pokemon Centers around.

And yes, Houndoom's worth getting but it should have high defense. Bold nature.

I agree you shouldn't be afraid of your pokemon getting hurt. Once you have sunny day in the battle. YOu can just start sweeping with Flamethrower and Solarbeam. The sun powers down water attacks and you can take down an ice pokemon with flamethrower. So don't worry about it. YOu might get hit or might be close to fainting, but you could just turn the battle around. Do you mostly play single or double battles?

Honestly, if we all followed the Serebii movesets and not www.smogon.com , then battling would be so painful that we'd all switch to shipping, and that's not a nice thing to think about. :(

And, no, Sunnybeaming Houndoom isn't any good. It stinks. Houndoom will get killed by an Earthquake from something. Don't use Bold on a Houndoom. Don't max out Def and Speed on the same Pokemon: It's pointless.

Houndoom@Leftovers, Petaya Berry
252 SpAtk/252 Spd/6 HP
Timid, Modest
Flash Fire
Flamethrower
Crunch
HP Grass, HP Ice, Roar
Will-o-Wisp

Use this, please.

If the Houndoom is fast enough (and the opponent is dumb enough) the Houndoom could solar beam the earthquaker (assuming it's a ground type) to save itself.

However, EQ is such a versatile move, you never know where it'll show up.

The opponent will probably send out the EQer on the turn Houndoom comes in, so it'll EQ on the Solarbeam turn.

Most of the best EQers don't even have a Grass weakness: Salamence, Nidoking, Metagross, Snorlax, etc. Dugtrio is faster than Houndoom, and HP Grass kills Swampert anyway.
