Sailor Moon: The DiC version.

Anyone besides me really perfer the DiC version to the Cloverway version? I actually perfered the musical rescore in the American version as the Japanese music (unlike pokemon's japanese score) is so cheesy and corny. Actually I never even made it through the S and Super S seasons but I managed to wathc the oringal and R countless times.

Anyone here like the American version?

I like the DiC dub by far over the Cloverway dub. It wasn't the music thing, but I just preferred the voice actors.

Though my preference is still Sailor Moon in Japanese. I didn't like the music when I first heard it but I grew to adore it.

While I like the DIC dub more, I prefer watching Sailormoon in Japanese. Much better and, I think the music is much better than the English version with all the crummy songs.

"You gotta belieeeevee...in the powa of love."

(points above)Crummy!

This Place is Death.
I love that song *points above* But yeah, I think I prefer English, as I've never taken time to watch it Undubbed...

I like both since they have their strengths. Dic had good VAs except Chibusa's/Wrini's and I liked Usagi's/Serena's first henshin music and the Sailor Scout henshin; but I hated the amounts of edits they did.

Cloverway had much fewer edits, but eliminated the famous relationship, had stupid dialouge, several inconsistancies, and turning Pluto into a valley girl(shudders).

is the us-sailormoon backgroundmusic really that bad? Is it synthesis-crap like 4kids does or is it different? I only know the original...

I wonder why animes tend to get new music in the US..it is so much work for nothing.

The Dic music is alot better than the 4Kids music. Although I may be biased as I prefer Moon Prism Power! (The music) to Moon Prism Power! Make-up!(The music)

The DiC music is far superior to the japanese score which sounds so so so cheesy. I rather like some Japanese pieces but the DiC music is more preferable

Actually, I think the DIC music was worse than the Japanese. The first Sm theme song in Japanese was cheesy, but better than listening to a bunch of 7 year olds yell "Sailor Mercury! Sailor Venus! Sailor Mars! Sailor Jupiter!...Secret Powers are woven into her, she is the one named Sailormoon!".

"Never Give Up" was my personal fave end theme. The animation was quite smooth, and unfortunately, DIC and Cloverway both discarded them.

Once you watch the entire series in Japanese, you'll understand how pretty it really is....even the SuperS season. In the Japanese version, Chibiusa grows into a young lady whereas in the US version, she's just as snotty and selfish as she was during the R and S seasons.

I wish the US got the last season, sailor moon sailor stars. What exactly was the reason that the Us didn't get it? I know other countries got it.

There were several reasons as to why. One was content which I can't blame them for. Another was liscencing issues because the price was so high. Lastly, there's an arguement with Takeuchi, the creator of Sailor Moon, and Toei for making the Starlights male.

You mean the three lights? Oh yeah, they were male, but when they transformed into the sailor stars, they became women. And seiya was trying to have a relationship with sereana.

The Japanese transformation music SUCKS* (it's basically just some cheesy tune with someone saying the name of that particular Senshi over and over.), especially Mars' vaguely disco-sounding one.

Also, a lot of the insert songs were better in the dub.

SuperS is awful no matter the language. Toei sure pulled a 4Kids when they adapted that part of the manga...

I believe Toei refused to allow it to be licensed for some reason.

*With the exception of Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto's, who have that cool instrumental one

I disagree. I thought SuperS was a decent season. Definetely not in the same league as Sailorstars, but, Takeuchi indicated that, while the S season was about Usagi's growth, SuperS was Chibiusa's season. I don't think that Chibiusa would have been emotionally mature enough to deal with the anti-messiah or witnessing her friends die in a similiar fashion to the final episodes of the Sailorstars season.

Now, for Sailorstars.

There are a lot of reasons why Sailorstars will likely never air in the US....the Three Lights, the return of Uranus/Neptune(although they returned in a special during the SuperS season) and, of course, the licensing fees. However, Sailorstars is a very violent season. Even during the first few episodes, Usagi really goes through a lot of nasty things. Her man is taken away from her and in a plot reminiscent of "Sleeping Beauty", Usagi has to pursue him through a maze of prickly thorns. Since I don't want to spoil it for you, I'll try to stay away from some of the other examples of the suffering that Usagi experiences throughout this season.

Well you know what Sailor Moon is the first anime were I can like BOTH versions. I can apprectiate the Japanese for being a great anime with a nice story and characters. I can also appreciate the American version (well DiC's) for actually making the show interesting over here...a lot of people complaign about Terri Hawkes...but she was literally PERFECT for Sailor Moon. I also remeber when S and Super S first came out and Cloverway were litereally flooded with emails as to where Mercury Moon and Venus were that they had to publically address the internet.

Also the music cues I like in both versions but I love how DiC had the Sailor Moon theme and had various remixes to it to fit each section. The music just FIT the settings more...I watched the one where Sailor Moon learns about her past and the DiC versions music literally blows away the Japanese music ESP when Serena and Darien are seperated.

The first anmie no matter what changes happened I can like as well.

DiC FTW. Couldn't stand the CW VA after hearing the DiC.

Well, if we're talking about specific dubs, rather than feeding your misguided "the original music sucks" rant- while some aspects of the Cloverway dub were superior to the eDiCted dub, I cannot give my approval to the company that lead a self-deluded DJ to believe she is a voiceactor. (Sugar, who served as Cloverway's Chibi-usa/Reeny VA.)
