Scary/creepy/weird stuff in Pokémon (games, anime, manga etc.)

Being popularly thought of as a 'children's game', Pokémon nevertheless has managed to creep and weird us out a few times. The most obvious would be the fact that Psychic, Ghost and Dark-type Pokémon exist, who are thought of as being more 'supernatural' than the 'natural' types, such as Grass and Water.

But there's more to Pokémon than just cute little Ghost types; there's also genuine mystery and absurdity that has endeared the franchise to many. Here's some famous (or infamous?) examples:

• Lavender Town and the many scary stories (Creepypastas) that have been written about it.
  
• Related to Lavender Town, Blue/Gary's Raticate apparently dying from severe battle injuries.
• The Old Chateau in Sinnoh and the ghosts that roam around.
• The 'disappearing girl' on Marvellous Bridge in Unova and the Strange House where she reappears in the Gen 5 sequels.
• Another ghost girl in one of the office buildings in Lumiose City in Kalos, who causes the lights to go out for a second. "No... You're not the one..."
• Mimikyu's 'true' form, which can cause illness or even death to those who have seen it.
• Why Red never talks.

And there's also some Pokémon weirdness:

• Raichu being able to electrocute an Indian elephant.
  
• Many, many of the Pokédex entries in Gen 7.
• Bewear's hugging habit, which can be dangerous and deadly.
• Arcanine being a legendary Pokémon in China.
• Mew being discovered in South America.

If the player loses to a Fairy Tale Girl at the Battle Maison in X and Y and ORAS, she will say creepy quotes that even suggest the player's death or weird things about the Fairy Tale Girl herself. In some way they are just... ...disturbing.

What kind of things does she say that are creepy?

EDIT: I just remembered the Celestial Tower in Unova. One person there says, after you defeat her, "Oh... My Pokémon is no longer with me." Which implies that you outright killed her Pokémon. It's like Gary's Raticate all over again.

There's another girl who has a Litwick in her party, and after you defeat her, she goes back to the Pokémon Centre in Mistralton City. She says that she feels pretty drained after the battle. Litwick just pretends to be a helpful light, when really it's sucking out people's energy and souls, possibly to death. (I think something similar happened in the Unova series episode, Scare at the Litwick Mansion.)

What kind of things does she say that are creepy?

One thing she says is 'Shhh. Rest now and close your eyes... (new line) You won't need to open them ever again...'. It seems that she is talking to the player to his/her subconscious state given by the three periods after each line. But having one close their eyes forever suggests permanent sleep and hence death.

There is the NPC who gives you the Spell Tag on route 217 in Sinnoh, if you reenter the house she's disappeared.

And as for a general weirdness there is the scientist in the Silph Co building who says he's joined Team Rocket to spite his boss for sending him to the TIKSI Branch, and if you speak to him after the fight he claims its located in Russian no-mans-land. Tiksi is a real place in Russia but its always stood out to me as such a random place to reference and describing it as being in no-mans-land is odd as well.

Weird is the idea that mammalian Pokemon lay eggs. Thank goodness for fan works which depict them giving live birth like the animals they are based on.

If you remember the Day Siblings from Johto, the one for Saturday is called Santos. I found him pretty out-of-place with the other siblings - who are outgoing and friendly - because of his spooky way of speaking, and the fact that he also gives you a Spell Tag. He doesn't disappear after you receive it, though.

Pokémon has made references to real-world places a few times, like Arcanine being worshipped in China and Mew being discovered in South America, as I mentioned in my first post. I believe they made a few references to real places in the anime too, for example, in one episode Cilan says: "He wanted to reach Japan, but instead he ended up in China." And the Minnesota Vikings reference in the first movie.

Parasect. It's being constantly zapped of strength and infected by the mushroom on its back, like some sort of zombie. And it's based off one of the most nightmarish parasite relationships in nature

For weirdness, I remember a Pokedex entry saying a Delibird helped someone who climbed Mt. Everest. I don't know where that is in the Pokemon universe.

One thing I found weird was the mysterious man in Sun and Moon, who gave out a Sun or Moon Stone if the player showed him a Solrock in Sun or Lunatone in Moon, who disappeared by ascending towards space while spinning. I thought that was a weird way to exit.

I remember I thought he was Mr. Bonding from Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire (Turns out he's in X/Y and I don't remember that), but I've forgotten why I thought so.
Speaking of that, the last time you find Mr. Bonding in Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire was really weird, if I remember correctly.

Yeah, it felt like he wanted to get too close to you. And of course he was just there when you started to visit some places and you felt he was following you.

Well I remember the part the other men fused with the man to become Mr Bonding, which confirms the timeline of events in ORAS happened before the events in X and Y. But then the weird part for me was when he became so close to them he literally fused with them.

Believe it or not, something I find reeeaaallly creepy is how, well, nice people are to you in the later games. It can be really unsettling when you approach people in cities and towns and they stare at you with big smiles and say: "I like you, take this item." It's like being in a room with hundreds of people all with that same smile, showering you with gifts and praises when it is clearly obvious there are strings attached, or there are ulterior motives at play. It's stupid, I know.

Maybe not physically, but the way he raised N to be a tool his whole life, crafting an elaborate fantasy for his plans of conquest are rather messed up for a villain in a kids game. And it's heavily implied he'd kill N once he no longer needs him, despite playing the role of father. He also uses direct violence to get what he wants by forcing Kyurem to freeze over areas of Unova, and his plan of controlling people by being the only person with Pokemon is all but saying "I'm going to cow the populace into doing whatever I like by threatening their lives with Pokemon attacks". Few antagonists in the series are that bluntly violent and it comes off as kind of scary

In some way I found Valerie's eyes creepy. They're so big her eyes look like they're those from some Eeveelution. But then still she wanted to resemble some Pokémon, which explains why her eyes are so big.

There's so much weirdness in Gen 7 as a whole. Like MANY of the Dex entries: Mimikyu's Sun entry says a scientist died of fright by looking under its rag, and Bewear's Moon entry says it's killed people from hugging them too hard.

Gen 7 is the weirdest generation yet.

Ghetsis is probably the closest Pokémon has ever gotten to a terrorist. I think all the evil team leaders (except Guzma and Plumeria) could technically be considered terrorists since they want to destroy the world for their own aims, like Cyrus wanting to make a world without emotions, or Lysandre bombing up an entire town with the ultimate weapon.

If you look at Valerie, she sort of looks like Sylveon. The colour scheme is similar, and the ribbons look like Sylveon's feelers. The 'wings' Valerie wears also ties in to her Fairy-type specialism.

I believe it's mostly the pink colouring that links her to Sylveon but Valerie doesn't have many tinges of white and more or so black, which for so, I don't think she is that connected. They both have really large eyes anyway. For the 'wings', they remind me of fairy wings.

(I seriously love how the Gym Leaders and Trial Captains get their names. You can't beat Brock and Roark the Rock. )
