Secret Base battles

I mixed recorde with a ruby. The guy had six beauitfly in which I was gonna use to EV train my pokemon. He had a secret base in his game and we mixed records. Thing is, in his secret base(in my game, after we mixed records), I can't fight the dude. He won't fight me!! I've made it to the Elite Four (I haven't defeated them yet). Is there something that I have to do in order to battle trainers in their secret base?

You have to defeat the elite four in order to challenge secret base trainers.

You can battle trainers that you mix records with at their secret bases? That's new to me. Now if only I actually knew somebody who I could mix records with.....
