SeeDs
Balamb Garden has long since stood out as the premier academy for training SeeDs - specialized elite mercenaries hired by clients to engage in various tasks. Any student who wishes to enter the academy is accepted, though there is no guarantee that they will all become SeeDs. To achieve the rank of SeeD, a strictly examined test must be taken and passed. These tests are actually SeeD missions where testes accompany SeeD mercenaries on the job. Because the tests are so harshly examined, only a small percentage of each testing group actually pass. Students who fail the exam are welcome to remain in the academy, hone their skills, and try again.
SeeDs and prospective SeeDs are trained at Balamb Garden in a variety of combat styles and arts. Hand to hand combat, weapon training, magic use, and summoning are all courses which may be taken. There is no set curriculum as Balamb Garden is an academy, not a school, though there are stills tests and exams and formal instruction. Students may take many different kinds of courses or choose to specialize in one area.
Balamb Garden comes fully equipped with dormitories, libraries, many classrooms, quads, an infirmary, cafeteria, training grounds, and more. Whenever students are free of class obligations, they are free to do as they wish, so long as their activities do not violate academy rules. There is nothing like a summer break, however, as Balamb Garden is a full time commitment. It is not a school, but elite training for a profession. Students do get weekends off, however, for SeeDs, nothing is certain. SeeDs continue to live in the Garden, but upon achieving the SeeD rank, a student is said to be "graduated." They are now at the Garden's full disposal and must commit themselves to the job.

That said, in this RPG, players will be playing students at Balamb Garden. There is no real plot in the sense that there is a story with an ultimate goal. Instead, players will take a SeeD exam and be part of a SeeD squadron and be at the Garden's disposal for various missions. For the first bit, however, there will be a bit of open ended time as the players being students and doing as they wish at the Garden.
As you may notice, this is an RPG incorporating elements of Final Fantasy VIII. No knowledge of Final Fantasy VIII is needed, as I am only taking the aspects of the Garden and SeeD mercenaries from it.

The Garden
Balamb Garden is divided into annexes. The North Annex includes the Dormitories and Cafeteria. The West Annex is made up of the Infirmary and the Quad. The East Annex consists of the Training Grounds and the Library. The South Annex holds the Parking Lot and the huge hangars which hold SeeD vehicles. Classrooms are dispersed throughout the entire grounds. The Headmaster's office is on the top floor, and is accessible only if authorized. The Headmaster's name is Headmaster Dican.
All students at Balamb Garden are taught in the field of magic. There are ten types of magic: Black, White, Fire, Water, Earth, Wind, Thunder, Ice, Poison, and Void. You may choose one element to have mastery over. Magic will upgrade as you progress. Keep in mind that though there is no form of mana or magic power, excessive magical use will drain energy from the user.
Black Level 1 - Drain, Blind
White Level 1 - Cure, Protect
Fire Level 1 - Fire, Confuse
Water Level 1 - Water, Silence
Earth Level 1 - Quake, Slow
Wind Level 1 - Aero, Float
Thunder Level 1 - Thunder, Stun
Ice Level 1 - Blizzard, Sleep
Poison Level 1 - Bio, Esuna
Void Level 1 - Demi, Haste
Elements are paired off into opposing elements, which have increased effect when used against each other. (That is, if a creature has a specific element associated to it, the opopsing spell will do more damage).
Black <-> White
Fire <-> Water
Earth <-> Wind
Thunder <-> Ice
Poison <-> Void
If you want to know what a spell does, ask, because a lot of it is self explanatory and I don’t feel like writing them all out. You can decide on the spell animation, but keep in mind these are low level spells.
Guardian Forces: Guardian Forces (GFs is a creatures that can be summoned by anyone who has found and created a bond with one. A bond is usually created simply by the person besting the GF in some sort of challenge, combat or not. Guardian Forces can also be obtained by having someone "give" another the GF. When summoning a GF, a person must focus, for summoning works by calling to another plane where the GF resides. The GF then answers the call and appears before its master and releases its attack.
Guardian Forces only last for their one attack. Afterwards, they exit the plane and return to their own until they are summoned again. The longer a person is bonded with a GF, the quicker they can answer the transdimensional call.
I will provide a list of level one GFs, including a name, picture, attack name, and attack description. As more GFs are obtained, I'll probably let you guys create the attacks, but I'll start things off. Like spells, keep in mind that these GFs are level one, so their attacks aren't going to be super powerful, though they are better than a single spell.
You may choose one GF. It doesn't need to match your chosen element. For size visualizations and descriptions, all of the following GFs are 4-6 feet long/tall, so they aren't huge at all.

As for weapons, you can use a medieval-type weapon (swords, axes, and what not), or modern ones (guns are allowed). Gunblades are also permitted, which is the SeeD archetypical weapon - a blade attached to the handle and trigger of a gun. Regardless of what you pick, nothing magical or special is allowed.

Final note.. I reserve the right to deny any sign up. I will not allow a second chance unless it is something very minor. I will probably close sign ups after five acceptable sign ups. I will only reserve sign ups for people who I have confidence in.
