This, honestly. I can’t have any worries about Chuck’s new VA or any other character that hadn’t more than three previous voiced appearances.

The thing is, why bring back this specific character if you can't afford to hire his VA to reprise his role? We're not talking about some massively popular character people are dying to see again, a character who plays a major role in a currently relevant game, or a character they otherwise have a reason to promote, we're talking about, let's be fair, one of the most forgettable gym leaders in the entire franchise. Why pick him of all people as the one you're bringing back if you can't afford to go all the way?

Hell, if anything I'd bet there were more Kakuda fans excited about Kakuda's character returning than there were Shijima fans excited about about Shijima returning.

I initially thought that the whole reason for bringing Chuck back specifically was because of his VA being Nobuaki Kakuda. But seeing that's not the case... like... why not Marshal, or even Maylene, instead? What exactly was the thought process here??

All I can think of is that maybe he was supposed to reprise his role but backed out at the last minute? It just seems like a really odd choice to make if that's not the case. Even more so than it was to begin with.

Almighty Zard

He has returned.
Probably because he is that forgettable. No one will give special treatment to an one note character that’s not specifically relevant in any instance for good 2 decades.

He was mentioned a few times in the anime by other characters, most notably Greta of the battle frontier was said to have been inspired by him.

Even so he only appeared in one episode before this one, so I can't see what the big deal is about his first VA not reprising his role, especially since that was a really long time ago as well.

If this is going to be Chuck's only appearance.... why replace his VA? They could just as easily bring back Hala, or use Brawley/Maylene/Greta or debut Marshal. Not like the universe is shy of Fighting specialists

If it was somebody of importance like May, that'd be fine(Do it!)
But bringing back a minor character like Chuck and not even getting his VA back just feels... wrong. Especially as it feels like any Fighting specialist could fulfill his role here, hopefully he at least implies he wants to battle Ash later or something.

The more important the character, the more backlash they will receive from changing the VA.

Before the summary, not many even remember Chuck...

I personally don't mind the VA change but why like it makes sense from a money standpoint but still if the dude is gonna appear in one episode why recast it isn't gonna be a lot of profit or maybe they are pulling a sneaky one like sobble maybe ash defeats bea in this episode and then they become rivals and then chuck starts training bea but if chuck is not gonna come back again why will they do that still I don't know

Apparently, Chuck is not going to be voiced by his first VA, so I'm wondering if they'll still make a nod to their original battle.

I didn't read the previous posts addressing this...
