Great Ball Rank Trainer
Happy Hitmontop is being used after the focus on the other two hitmons in the prev EP ( poor tyrogue) but seriously, Pikachu? G. Farfetch'd should have beaten Hitmontop and then lost to grappoloct, not freaking Pikachu again. The writers really take one step backward with every step forward don't they? Hope riolu doesn't evolve atleast.
Yeah, but remember how upset everyone got in the last match since he used Farfetch’d instead of Pikachu, Dragonite, or Gengar?

It’s redundant & takes the moment away from Ash’s other pokémon, but also the smart option since Pikachu’s one of his stronger mons. Plus, his size & speed are best suited to countering Hitmontop’s attacks

"I..I..Iron Tail, Pikachu."
Unless the writers actually do something with Farfetched he's in Palpitoad territory currently, unpredictable interesting capture utterly wasted immediately, though you can make that argument the rest of the team.

Really haven't seen team focus this dreadfully lopsided since the BW days honestly

At least they had the excuse of Ash rotating his roster. Right now he only has 6 if you count Mimey.

Farfetch'd :(, I hope this is 3vs3...I know the focus is Rioulo and the octopus, but Î didn't want to see Pikachu here, I wanted Farcetch'd to win. Hopefully when Lucario happens, it get can get a little of focus, maybe it just evolves to Sirfecth'd and gets the Gengar treatment.

I think farfetch’d will get a lot more use when it evolves, but the question is when that will even be.

From the preview, it doesn't give off the feeling of this being the big rematch where Ash wins and elevates himself in the rankings, like a Gym battle rematch. I'm hoping he loses actually, and the rematch is a 3v3 in Galar where G'Farfetch'd is used.

Considering she doesn't seem to be using Hawlucha, why should he use G-Farfetch'd? I thought the principle reason for it wanting to be used was to get revenge on the pokemon who beat it, not just taking a win against something else.

I still think Bea is going to ask Ash for a rematch at a later time if he does win, but who knows and when it will happen is another thing.

Still want him to win though and get back in the super tier, she woke him up and now it's time to act on it.

Well since Pikachu is being used, if it manages to inflict enough damage on Grapploct before going down then Riolu might be able to beat it and not have to evolve just yet (the more pics I see, it's starting to feel like Riolu and Raboot might evolve at the same time, but who knows)

still I'm not picky about how he does it, I want Ash to win this and get back into the super tier.

I can understand the annoyance of G-Farfetch'd not being used, but if Hawlucha's not being used either...then it's not as bad to me, cause I would think it would want revenge against the pokemon who beat it, not someone else.

Seriously, Pikachu? Farfetch'd needs his redemption too, you've got enough.

Bad enough they didn't do any actual work before this episode, swapping Farfetch'd out just makes the win here more underwhelming.

On the bright side, at least Pikachu is likely going to faint!

Farfetch'd better be getting the next one, along with anyone not named Pikachu

I actually don’t find G-Kamonegi not fighting, this thing only knows Dark-type moves which are obviously not good against a Fighting-type specialist and a Satoshi hadn’t done any training or had any buildup with it like with Riolu to the point where I believe things would be different in a rematch. Plus I like it when Satoshi innovates in rematches by switching out a Pokémon or two. Narratively Kamonegi gains nothing from winning or losing to Saito since Saito and her Pokémon weren’t really anything important toward its character or growth.

Riolu struggled against Octolock, Saito and got news of M-Lucario and Corni’s defeat so it was always the star and one who needed redemption. I’m glad Saito switched out Luchabull, Kapoerer has such a fun design and way of battling I’m glad it’s getting screen time. I’m guessing Pikachu will help weaken Otosupus for Riolu to beat...because Pikachu getting wrapped up by an opponent and using Thunderbolt at close range is like the...most common and obvious things ever for a lot of damage (why do trainers do this to Electric-type Pokémon again...?)

I wonder if this will be 2-0...sort of revenge for the first battle and with how the writers have been portraying Pikachu after vaporizing Kapu Kokeko they seem apprehensive of giving it hard losses this series. Regular struggles at best but obviously Riolu is taking a win. Animation and hand movements look pretty cool, ngl.

I look at it as this, if she's not using Hawlucha then why should it fight? The purpose of revenge is to beat the pokemon who defeated you, not take on someone else entirely, because you won't really grow from that previous loss.

unless Pikachu can blast itself loose with Thunderbolt, I doubt it.

Easygoing Luxray.
Well, there it is. The writers immediately confirm Bea can smile, but said smile didn't come first after getting beaten. I swear. It kind of devalues her character because now when she smiles after her defeat it will feel less meaningful.

I guess Ash didn't want to overkill things with Dragonite so he's at least letting Big Bro Pikachu soften up the sushi for Riolu to eat before it eats him.

Chuck-sama. You're beauiful. Now we just need justice for Marlon, and I'm happy.

The thing is, why bring back this specific character if you can't afford to hire his VA to reprise his role? We're not talking about some massively popular character people are dying to see again, a character who plays a major role in a currently relevant game, or a character they otherwise have a reason to promote, we're talking about, let's be fair, one of the most forgettable gym leaders in the entire franchise. Why pick him of all people as the one you're bringing back if you can't afford to go all the way?

Hell, if anything I'd bet there were more Kakuda fans excited about Kakuda's character returning than there were Shijima fans excited about about Shijima returning.

This.

Honestly, I keep asking myself: why not use Marshal instead? He's never shown up in the show. So they can get just about anyone they want to play him. He being serious about training could make a nice parallel with Bea if anything.

The only thing I can think of as an explanation is that they had arranged everything (aka budget) for Kakuda to return but then everything fell apart duo scheduling or other issues like the corona-induced hiatus

Probably because he is that forgettable. No one will give special treatment to an one note character that’s not specifically relevant in any instance for good 2 decades.

Yes, but still his original VA has some celebrity status which would justify special treatment.

Not very likely.

This²

There's a big difference between a one-episode gym leader Ash beat and a 100+ episodes companion.

DuquÊ?

Too lazy to pick a pic
SHE SMILES!!!!!!
No one cares. If she smiles so easily, so this “depression/surpass octolock” arc was an horrible hype.

Disappointed there’ll be no special combo except for riolu apparently using dual vacuum wave to simulate aura sphere, but, let’s see how the actual episode will play with it.

Also, is Bea a teenager? Preview made her looks even taller.
