Previews don't show everything we don't know what the battle actually is.

I actually don’t find G-Kamonegi not fighting, this thing only knows Dark-type moves which are obviously not good against a Fighting-type specialist and a Satoshi hadn’t done any training or had any buildup with it like with Riolu to the point where I believe things would be different in a rematch. Plus I like it when Satoshi innovates in rematches by switching out a Pokémon or two. Narratively Kamonegi gains nothing from winning or losing to Saito since Saito and her Pokémon weren’t really anything important toward its character or growth.

Riolu struggled against Octolock, Saito and got news of M-Lucario and Corni’s defeat so it was always the star and one who needed redemption. I’m glad Saito switched out Luchabull, Kapoerer has such a fun design and way of battling I’m glad it’s getting screen time. I’m guessing Pikachu will help weaken Otosupus for Riolu to beat...because Pikachu getting wrapped up by an opponent and using Thunderbolt at close range is like the...most common and obvious things ever for a lot of damage (why do trainers do this to Electric-type Pokémon again...?)

I wonder if this will be 2-0...sort of revenge for the first battle and with how the writers have been portraying Pikachu after vaporizing Kapu Kokeko they seem apprehensive of giving it hard losses this series. Regular struggles at best but obviously Riolu is taking a win. Animation and hand movements look pretty cool, ngl.

Of course not because they felt giving Go a million quality captures then give Ash a single episode training and bonding with his Pokemon

Mostly everything is offscreen land for Ash.

I'm guessing the smile happens post-battle. Why?

'Cause Bea only smiles around people she can truly trust and respect, much like the player character in Sword & Shield.

Plus, I doubt eating sweets BEFORE a battle is good for anyone...

I am honestly somewhat shocked and upset that Ash isn't using G Farfetchd here. He talked about wanting to get revenge in front of both Riolu and G Farfetchd and for him to end up replacing the duck with Pikachu instead? Why? G Farfetchd hasn't done anything remotely impressive since its capture and the spotlight has been focused on Riolu instead.

I am REALLY hoping that the duck gets some development in the near future for when it evolves into a Sirfetchd, otherwise I don't see the point in Ash having caught the thing. (And im a broken record - Lack of development for his other Pokemon is the reason why I like the idea of him just using reserves to showcase other regions Pokemon. Gengar and Dragonite have only had a handful of battles too and the writers continue to just bring Pikachu and Riolu with Ash...)

My biggest concern with the duck is that they haven't really done too much with it.
They made such a big deal out of Ash getting him only to kind of just subtly shaft it seemingly.
this is made a bit more noticeable because the duck is also our sole Generation 8 rep at the moment too.

I played Pokémon Shield so I fought Allister. What is with people's focus on seeing this chick smile? Was that a character quirk from the games?
She's the "stoic but with a big heart" character. She only shows emotion to people she's comfortable around and who have proven themselves (obviously the MC in game is perfect so they manage to break through to her)

Let's just say that she's popular with a certain crowd if you know what I mean.
She also may or may not actually be the star of a ton of popular "Comics" of the intense variety

As someone that actually likes riolu, I’m damn eager to see farfetch’d finally have its climatic battle. I mean, at least one win or so before its evolution, instead something like Ash’s gligar, whose first wins came only after it becomes gliscor (-miss you, gliscor-).

Gou’s screen time is his own and has no correlation to Satoshi’s screen time or the amount the writers choose to give Satoshi. The problem is you’re making Satoshi’s screen time and writing Gou’s business in the first place. Gengar and Kairyu weren’t exactly getting a ton of focus and development episodes after they were caught but that has nothing to do with Gou. They didn’t mind giving Pikachu an episode of focus on his and Satoshi’s bond after all. Gou has nothing to do with this episode and scapegoating characters around Satoshi for his questionable writing choices is a trend I got exhausted of since the BW-era.

I didn’t know Gou was keeping Satoshi from using or training Gengar, was Gou using his Goloog in today’s episode stealing screen time from Satoshi’s Ghost-type?

I don't get people like that irl. What makes them think they are better than others that people have to be worthy of standard and basic human interaction.

Ah so it fulfills the male fantasy of a managing to let a tough girl let down her walls so he can get in them.

So the real reason.

And don't forget the opening, hey look Riolu and Farfetch'd are training togethe-oh wait, that doesn't happen at all!
That's the main thing though, Farfetch'd is supposed to be evolving soon... yet he doesn't have a single win under his belt. Why is Pikachu fighting now if they felt the need to have him sit out last time? It feels cheap, especially as Farfetch'd is denied a chance to redeem himself

It doesn't feel very Ash-like at all either, this is the guy that chose to use his Sinnoh team to beat Paul instead of simply using Sceptile and Snorlax on top of Infernape and Pikachu
Farfetch'd better not be the new Kingler...

That’s not what I mean. She’s still respectful and isn’t dismissive unless you beat her. It’s more so only wanting to be vulnerable around people who she feels comfortable with.

That being said, people who act like anime rivals who feel the need for you to prove yourself to be treated with the bare minimum and recognition are terrible people.

Looks like a 2 vs. 2 instead of a 3 vs. 3. Think someone suggested Dragonite would help Ash learn to counter Octalock

No its not, this isn't a real life documentary where Go paid "Animal Planet" more money to focus on him over Ash and I have to pay $1499.99 to get the good stuff that was cut.

This is a fictional series designed by heads who are playing favorites with Go. There's absolutely no reason to give Go this much focus and give Ash only important PWC matches.

Look at how they treated Ash catching Farfetch'd in comparison to Go getting Sobble, especially with the line of thinking "OH MY GOD GO DIDN'T CATCH ANYTHING, WAAAAAA, WAAAAA, RED ALERT."

You know throwing Ash under the bus acting like Go was wronged despite catching more Pokemon to Ash on top of episodes where he didn't catch anything. All to play clear favorites, then Go ends up with Flygon, Alolan Pokemon and focus and then Aerodactyl.

Meanwhile Ash gets nothing but pure failure and a pep talk.

It’s easy to give a character with a goal like Gou’s focus episodes surrounding a Pokémon with a capture, it’s his goal and there are nearly 1000 Pokémon in the franchise. The shows main goal is to show off and advertise Pokémon on an episodic basis in a charming and fun fashion. There’s many casual ways to get Pokémon, trades, gifts, evolution, fossils, raids, etc. the way you perceive it is that if we removed Gou’s focus on reviving and catching Ptera that that episode would suddenly be a Satoshi focus episode...it wouldn’t. It would be a “COTD has a problem, Satoshi helps, TRio steals” filler. You would have gotten some generic professor character studying the fossils, them getting revived and running amuck and causing trouble with a generic TRio blastoff at the end and resolution...like every other series.

Bud, you’re salty for no reason and you’re really trying to force Gou as being the reason surrounding Satoshi’s writing choices. If you want more screen time for the duck why not blame Riolu? Gengar and Kairyu weren’t getting focus after being caught either. They appear for battles and just disappear, I don’t see anything super out of place.

For sure! So far the duck has been losing every battle its participated in. Ash offered it to join him so that it could grow stronger, and yet it feels like Ash has been doing the complete opposite with it. Maybe I shouldn't get too ahead of myself. MAYBE the writers just want to get the Riolu evolving into Lucario thing out of the way before putting more attention to G Farfetch'd, but as it is I am very wary and have my doubts...

Exactly why I'm surprised. Why showcase Riolu and Farfetch'd sparring with one another in the opening when it wasn't going to happen? I know for many anime they include scenes that don't happen, but every single time I've been disappointed. This was supposed to be a "revenge" match, and like you said with his Sinnoh team, I fully expected Ash to use G Farfetch'd and Riolu since BOTH of them faced losses in their previous battle against Bea.

Sure, Pikachu is his main partner, but I am not too fond of G Farfetch'd getting shafted for the electric mouse... For now I'll just hope they have bigger plans for the duck otherwise its capture was just for nothing IMO.
