1. Look and read the stickies on each sub-forum.
Most of the sub-forums have stuck topics which usually have rules (important), FAQs or other commonly used service, and topics that are popular. Make sure you look through each one of these before posting a new topic.
The general forum FAQ can be found at: http://www.serebiiforums.com/faq.php
A guide to using this forum among other FAQs can be found at: http://www.serebiiforums.com/showthread.php?t=292404
2. Frequently check for forum announcementsThe general forum FAQ can be found at: http://www.serebiiforums.com/faq.php
A guide to using this forum among other FAQs can be found at: http://www.serebiiforums.com/showthread.php?t=292404
Announcements are made occasionally to inform users of any events that are going on in the forum. General forum announcements can be found at http://www.serebiiforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=4 while each sub-forum has their own announcement ticker at the top of the topic listings.
3. User ranks do not mean anythingUser ranks are the default title and graphical banner that appear next to your name. These upgrade at certain milestones in your posting count. However, this is merely to give a sense of posting accomplishment, nothing more. User ranks do not give you any more power or privileges (unless you’re a moderator or admin).
4. Proper Forum Etiquette1. Use proper grammar when you can: This is a major plus. If you use proper English grammar, then it’s more likely that people will take you seriously. Using “netspeak” is not recommended, it also makes it harder for other people to understand you.
2. Be patient: Allow a reasonable amount of time for something to happen. If you’re posting a question, don’t expect an answer within five minutes. Do not post right after your post whining that nobody’s replied especially. This results in a spam, double post, and possible a bump infraction.
3. Use common sense: Remember, this is the internet. Make good judgment calls on what to take seriously, ask questions when you don’t understand what’s going on, and make sure to read posts so you’re not going into a topic blind. However, at the same token, don’t act stupid, don’t assume everyone is nice, and don’t act like this a perfect place.

1. Do not ask for or discuss illegal content
Illegal content is any of the following (but not limited to) that was not obtained from an authorized source:
Also do not discuss peer-to-peer programs like BitTorrent and Limewire.
2. Image usage- Television programs (including anime)
- Movies
- OVA
- Video games, including CD/DVD images and console ROMs
- Game console emulators (While most emulators are technically legal, some are illegal due to BIOS images needed, among other things)
- Music
- Manga
- Books, including scanned or electronic
Also do not discuss peer-to-peer programs like BitTorrent and Limewire.
While posting of images is fine, keep in mind of the following:
If you need image hosting sites:
3. Do not ask for help regarding cheating devices or cheat device codes- Limit posting of images to a few. Depending on the nature of your post, this limit will be exempt.
- Images should not be huge. Keep it under 640x480. The forums can downscale any image larger than this by using the [imgsize="HxW"]URL[/imgsize] code, were H and W are numerical values and URL is the location of the image on the internet.
- Images must be under 300KB. However, keep in mind that using [imgsize="HxW"]URL[/imgsize] will not change the file size.
- Do not post not safe for work (NSFW) images, images that contain offensive/disgusting/shock material, or anything illegal. You will be banned for posting these materials
- If you're posting artwork, give credit where it's due.
- Provide your own bandwidth. Do not directly link an image from a website to here. This is stealing bandwidth because then they have to pay for their image to be on here. Download the image and host it on a image hosting site like Photobucket. The only exceptions to this are SPP, SPP Forums, and your own website.
If you need image hosting sites:
- Imageshack
- Photobucket
- *******
- Imagevenue
- Imageno
- Imagebam
We do not support devices such as Action Replay or Game Shark. We also do not provide codes (except for http://www.serebiiforums.com/showthread.php?t=101740 ). If you really want help in regards to your device, refer to your instruction manual or use a search engine (http://www.google.com works really well).
Posting Rules1. Posting requirements.
The forum automatically enforces a ten character limit, including spaces, but excluding VBB code and URLs. Also do not use a font size greater than 3 for general posting. You may use a larger size for attention getting phrases only. An example would be "HEY EVERYONE!", but nothing like "HEY EVERYONE! I LIKE CHOCOLATE ICE CREAM!". English is required on all posts as well.
2. Limit the use foul language.Foul language here is anything that you can’t say for television programs meant for general audiences (in USA ratings, PG). This basically consists of cuss words, profanity, and racial remarks. Also do not use foul language in any form (censored or in some “alternative” spelling) in your signature, location, or user title since this will be seen in every post.
3. Do not post explicit material.
Basically, do not post pornography, or anything else that’s considered “not safe for work” (NSFW). You may talk about some adult interests (like television shows or movies rated for mature audiences), but flag the topic if necessary.
4. Do not Spam.Spam can be defined as the following:
5. Do not post multiple times in a row.- Is obviously stupid, pointless, and/or annoying. ( "peekachew is teh r0x0rs!!!111!!" or "in before lock")
- Does not contribute or is off topic. (Topic about Manafi: "Manafi is the new Pokemon!" or "There should be a new battle system for D/P".) This also includes posting just "Yeah, I agree" with nothing else.
- Insulting someone or provoking an all out insult-fest. ("Latios sucks!", "j00 n00b", and "<random people group> are < random insult>")
- Making a statement with no further information to back it up. This usually happens when someone complains about a mod but doesn’t provide evidence.
- Makes absolutely no sense. ("OMFG I LIKE CAUGHT THIS MEWTWO AND THEN I TRADED MY CARD FOR A HOLO AND I ROXORS UR YOUR TEAMS SUXORS LULZ")
- Advertising anything outside of Serebii.net or the forums. You can post a link to provide information in response to a question or debate however. And advertising in your signature is fine, as long as you comply with the signature rules.
- Replying to a spam post or a topic that is spam.
If you make a topic or reply to a topic, you cannot post right after that one. Should you need to make corrections, use the
button located at the bottom right of your post.
The only exception to this rule is for people updating their fan work.
6. Do not bump topics. The only exception to this rule is for people updating their fan work.
The definition of bumping topics is if a topic has no replies in 30 days or the last reply was made for the sole purpose of pushing the topic to the top of the listings. However, certain topics can be bumped (that is, posted past the 30 day limit, not the latter definition), including:
If the topic you wish to reply to is past the 30 day period, and you think the topic still has life in it, you may repost the topic.
7. Do not post topics or replies with similar or already existing information.- Announcements
- Stuck topics (topics that are permanently at the top of the topic listings)
- Fan works to update them
- Any topic in the Episode Discussion forum in the anime section
- Topics in the RPG forum (if they are considered active)
If the topic you wish to reply to is past the 30 day period, and you think the topic still has life in it, you may repost the topic.
This counts as spam. If you’re uncertain if a similar topic or post exists, use the search feature located at the top right of the page.
8. Do not abuse smiliesThe normal usage limit to using smilies is a few. This also includes using the Unown smilies as regular letters.
9. Do not use a consecutively long quote.A long quote is anything more than two paragraphs. If you want to comment on someone’s post, delete what isn’t relevant and comment on that. Even if you have a lot to say, chop the quote up into chunks.
10. Do not trollTrolling is posting to purely poke fun at someone, mostly to annoy or anger.
Private Messaging (PM) Rules & Guidelines1. All posting rules apply, but in addition to that, do not make or send chain PMs
The PM system was made for members to talk to each other, not for you to send superstitious letters or advertise your forums.
2. Reporting PMsForward the PM to a mod with a subject that clearly says you’re reporting the PM. Make sure to quote it.
However if the reported PM turned up to be a problem, then the offender can contest to this. If there is a further issue, the administrators can take a look at the PMs to see what’s going on and take the appropriate action. Otherwise no action will be taken.
Administration RelationsHowever if the reported PM turned up to be a problem, then the offender can contest to this. If there is a further issue, the administrators can take a look at the PMs to see what’s going on and take the appropriate action. Otherwise no action will be taken.
The administration is any moderator, moderator+, super moderator, and admin on the forums. In the chat they are half-ops, AOps, and SOps. Collectively they are just called mods or ops.
1. Do not disrespect a mod/op if action was taken against you.
Disrespecting a mod will only make things worse. There are more civilized ways to deal with things if they take action against you.
2. What to do if you disagree with an infractionYou may talk to the person who gave you the infraction, present your case, etc. If you feel that talking to that person won't go anywhere, you can bring it up to another mod.
3. Do not mini-mod.In other words, do not moderate the forums or chat yourself, unless you are a mod or op. Normal members do not have the power to enforce anything, and in most cases, will simply make things worse. If you want a mod to look at a topic or post, report it.
4. Do not ask if you can become a mod or op.There is criteria: http://www.serebiiforums.com/showpos...48&postcount=3 .
5. Do not whine about an infraction.Remember that there’s a difference between whining and complaining. If you’re fed up with this place, then leave.
Topics regarding bans1. If you’ve been banned, don’t evade it.
The administration has means to identify you if you attempt to evade a ban, and thus you’ll just be banned again.
2. Do not give a banned member access to your account. If you give a banned member access to your account, we will assume you are an accomplice and will just ban that account as well.
3. Do not ask why a person was banned or create topics to bring that person back. The administrators are not ban happy, all bans must go logged, and really, we have no incentive to ban other than to keep order in the forum. On the same token, don’t make a topic asking for a person to be banned or to be banned.

Social Networking Rules
1. All posting rules sort of apply
However don't expect moderated action. Because you have the ability to control your own page, don't whine to the mods that your page is full of junk. You can delete them all. If the person is constantly spamming up your page however, then action will be taken into consideration.
2. Do not create social groups aimed at bashing others, have racists implications, etc.No anti-semitic groups, white supremacist groups, anti-gay groups, etc. Anyone who starts such a group will be banned. Everyone else who joined will most likely get the appropriate punishment later.
3. If you want to create a group that may be questionable to have, ask a mod or admin first if you can create itIf you're unsure whether or not your group is acceptable, you can ask a mod or admin. In fact, you should ask a mod or admin.
4. Do not pester people to join your group, be your friend, etc.You don't get rewards for being the biggest group or having the most amount of friends anyway.
5. Do not make groups for specific membersThat's what your friends and your profile page are for. We don't need a social group glorifying a member on the forum.
6. Groups are general. Ex) Don't make a Charizard Social Group. This is to prevent a gross of new groups forming up, and all of them pertain to a specific topic.
Infractions1. Infraction Point System
Issuing penalties is based on a point system, where each penalty is worth a certain number of points, and after you’ve accumulated a certain total, you automatically receive a temporary ban (until a certain point). The types of punishment and their point values are as follows:

Signature strikes are different than infractions. For breaking one of the signature rules, the following will happen:
3. Involvement1st offense: Problematic area of your signature will be erased.
2nd offense: Entire signature will be erased.
3rd offense: Entire signature will be erased and a week ban will be issued.
4th offense: Entire signature will be erased and a two week ban will be issued.
5th offense: Loss of signature privileges and a month ban will be issued
2nd offense: Entire signature will be erased.
3rd offense: Entire signature will be erased and a week ban will be issued.
4th offense: Entire signature will be erased and a two week ban will be issued.
5th offense: Loss of signature privileges and a month ban will be issued
It’s perfectly justifiable for all parties that were involved in say, an argument, to receive infraction points.
4. How you will be notifiedWhenever you are issued an infraction, you will be notified via PM and/or email that you have received one, except for ones labeled with “No warning”. If there is any further issue the mods may PM you directly.
5. Providing explanations when action is takenIf a topic is closed or points are given, the mod will explain as best as possible why action was taken. However if it is blatantly obvious to a “reasonable person” then an explanation will most likely not be given. For example, do you really need an explanation why a post that has something like "OMFG I LIKE CAUGHT THIS MEWTWO AND THEN I TRADED MY CARD FOR A HOLO AND I ROXORS UR YOUR TEAMS SUXORS LULZ" needs an infraction?
6. New membersNew members are granted no leeway on punishments. It’s every member’s responsibility to be at least familiar with the rules.
7. Contesting to an issued infractionIf you want to contest an infraction, you may (in a civilized manner). First bring the issue up to the moderator that gave you the points. If nothing is done about it and you still want to contest, bring it up to another moderator or another member of the administration.
