More themes would be a nice feature to be honest, and a very good idea.

i think the guy who did the themes back in the day is long gone now.

Honestly it's not. Why would a moderator risk their status just to edit other peoples' posts to say problematic things? Who on the staff is petty enough to do something like that?
Who do you think you are to decide it "isn't valid"? I don't know the mods personally, and if there's an edit I didn't make, it's perfectly reasonable to think it was likely done by the people who have the ability to make edits. The fact that you're continuing on this point after I acknowledged it could be a hacker too comes across like you're trying to pick a pointless argument with me cause you want likes from staff. Cut it out, there's no reason to start a debate about this. I don't want to deal with you.

also just a few years ago there was an extremely problematic and bigoted mod that nobody was doing anything about until i gave people **** about it FYI, why is it so ridiculous that i didn't just default assume it's a hacker when we're not under attack at the moment?
This was your shot at us. This is what I'm in defense mode about, and I have every right to be. This is an open shot at anyone that's a mod on here. If you're going to take shots like that expect to be called out. You call me condescending, but I've been doing my part to figure out the situation behind closed doors. That's a pretty ignorant statement if you ask me.

Myself, and none of these other mods are editing your statuses let alone anyone else's. The only way we would is if it was rule breaking. Also, we're not going to dig out old posts from back in December and edit those. Speaking for myself I have a life. I'm not going to wake up one day and be like "I'm going to dig up posts on Keepitsimples profile and edit them" dating all the way back to December. I can generally tell you that I don't give a crap about what you posted back in December, or what you posted for that matter.

Myself, and no one else on the team is going to dig up old bones for no reason. It's incredibly time consuming. I would bet more money on it being a hacker at this point. Blaming 3 or 4 active mods just seems like the easy thing to do in my opinion.
this can be answered with the same thing i posted earlier:
i already acknowledged it could be a hacker too what are you going off about.
You call me condescending, but I've been doing my part to figure out the situation behind closed doors. That's a pretty ignorant statement if you ask me.
Sorry for not reading your mind and instead going by what i could see, the stuff posted in the thread, which was all "why are you blaming the mods" and no one said a simple "we're looking into it" which was demoralizing. appreciate the help though. I'd have apologized for the first comment by now, but I'm pretty annoyed that you decided to escalate things over it, so if I did it wouldn't be sincere.

1. I quoted ToeyJoey in the reply that you're quoting, so I don't know why you're acting as if I was heckling you. But if that's how you want to play, fine.

2. You've been complaining about people editing your status comments since January and you've been subtly shifting blame to Hunter Zolomon. If it's really as bad as you say then you should've just either deleted the comments yourself, or reported the edited comments individually and/or contacted a mod in private while telling them that someone edited your content so that they'd know about the situation and possibly check if your account was hacked instead of you coming here and making a big deal about it publicly. So don't act bothered now when you're the one who opened this can of worms yourself.

3. With the exception of this week I only post a few times every 2 months, so if you think I care about Likes then perhaps you're confusing me with someone else. I'm not the one who posts in the Count to 60 game for Likes and approval on a daily basis or making "funny" status comments for attention.

Changing the subject here: Are we ever going to get new and different themes for the forums ever again? Because I really don’t like the Happy theme very much but it’s better than the default because there are no ad blocks in the middle of the page that could potentially lead users to a site that is harmful if they accidentally click on them. I miss the old version of the forums where we had several viewing options.
Not to be rude to anyone who does want this but is there even much demand? Most users seem to like the dark mode theme that's available and I think having a choice between that or the "Happy Style" is fine for now isn't it?

There is something I've always wanted to ask from the staff, will there ever be an option to have animated gifs as avatars?

@Flashyspark I actually think most of us were fine with the Dark mode until the site decided to use ads to help pay for the costs running both the forums and main sites. Ever since then some of us have run into some issues with these blocks. For awhile I couldn’t use the main site because my browser kept crashing and the only thing I could think of that could have been the problem were the ads as I was perfectly fine before the ads were being used. Someone mentioned one of the ads leading to a potentially dangerous site and Joe has no real control over what ads we are shown. The Dark mode uses the ads which can lead to more problems for some user due to there being no control over what they show us. The ads also makes the site load much slower than the only other theme we’ve got know. Since then others have said that they want more themes again.

Yea some of the ads also slow the site down to a crawl. Ran into this issue on other sites as well.

It would be cool to get old themes back I won't even lie lol.

Also, for future reference, let's do our best to keep things clean in here and not get in heated discussions. I shouldn't have flew off the handle. I wasn't wrong to defend myself, but as a Mod I wasn't setting the best example by going off publicly.

This whole thing about statuses being edited should have been handled in Dms and not publicly. All it did was create hostility in this thread. We don't need any of that. This forum is supposed to be a happy place for everyone.

I get defensive pretty easily over things that I truly feel wronged over, but that's just how it is for me a lot of times. That's a "me" problem, though. That's no one else's problem here.

I really do care about this forum and have made great friendships here. I'm not going to throw that all away because of some hacker that keeps coming here to disturb the peace and edit statuses.

We all really need to stick together on issues instead of being divided. Hopefully everyone has a good weekend.

Sorry if this has already been mentioned, but the "Rules" link on the main forum index doesn't work. It links to this which just gives the error "The requested thread could not be found."

A hacker broke in some months ago and hard deleted it.

There is a working copy close by tho.

Since the FAQ is offline, I will ask here: when are the changes in usernames happening?
Original post says twice per year, but the link for it is also offline. I think (unsure) it's been over 6 months I requested a change.
Probably never. The name change threads haven't been made in like 4 or 5 years and the automatic name change feature in the account details page doesn't work.

I reached out to Hydrohs in September 2020 to ask about this (and offered to help create them) and was told "we are working on it."

So. Don't get your hopes up.

edit: also. Joe was included on that message, but never replied. Reached out on Discord (as per Hunter Zolomon's advice) and after about 2 months of trying to get ahold of Joe he said that he would "give it some thought." That was May 2023. So again, don't get any hopes up.

I'm sorry guys I really am. I just wish I had access to more things especially username changes. I would go through them all and just do them myself.

Sadly, there's really nothing I can do at this point. As Manchee said things have been mentioned to other Staff. Not to mention others have been asking and bringing these things up for months and years.

Sorry guys...

One of the biggest complaints I have about the server is that it's a lot more hassle to just to get to the latest page of a thread than simply click a page button like on the forums of old.

I get that I'm complaining about an extra click or two but it's still far more unintuiative than what it should be, in my opinion.

Not really a suggestion rather a question, but I thought it was forum policy not to delete accounts unless they're spambots? I ask because I noticed that Erik Destler's old account was deleted sometime in the past year. He probably asked for it to happen, but if so why was his request granted yet the dozens of other similar requests from other users over the years to have their accounts wiped were denied?

I feel it's time we've amended the Bumping Rules, particularly for forums in the General section.

These forums do not see very much traffic, compared to other sections, and what little traffic they do see is often shut down by moderators due to the rule that prohibits the bumping of threads that have went inactive for over 60 days. Given how often it occurs, this is clearly something worth reviewing.

If users, especially new users, are finding interest in older threads, then perhaps the revival of those threads should be considered. At the very least, I suggest amending the limit from 60 Days to Six Months. This allows a reasonable amount of time for threads that were once quite active to be revisited by both new and current users.

EDIT: I recently discovered that due to the current bumping limit, the entire BDSP forum is now dead. Even if users wanted to return to the forum, they couldn't. They'd have to recreate all of the threads that expired, even though those threads are still there. I think an amendment is needed now more than ever.

I agree with you there. It's time for that to be updated.
