Pokémon HeartGold & SoulSilver - Miscellaneous Names

Finally, we have the names and details for a variety of other aspects of the game including some new locations and features. Again, out of respect for those of you willing to be surprised, I've hidden them in our usual hidden box. Click the button to access the details.

First, the most notable aspect to note is the change of the name of the Pokéthlon (ポケスロン). Its US name is incredibly similar with the name Pokéathlon, which matches the full intent of the name being a portémanteau of Pokémon and Triathlon. Also, of note, the Technique stat in the Pokéathlon is called Skill in the US versions. In addition to this the Apricorn Shaker, used to help boost your Pokéathlon stats, creates Aprijuice.Next, are location based details. First, the Shinto Ruins (シントいせき) have been renamed in the US version to Sinjoh Ruins, keeping the original intention of the combination of the Sinnoh and Johto regions. Inside, the stage is called the Mystri Stage as opposed to the Triad Stage. It's also worth noting that you can do this event twice, once with the Arceus given away at Toys R Us last year, and once with a Hall of Origin Arceus, should one ever be given.
The Hidden Tower (うずもれのとう) in Route 47, where Groudon, Kyogre & Rayquaza dwell is now known as the Embedded Tower.

Finally, the final bit of information is in regards to the Game Corner. The Game Corner has changed in all regions outside of Japan. Instead of the slot machines, they have added a minigame called Voltorb Flip. This game is reminiscent of games such as minesweeper where you have to flip tiles and you get a variety of bonuses of multipliers (x1, x2 & x3). However, in addition to that, you may also find Voltorbs which are placed randomly in each set. You get shown how many Voltorbs are in each row and column and your task is to get the multipliers and not hit any Voltorb tiles. As you progress without hitting Voltorbs, the levels get harder, more Voltorb tiles appear and the higher coin multipliers become more abundant. If you keep hitting Voltorbs, you will end up back at the bottom level.

I've got no comments about the Rockets' names. I just hate them (Arianna is the only one that I can stand).

So, Janine is Janine, not "Charine", right?

I was frozen today!
I predict a ****storm of epic proportions once word gets around that they took the slot machines out of the American version too. Personally, I don't care, but this fanbase just loves to overreact.

I can't help but notice that they missed the runner of all the Rocket officials being named after real-life space programs. Oh well, at least now we won't have the confusing conflict of there being two main characters named Lance.

Pardon my Skepticism, but where exactly did you get these names from? The games don't come out for like another 6 weeks yet. Did somebody break into Nintendo and steal a coopy of the game or something? Maybe i'd be more convinced if the news post wasn't showing Japanese screenshots.

Check the history of the site. I have, on many many occassions, received details early

Also, to those complaining about the name changes, you have no reason to complain.

All of the English names keep the meanings behind the Japanese ones.

The slots? Taken out and replaced with an arcade machine? Not just Europe, but in America as well?!

To be fair, the original Team Rocket names sound cooler, and they're not Japanese names, so it's not like there was a culture gap or anything. Also, I was lookin' forward to playing the slot machines.

But I'm not gonna throw a hissy fit about it either. The game's still gonna be plenty of fun to me, whether I'm challenging Apollo or Archer.

Bummer... :( I loved playing the slots in the old games :p. It was hard trying to win at them...

RIP to them as well... you will be missed.

To be honest, I dislike the change in the Rocket Executive's names.
At least the Japanese version has their name actually taken from something.
Is the US name also taken from something? Looks too random to me.

also, -_- at the quite generic male Trainer name.
Lyra is not a generic name for girls, can't they give the same thing for the male Trainer?

Also, Joe, do you know what word for "Executive" will be used?

Admin? Commander? Simply Executive (as in Gen II)? Or something else?

The news piece suggests that it's "Executive" but I want to make sure.

That was the only name that really disappointed me. I was hoping they would use the same name for him as they did for his anime counterpart in pokemon chronicles (jimmy), but I know one person who will be happy about this at least xD. I was expecting something different for Kotone, but I'm fine with Lyra as her English Name. I do wish they had used the same names as the japanese version for the rockets though , but they're not bad names. Thanks for updating us on everything Joe

I like the Rocket Executives names EXCEPT Proton. The other I liked. I was also disappointed with the name Ethan. Other than all that, everything is good. Thanks for the update =)

Honestly, all the new names make me go blargh .-.

Why, why the slots machine replaced again? I'm so happy I played the Japanese version as well...

But, I like the concept of Voltorb Minesweeper.

And I think that Ethan suits Gold more that "DAN HIBIKI". Ethan's JP name is the Street Fighter series' own, Dan Hibiki's last name.

Can you name the counterpart person or is it set to Lyra (Playing as Ethan)?
