Yeah, Kangaroos are more long distance jumpers. While they can leap the lenth of a school bus, they don't normally jump very high.
@GreatGuy: While plausible, I don't think there is enough oxygen in our atmosphere to support such a large insect. The biggest insect to ever live was meganuera, a dragonfly with a three-foot wingspan. That was in the Carboniferous period, about 300 mya. Oxygen levels then were much higher.
@VampirateMace: well, we've discussed thylacosimilus, gorgonopsids, alien kangaroo's, terrestrial predatory bats, giant fleas, and I think there was a doctor who reference in there. I'd say we have almost all the bases covered.
I like the crab idea. Maybe it could be a carnivorous relative of the coconut crab, which is a huge land crab. Their width is about that of a car tire.
