Serebii Yuletide: Fan Fics Hub (Info and Discussion)

Finally sent mine in. It took a ton of work, but I'm extremely happy with how it turned out. I hope my reader, and later everyone else, likes it.

Aaaaand got it, Phalanx! :D

Just uploaded mine as well, which means we just have five more fics left to go! Good luck to those of you with assignments still out! You'll be receiving a short, private check-in request shortly~!

For those of you who do have assignments in, idk why I wrote in the FFQ that story reveals happen on Christmas Eve, but they do not. They happen on Christmas Day. Sorry about that. D: In any case, everyone's been awesome so far, so definitely take a breather, grab some hot cocoa, and keep an eye on this thread for the tree to go up Christmas morning!

Just got both of mine in with literally minutes to spare! I hope my recipients like their gifts, and I'm sorry for the last minute turn-ins. Life happened, but I did my best to make it work!

Haha, sorry for the confusion, guys. For some reason, the date was left off the messages I'd sent, but yes, the fics are actually due by 11:59 pm today and not yesterday. Sorry for making you panic, Ginger (and one other person who pointed this out)!

In any case, we received your fics A-OK.

By the by, I've gotten a question about whether or not your Yuletide fics will be eligible for this year's fic awards, and if you folks are wondering but haven't asked, I defer you to this post. Long story short, if you post your fic within 2015, sure, but if you post in 2016, unfortunately, probably not due to tech issues. Sorry. :(

Well, against all odds, I've finally managed finished mine up and sent it in.

This actually gave me far more trouble than I anticipated, but I somehow managed to plough through all the bumps and actually produce a complete and coherent (I hope) piece of writing. Really appreciate the extended writing period we got compared to last year's event too, probably wouldn't have been able to finish if I didn't have that on my side. I just really hope that at the end of it all, I won't have let my recipient down and that they'll actually enjoy reading it. Fingers crossed!

I sent mine in last night, after reaching my vacation destination. I'm significantly happier with it now than I was yesterday, though I had a lot more ideas for it that I never got to implement, so I may continue working on it later. :)

Can't wait for the reveals!

Aww yeah. That means everyone's fics are in! It's Christmas Eve, so I'd just like to extend a huge effing thank you to everyone who participated. Even if you had to drop out, just signing up means a lot. We've had more sign-ups than last year and certainly fewer drop-outs, so all in all, it looks pretty promising for an annual event (as in, because so many people enjoyed and supported doing this, there will doubtless be a year three unless something weird happens between now and next year—idk).

Also, I'd like to thank my fellow mods for helping out. Thanks to Psychic for all your help in getting the event up and running, and xEryChan? You did a lot of amazing work behind the scenes (and in front of it on the Shipping Fics side), and doing all of this would have been a crapload harder without you.

To everyone, we've got less than a day before the tree goes up, so please take this time to rest, to relax, and to enjoy your Christmas Eve with your friends and family. Thank you again for an amazing year, and I'll be seeing all of you in the morning!

^ By everyone, do you mean everyone who signed up wrote a fic, even the AWOL people? Or do you just mean that everyone who signed up will receive a fic tomorrow morning?

Either way, I'm glad that this year's Yuletide went a lot better than last year's. Merry Christmas to everyone. :)

Yep, everyone who signed up will receive a fic. Hard to submit a fic if you've dropped out, after all. :p

(And on a side note, this is pretty much what we strive for, which means we're awesome as always this year. Because it'd suck if someone dropped out at the last second. We have that bit about what to do if that actually happens, sure, but it's not really something I'd like to have happen because the last thing I'd like is for someone to be disappointed on Christmas, y'know? Ultimately, the Yuletide is about giving to your fellow Serebii member because it's just plain neat to make someone else's day, so I am kinda nervous about the possibility of having to use that emergency backup plan. Let's make sure it never happens in future Yuletides, folks!)

I'm going to sound like a crazily over-excited little kid, but when will the Yuletide Tree go up? Will it be midnight, December 25, EST? (That's the timezone I'm in now that I'm on vacation.) Just asking so I can figure out whether to stay up. XD

Haha, true story: I tend to torture myself people with it by going by midnight, Hawaiian time because by that point, it will be Christmas for everyone. (❀◕ ‿ ◕)

Or, in other words, 5 am EST. Assuming I wake up in time to do it. If not, I am so sorry, Australians.

I'm so glad it all worked out! I think I can speak for all of us when I say we all owe you a huge thank you, Jax! You really pulled this thing together yourself for the most part, and you are basically the Santa Clause who made sure all us little elves did our part. I'm glad I could have done a small bit to help, but without you there would be no fics under the Christmas tree. THANK YOU!

I, too, am incredibly excited about tomorrow morning, and am curious to know if you have any time in mind for that to go up. :)

Edit: welp, that answers that! That's not too far away!

The Great Yuletide Tree
christmastree.jpg

Merry Christmas, Serebiites! If you're reading this, you're more than likely an author who participated in our second annual Serebii Yuletide. If so, congratulations for making it through the Yuletide festivities, and thank you for all your hard work! If you're not a Yuletide author, welcome to the story reveals! We hope you consider these as much a gift to you as they are to our fellow authors. It's been an exciting to-do from the get-go, and all of the fics that were sent in represent the best that each author has to offer. So whether you're a recipient or someone simply passing through, we hope that our stories brighten up your holidays!

IMPORTANT NOTE: How to Read and Participate in the Great Yuletide Tree
The Yuletide tree isn't too straightforward if you're not super-familiar with LJ-style Yuletides in general. But to give you a quick summary, below is the link to the folder, followed by a list of stories. The names you see are not the names of the people who wrote those fics. They are, instead, who the fic goes to.

Here's the fun part.

[spoil]As of right now, you don't know who wrote which fic. You'll know in what's called the "author reveal," which will happen tomorrow, December 26, at a random time. Why don't you know right away? Because that's the surprise, silly bean! Guessing is not mandatory, and authors are encouraged not to reveal themselves until author reveals go up. But you're certainly free to speculate on who wrote your fic in either the Shipping or Fan hub.

Other than that little detail, the rest is a bit easier.

Each fic has a summary and set of warnings and whatnot. You can browse the spoiler tag to find your name and glean some cursory info from that, or you can read through the list of fics, find one that interests you, and keep the name of the recipient in mind.

The folder, meanwhile, is set to allow virtually anyone with the link (read: all of you) to access it. Each fic has been named after its recipient. If you're to receive a fic, finding yours is as simple as looking for your name on the list. If, however, you're a passerby, match the name of the recipient of the fic that you want to read to the filename inside the folder, and BAM! You have fic!

Additionally, each fic has been set to allow anyone who can access it to leave comments, regardless of whether or not you have a Google account. To leave a comment, highlight the part of the fic you want to comment on and then hit Command+Option+M (on a Mac) or Ctrl+Alt+M (on Windows). Leaving comments is perfectly optional (especially given that authors are encouraged to post their fics in the forum proper after author reveals as a means of archiving their work), but if you're a recipient, it's always good form to leave at least a short note telling your author what you thought.

If you'd prefer not to post your comments on the fic itself, feel free to leave them in this thread. Also, don't hesitate to ask if any of this sounds confusing or if you can't access the folder/fics within it![/spoil]

That said, on with the show~!

Couldn't have said it better myself! Thank you so, so so so so much Jax and the others who put this together! This was so much fun and I really look forward to next year's Yuletide!

I also just read my fic, and I have to say that it was absolutely stupendously perfect in every way. My writer even chose the harder (or at least the more specific) of the two prompts! I have a feeling of who it might be, due to the layout and format, but I'll wait till tomorrow for confirmation ;) Thank you so very much for making my Christmas morning all the more wonderful, and I wish all the others a very happy Christmas as well!

I'm so glad I could help. I honestly had a blast this time around and I'm definitely looking forward to next year's Yuletide.

I just finished reading my fic and I'm very pleased with it. Definitely very well written and it's so cute as well. Big thank you to the person who wrote it, you did such a great job. I really love it.

Merry Christmas, everyone :D

"It is my destiny."
The fic I got was cute, I smiled while I was reading it (was the ending supposed to be that sudden, though? Kind of felt a little incomplete, but I dunno). I have a good idea who wrote it, but I'll wait until tomorrow for the reveal while I go back through the list of participants to make sure.

The Teller

King of Half-Truths
Thanks for the story, mysterious do-gooder! I'll admit, I completely forgot what I wrote down for prompts, characters, etc. By the end, I thought the message was "what would it REALLY be like to be a regional Champion?". Then I read the summary on the main page. Whoops. That makes more sense. I really liked it though, so thanks!

And who comes to an implicitly-Christmas/wintery themed challenge and thinks "football"?

Just finished reading mine as well, and it brought a smile to my face. Loved it from beginning to end.

I think I know who wrote mine, but I'll wait until tomorrow too~

Many thanks to the mystery person who wrote my fic - out of all the prompts I wrote, that one in particular was actually one of the ones I hoped most would be fulfilled. The fic itself pretty much exactly what I was hoping it would be - also props for managing to sneak in the Magma/Aqua Christmas single, very nice little surprise there as well. All in all, a great present. Thanks again, and merry Christmas.

Gone. Not coming back.
My thanks to the person who wrote my story, and happy holidays! I love what you did with the prompt; there were a few ways I thought it might go, but I wasn't expecting something like that! You really picked up on my predilection for stories whose ideas connect themselves up to some mythic paradigm or other. And anyway, I always like a story in which the real power is the power of love and friendship, however corny that might be. (And, well, this is a good time of year for corniness.) This, however, wasn't particularly corny (have I said that too many times? I feel like I've said that too many times. Never mind. No turning back), and it still carried that off, so thank you! It was such a nice gift.
