Serebii Yuletide: Fan Fics Hub (Info and Discussion)

All the merry Christmases and all the cakes to the person who got me as their recipient - that was an amazing read! Not only did you make Wally even more impossibly adorable than he already is, but you even pulled off what is, imo, one of the most difficult kinds of writing - describing food and taste. Seriously, your description was spot-on and it really took center stage in the fic. And the way you construct dialogue puts my own project to shame. :p Unlike the others, I can't pinpoint who you are right now (though I have a couple of ideas), but whoever you are, thank you so much! :)

YEAHHHHHHH
To the person that got my prompts and wrote the Aarune fic, I really love it! I like how Aarune's start is when he discovers that little hidden park and then he finds out about the hidden grottos before the secret bases. Irwin is pretty fun, too. Thanks so much!

Really and truly
Merry Christmas, everyone, and thank you to my gift-giver! I so did not expect anyone to choose that prompt, since so few people know about/seem interested in Orre! I quite enjoyed the story of Rogan and Dart and their fateful late-night encounter, and man was I not ready for that ending. Oof. I almost feel like there's more to the story - I'm so darn curious to know what Rogan went on to do at ONBS, and what happened to that Sandslash - where was it's trainer, what was it doing in the trash, where did it go after? If you ever wrote an epilogue I would be all over it, just saying!

Thank you a ton for the fic! I really couldn't even guess at who you are - I had one person in mind who recently wrote a fic about Shadow Pokemon, but your style is definitely different from them (which means there are TWO members here who wrote about Shadow Pokemon, which makes me so darn happy). Can't wait to find out who you are!

Thank you kindly to the person who wrote my fic! It's a little sappy, sure, but hey, it's the holidays. I'm looking forward to figuring out who my mystery writer is.

(was the ending supposed to be that sudden, though? Kind of felt a little incomplete, but I dunno).

Haha, that was probably my fault. orz Your author received a head's up about the deadline, but in doing so, I accidentally left off the date on each message I'd sent out. Consequently, your author thought they had minutes to finish the fic, rather than a full extra day, which resulted in them not quite finishing it to their liking. I've talked to them about it, and they'd like a chance to fix it up before posting it to the forum if that would be cool with you.

And who comes to an implicitly-Christmas/wintery themed challenge and thinks "football"?

Amazing people, that's who. (I read this person's other prompts—and yes, football was literally on the list—and all of them were incredible. Please, dear God, submit your prompts to this thread after the event. Or write them. Whichever.)

Actually, come to think of it, I highly encourage folks who want to release their prompts somewhere to abuse this thread to their heart's content. Just sayin'.

In the meantime, a comment about the fic I'd received! Gooooood lawdy, thank you to the person whose identity I totally didn't know because I totally didn't accidentally cheat while uploading fics. (Yeah. Nailed it.) No, but for real, honest moment here, I was fangirling 100% through the entire fic. You nailed Sycamore's character completely, and even the part where he was flipping out over [heeeeey, is it wrong to spoil a game that's been out for two years?] seemed completely in character. But my favorite moment has to be all the lovely bits surrounding the part where Lysandre kisses Sycamore's hand. Like, all that warmth and that bit where Sycamore touches the spot after Lysandre leaves and guh.

Tl;dr, absolutely melted. Thank you, author!

And now I'm rooting for Sycamore to figure out how Mega Evolution works because aww yeah.

(Poor Lysandre, though. Best of luck to him on his journey, wherever he may go~!)

*blushes* Why thank you, Jax. I was that weird football fan. :D The Teller, you'd understand if you've let football/soccer (I use those two terms interchangeably, bear with me) take over your life. It's the most popular sport in the world for a reason. :p

I'm going to make more comments on my present on the Google Doc and during the Author Reveals, but IS SILVER SERGIO RAMOS? Attractive, passionate defender who fouls a lot and is kind of a jerk? XD

I just realized that people who don't follow football have no idea what I'm talking about. DX

Anyways, to whoever wrote my present, thanks a billion, or, as they like to say in my favorite soccer club, gracies. The only orphaned prompt this year happened to be mine, and I thank you tremendously for picking it up and tackling it. I love the way you incorporated so many of my favorite things into an entertaining story.

I've already narrowed my writer down to two people. Can't wait until tomorrow!

Merry Christmas to everyone! :D

So late to this, read my fic this morning and thought it was great. I actually had to go back and look at my prompt because I'd forgotten it, and I nearly submitted a quote that was about the WWI Christmas Truce and I was so sure that was the prompt my writer was working off. Then I saw the actual one I gave and... well, thanks for making something out of what was a really really vague and open ended prompt. I got a very All the Light We Cannot See vibe... if in aforementioned book the character who was nominally a Nazi wasn't a total wuss. If that was the goal/germination of the idea, very clever slipping in the nod to the radio repair shop.

If that wasn't the case... then you are a very clever and intuitive writer, you.

Ah, I see. Well of course they can fix it up if they want, I don't see why they can't if they wanted to post it on the forum.

Oooh maybe I could go ahead and visit the plot-bunny farm and lay out the prompts that weren't used, since I can't seem to think of scenarios for my own prompts lol.

The Great Yuletide Tree
... Revealed!

Below is a listing of all our Yuletide stories with their authors added. All authors may now post their stories in the appropriate forum (meaning shipping fics go to Shipping Fics, while gen fics go to Fan Fiction). We’d like to thank you again for a great Yuletide, guys! It’s because of you that this year was a pretty good success.

Before you go (and before the listing), we’d like to invite you to leave comments on how we did this time around so that we may improve the way it might run in 2016. Of course, we’ve thought of some stuff on our end, so feel free to comment on our comments as well. In particular, we’re planning on making the following changes:

Yes, we’re keeping dates straight this time. (Sorry about failing hardcore at that! D: )
Submission directions will also be included in the main post, not just the PMed assignments.
We’re also including notes that, yeah, you can totally get your fic illustrated if you have time and a handy artist friend. (We’re not sure if we’ll open Yuletide up for art gifts due to the inactivity of the art side of Serebii, but feel free to talk about it anyway!)
Maaaaybe a note concerning the awards, as that seems to be a concern some folks have with regards to the Yuletide, given that the eligibility period ends five days after reveals, and, um, this is a gift-giving event, so...

Huge thank-you to American--Pi and GingerDixie for serving as this year’s pinch-hitters! Without your hard work, we’d be short two fics, so awesome hussle, guys! Thanks also to all of our pinch-hitting volunteers, even those of you who haven’t snapped up fics. :D Pinch-hitters do wonders to ensure that the event goes smoothly, so you guys rock.

Without further ado, the writer list of Yuletide 2015!

Thank you!

I had a lot of fun writing my fic for Pikabones, I enjoyed the prompt because how how open it was. Also had fun reading some of the other fics before the big reveal, I hope later on I get a chance to read all the rest. I also love the one that Americian-Pi wrote for me, very unpredictable and a lovely twist on Clair's character. It's the kind of fic that I love reading.

Thank you so much, GingerDixie! And to Bay, I'm so happy you liked your fic! When you mentioned Aarune being from Unova I remembered all of the places I discovered while playing those games, and thought it really fit! I had so many other ideas I wish I'd had time to implement, haha.

Ice also been reading some of the other Fuchs and have really enjoyed them, including the disc for Jax and Cutlerine! Awesome jobs, everyone! This event was really a blast. :)

Edit: aaaand that is why I never type on my phone! Thanks for the above, autocorrect!

And anyways, nobody said it had to be Christmas related :p And you're very welcomed American-Pi, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I knew it was Ginger :D! Awww, thanks a lot, it really is a cute read, and so I do look forward to seeing what fixes you'll make on it. Make it your very own and very Ginger-esque. *smush-hugs*

Also, thanks for taking over for Starlight Aurate's prompt, Dramatic Melody. Sorry I couldn't get out a story for you, Starlight, I do feel bad for not being able to get through it. I had gotten stuck on your Snorunt and other Ice-types prompt (it had to have a happy end, but I didn't know how to make an old, cranky Cryogonal work out with the kids that had taken issue with him--sucks, too, I'd have liked to write about a Cryogonal), and then even after asking a couple of people not in the Yuletide for ideas, I couldn't figure out how to make the pair of Mightyena prompt work out (even though that apparently didn't need a happy ending like the other one). Then on top of all that came other things life threw my way, and I was getting stressed about it. You being the first to pat me on the back when I threw in the towel made me feel even more guilty about it, lol, I just couldn't say anything about it. So... yeah. That was what happened on my end. But at least you were able to get something.

Aw, thank you so much! I'm really happy that you enjoyed it; it was the first time that I ever tried writing a shipping fic, so if it came off as awkward, that was my bad XD I also accidentally left a bit of my actual current fic at the end; I had put it on because I just wanted to use it to set the format, and ultimately forgot to erase it DX Sorry... glad to hear you liked it though! No, don't feel bad about trying to cheer me up when you didn't know I had your prompt. That's just how it happened. As of the chances of me actually finishing it, I'm afraid that's come and gone at this point. I might try again as something else, but it wouldn't be for the same purpose.

This confuses me--a lot. It took me a few days-or-so longer to get my assignment, but if the same prompt was given out twice... huh? I guess it's a good thing it worked out the way it did, otherwise it sounds like Starlight would've gotten two prompts.

Basically, yes. Apparently, there was miscommunication between the mods divvying up the assignments, and long story short, you wound up getting skipped. (Sorry!) It's one of the reasons why I'm considering going with a single-mod assignment system next year (or at least encouraging it if I'm not the one running things). However, there are downsides to this, including the more obvious "the mod will know who wrote for them" and the less obvious "the list is split up in a way that the mods handled the members with the writing styles and preferences they'd know the best." With the latter, for example, I'd know the gen writers' preferences, so I largely handled those, whereas xEryChan handled largely shippers. There were a few others mixed in, of course, so that it would actually be a cross-forum event (i.e., so that it wasn't just that shippers wrote for shippers), but that's basically how it was supposed to go. Last year, it worked in a pretty similar manner too. It was just that Psychic and I interact with/lurk in both forums pretty much equally, so we split them up based purely on who had ideas for matches.

The alternative to the single-mod system would be, of course, to separate members out in a clearer manner on our spreadsheet. The main problem is that you were listed in between a few members I'd handled (the chart went alphabetically, so you can probably figure out which members I was meant to handle), but if the mods' assignments were split up into two lists right on the spreadsheet, that would probably solve some of the problem right there. (We don't list assignments on the master spreadsheet, for those curious. Mods just kinda keep track of that in their own way in private. This helps to maintain that level of secrecy right up to the uploading part of things.)

In short, yes, Starlight was going to have two stories written for her, and another member was going to write two stories to cover you. However, because you'd dropped out at the end, it worked out with everyone just getting one fic each. That's why there was no call for pinch-hitters at the very end (except for American--Pi's prompt, which was reclaimed by PikaBones ... which, uh, is another story that is also probably a point of discussion for later): because the prompt we gave you was already going to be covered.

Poetry: Thank you so much for the awesome fic! It's the first Wally fic I've read in years and it was so freaking good. I really hope you post it on the forum so that more people can see it! :)

Haha, I'm so glad you like it - honestly towards the end as the deadline was approaching, I was panicking a little trying to bring everything together since the material I had at the time was quite bare-bones and very un-cohesive, but I'm really glad that you're pleased with the finished result. I have to say thanks as well for making it easy for me in terms of the prompts you provided; I actually breathed a little sigh of relief when I saw them because they were all exactly the kind of things I love to write (I was actually half considering calling the fic "Slice of Cake" as in "slice of life" but thought it was too broad of a reference to really work in the end).

Also of course, thanks to Delirious Absol for your fantastic fic - I can't even say with honesty when I last read an Elesa-centric fic (why exactly I have no idea - this should be fixed!) but you nailed it in the end.

Finally, thanks to all the organisers for making this year's such a success - I'm really glad myself that I managed to get off my arse for once and actually write something as well - and y'know what, I had a hell of a good time doing it, too. Already looking forward to next year's. Happy new year, everyone.

Glad you really enjoyed it! Haha the part with Sycamore's outburst my beta also liked it. I was thinking how some folks criticized the way Sycamore's reaction was when he was talking to the player is numb/dulled and that reason for that is probably he's been bottling up his feelings for a while. Also glad to hear you like the kissing hand part! That was one of my favorite parts to write haha.

Again, thanks! When Aarune said about being from Unova in ORAS, I got interested in more of his backstory. Pretty cool you still remember those places from Unova! I can understand the time constraints due to holidays and other real life stuff.
