Serebii's Pokémon Sword & Shield Discovery Thread

The new game, Pokémon Sword & Shield, are out this week and as usual we will be covering the game in full as soon as we can.

Although it seems that practically everything was revealed before launch through leaks and other such methods, this thread will have all the minor things I discover as playing through the game, which may not necessarily warrant posting directly on the site, though keep an eye there too as sections will be updated.

It is live and we are beginning!

Just to note, I'm not going to do blow-by-blow here as it will take all of my time. I will be posting in bulk every so often

Starts showing off Exhibition Match with Leon and RaihanGoes to your house and Hop comes to visit and wants you to come over. When you leave you see a Wooloo attacking a fence. You then have to go meet Leon at Wedgehurts station where Leon is. He then returns home and offers you and Hop your Starters. You pick one, Hop picks the one weak to you and Leon takes the other. After a barbecue, you battle Hop who already has a Woolo and his starter.

When you go to get your Pokédex, the Wooloo has broken into the forbidden Slumbering Weald and you have to go save it. When you get in you're attacked by a Zacian/Zamazenta which challenges you. The moves have no effect on it. It causes more fog to appear to the point you can't see. Leon then appears to get you and you find the Wooloo and return to town. Then you need to head to Wedgehurst to the Research Lab

Also to clarify, so that I can get through the game quicker than normal, I turn the Battle Animations off and text speed to fast

In the lab you meet Soniaand get the Pokédex and when you reach Route 2, you'll get taught how to catch Pokémon and get given Poké Balls in order to do so

When catching a Pokémon, you sometimes get "W" if a Pokémon hasan aura. It also has Egg Moves

You have the Fishing Rod immediately

When you get to Magnolia's, you have to battle Hop to get an endorsement into the Gym Challenge from Leon. When you do, a Wishing Star will also come down for you which Magnolia turns into a Dynamax Band the next day.

Then, you go to the Wild Area. In the train station you can receive Gigantamax capable Pikachu and Eevee if you have played Let's Go

Sonia arrives to learn of the Legendary Pokémon you met, but then you set off in the Wild Area towards Motostoke. She gives you the Pokémon Box Link which lets you access your boxes nearly anywhere

When you get to Motostoke, Sonia meets you and gives you access to League Cards and Leon gives you an item for your starter. Go to the Stadium to meet Hop for the opening ceremony and to register. Both Bede and Marnie are here.

You then have to check into the Inn for the night where you first encounter Team Yell who challenge you. Eventually hop joins in.
Defeat them and Marnie joins in apologising for Team Yell

Return to the stadium for the opening ceremony by Rose and Oleana where the gym leaders appear and are introduced. After the opening ceremony, Leon introduces you to Rose. Afterwards, you get given access to Flying Taxis to fly to each area.

Head west towards Route 3 and Hop will wish to battle you. Defeat him for his League Card

You then have to go through Galar Mine. At the end of which you find Bede who insists he's better because Rose sponsored him. He leaves and says he'll beat you next tiome as he found a Wishing Star

Get to the end of route 4 and a Wooloo runs into you and you meet Milo. Then when you get into Turffield you meet Hop who says the gym is packed and Sonia was looking for us. She'll talk about the hill painting and give Milo's League Card

Turrfield Gym's mission has you herding Wooloo while avoiding Yamper and battling trainers. Complete that and you'll face Milo. Defeat him and you can now catch Pokémon up to Level 25 and get TM10 and the Grass Uniform. They say to head to Hulbury

End of Route 5 you find Team Yell wanting someone to give them a bike. Beat them and you receive the Rotom Bike.

Further along the route you encounter and battle Hop.

When you reach Hulbury, you see Rose, Bede and Oleana. Rose wants to support the fans but Oleana sends them away. Rose wants to hold a celebration if you beat Nessa.

In the east of town you'll find Nessa and she'll give you her League card and head to the gym

Nessa's gym has you go through a variety of areas altering pipes downpour of water to get through to the end. Then, you battle Nessa. Defeat her for the Water Badge which lets you catch Pokémon up to Lv. 30, TM36 and the Water Uniform

Exit and you'll see Oleana who tells you to go see Rose and gives you Rose's League Card. Rose and Sonia then are at the restaurant and discuss Dynamax with Rose suggesting Sonia go and check out a vault for finding the key to Dynamaxing.

Exit the restaurant and you'll meet Hop and need to go back to Motostoke but have to find the Gym Leader Kabu in Galar Mine No. 2 beyond te city

Go into Galar Mine 2 and you meet Bede who challenges you to a battle. Defeat him and he'll give you his League Card

Later on you move down and see two Team Yell Grunts. Hop comes and helps out


At the end you find Kabu confronting Team Yell. He'll tell you to get some rest ahead of the gym battle

Get into Motostoke and go to the inn and you'll fine Marnie and she'll challenge you to a battle. Defeat her and she'll meet you in the inn lobby and she'll give you Kabu's League Card.

Go to the Gym and Kabu's Gym Mission is to catch Pokémon. Earn 5 points by catching them to clear the mission but in a Multi Battle with an opponent who is trying to get points just like you. Wild Pokémon are Vulpix, Litwick and Sizzlpede. Kabu Gigantamaxes his Centiscorch. You then get the Fire Badge which lets you catch Pokémon up to Lv. 35, TM38 and the Fire Uniform.

You're told to go to the Wild Area and head towards Hammerlocke. As you head off, Nessa, Milo and Kabu come to see you off to the next part of Galar. However, Bede comes and interrupts and taunts Hop. When you get to Hammerlocke, Bede will say Hop is lagging behind, probably defeated. In Hammerlocke you see Rose, Oleana and Bede. Bede mentions how Wishing Stars solve the problem Galar is having and that they need more than them, but a trainer too. He says to meet at the Stadium

When you do, he will explain how the gym doubles as an Energy Plant which powers Galar. He then suggests you go to the vault before Route 6

Toxel for Togepi trade in Hammerlocke

Go through the vault and you'll meet Raihan who will show you through it and give you a league card

Go to Route 6 and you'll find Team Yell wanting to help a Silicobra sleep but won't let you through as you're too loud. Hop appears and you challenge them. Hop mentions how he feels like he's letting down Leon and wants to make sure he gets stronger. Then, Opal appears and gives you her League Card

Person in Route 6 is researching fossils. Give them two different fossils and they'll make you a Pokémon using them. For example Dino and Bird gives Arctozolt

Now in Stow-on-Side, you'll find Hop and he'll want to challenge you to make sure he's not ruining his brother's name. After beating him, Opal appears and gives you Bea's League Card

I'm playing Sword. The Sword mission is a slide down in a cup to make your way to the goal by rotating the stick. Bea Gigantamaxes her Machamp. Beat her and you can catch Pokémon up to Level 40, get the TM42 and the Fighting Outfit

When you leave, SOnia appears and you hear a problem at the nearby ruins. Go there and you see Bede and a Copperajah damaging the ruins to find Wishing Stars and battles you

Defeat him and Rose & Oleana come to chastise him and disqualify him from the gym challenge. Bede was recruited by Rose to take the gym challenge. After they're taken away, the historical site collapses and we see two statues of Pokémon

Your task is to get to Ballonlea through Glimwood Tangle. In the gym you meet Marnie and she gives you a League Card then leaves.

The Gym Mission is battle trainers and answer questions as an audition. If you get the question wrong, your stats are lowered. If you get them right, your stats are boosted. First question is Fairy type weaknesses: Poison or Steel. Both are correct.
Second asks what the previous trainer was called: Annetta or Annette
Third asks what do I eat for breakfast every morning: Curry or Omlettes. Answer is Omlettes
You then battle Opal. She Gigantamaxes her Alcremie. She continues to ask questions during battle. Defeat her and she gives you the Fairy Bad, which lets you catch Pokémon up to Level 45, get the TM and the Fairy Uniform

Leave the Gym and Opal stops you to take you to Hammerlocke. When there you see Bede who is upset, but Opal stuns him when she seems impressed by him. She offers to help Bede

Go towards the east of town and speak to Sonia when an earthquake happens as the stadium shakes. Sonia detects a Power Spot and worries about Pokémon starting to Dynamax in Hammerlocke. You'll then find Hop who wants to go to Route 7 where he'll battle you and then promise a rematch at Circhester

In Route 7 some Team Yell members are blocking the way east



When you get to Circhester, Hop will be there already and will have lost. He gives you Gordie's League Card

In Sword, The Circhester Gym has invisible pitfalls which will make you have to start the platform again. The detector will vibrate when there's one in front of you. There are 3 areas to go through this with the final having a sandstorm so you can't see.

When you get to the end you battle Gordie. He has Gigantamax Coalossal. Defeat him and you can catch Pokémon up to Lv. 50, receive TM48 and the Rock Uniform
Exit and Sonia will meet you, she wants to take you to a restaurant to discuss matters. Hop is also there. Afdter discussing the legends, Hop challenges you to a battle. After beating him, he goes towards the next gym

Go to Route 9 and you encounter Team Yell cheering on Drednaw and stop people going through Route 9. Defeat them and the man will upgrade your Rotom Bike to go on water

When you get to Spikemuth, it's blocked off but Marnie is around the corner and calls you and shows you the way in as she gew up there, but you must battle her first. Then she promises a rematch when she has all badges

When in, she gives you Pier's League Card while she goes investigate why the shutters are down

This basically starts your Gym Mission where you have to face off against Team Yell Grunts including areas where a Kantonian Mr. Mime blocks off the path.
At the end Marnie learns that the Team Yell grunts shut the city off in order to help her so nobody else could join the gym challenge. At the end is Piers. You can't Dynamax in this battle. Defeat him and you'll get the Dark Badge which lets you cath Pokémon up to Lv. 55, the Dark Uniform .

Afterwards, Marnie comes and Piers, her brother, mentions he wants her to take over the gym but she declines as she says she'll be a Champion.

Then you learn of problems in Route 9 which have caused Leon to appear but Leon says to not worry about it and focus on the Gym Challenge. Go through the tunnel and people talk about wild Dynamax Pokémon. Go through and you'll see Hop and he'll mention how wild Pokémon just started Dynamaxing. When in Hammerlocke, Sonia and Magnolia are there and start discussing the Wild Pokémon Dynamaxing phenomenon as related to the legend of the darkest day but Leon insists you take care of the gyms while he deals with it

Go into the Gym. This Gym Mission has you defeat trainers in Double Battles then battle him in a Double Battle. He Gigantamaxes Duraludon. Beat him for the Dragon Badge which removes all level restrictions for capture, the Dragon Uniform and TM99

After beating him, Sonia and Magnolia meet up with you. With the research they've done, Sonia gains a lab coat and has the task of finding out the legend of the people with the sword and shield.
Then at the train station Hop appears after having beaten Raihan and is to join you on the train to Wyndon
