Serious illness! The voice actress of Pikachu!

Firstly, the website source is a certain website I get One Piece from, I cannot say it here. But they have reveiled that Shounen Jump has released this source.

Ikue Ohtani the voice actress of Pikachu and many other Animés in Japan has recently but struck down with a serious illness, it was not stated what it was.

Ikue Ohtani, 40 this coming August, the voice talent of Chopper has been struck with an illness serious enough that she has been relieved from work and will temporarily be substituted with Kazue Ikura. The exact illness was not specified.

We all wish her the best of luck with her health and a speedy recovery.


She is also a star character in the one of the other most popular anime in Japan, Konjiki no Gash Bell, where she voices Gash.

Ikue (her first name) also voices several other characters which will require substitutes.
Her role in Detective Conan of Tsuburaya Mitsuhiko will be shifted to Ai Orikasa.
Her role of Pikachu in Pokemon and Konohamaru in Naruto had no substitute specified.

I am sorry to hear this and wish her the best of luck to get better...

I was thinking the same thing. I think it will be really strange that Pikachu will sound different, you know? We're all use to his high-pitched adorable voice D:

I don't understand why they'd need a replacement for Pikachu. They have more than enough voice clips from the previous 400 episodes to insert into Pikachu's mouth. It's not like Pikachu actually talks.

Maybe they'll do what they did with Shigeru! Take it off the show!

Except that Gary wasn't removed for his voice actor, that was just a rumour. They got rid of Gary since he was a useless character and he had no point in the show anymore after Ash beat him. No use keeping dead weight in the show, which is why they got rid of him.

I imagine there's enough sound clips of pikachu from the past 500 odd episodes that they needn't have anyone do the voice. I mean, do they really need someone to keep going into the studios to say "pika pika"? Do they know what kind of illness is serious enough to stop her talking, or is it just over reacting and she's got a bit of a sore throat and nothing a lemsip max strength wouldn't cure? If it's tonsilitis or something, then sucks to be her, but it's easily treatable.

I wonder if they will change Pikachu voice, though there really isn't any need too. Although I'll like to hear the replacement for Chopper and Zatch, that'll be interesting.

I also heard that the creator of Zatch Bell manga broke his arm and can't draw at the moment.

Does Ohtani voice any of the human characters in the show? I'm aware she does a few other pokémon like Manene, but I can't recall anyone ever mentioning her doing full-on speaking roles.
