Seriously, WTF Game Freak. ._.

Look at today's update for Diamond and Pearl:

http://www.serebii.net/index2.shtml

The thing I'm concerned about it the last little bulletpoint for possible changes. It concerns switching the way physical and Special attacks are catagorized. Attacks like Thunderpunch will become psysical and attacks like Hyper Beam will become Special. If this makes it into the game, it will COMPLETELY change and totally screw up the way the game is played. Our Exploders will become useless, and Alakazam is going to become horribly weak. This change is POINTLESS, and it's completely unwelcome. I really want to know who it was who thought up the idea to change the basic gameplay from the way it's been for TEN YEARS in favor of this new shite battling system. I seriously have no earthly idea why they would do this. To put it bluntly, it's retarded. Maybe they wanted to make the game more anime-like, or maybe they didn't want people to rely too much on their traded 3rd Generation Pokemon for battling. Neither of those reasons are acceptable or welcome. I really hope this catastrophe doesn't fall through, or the whole thing is just a misunderstanding or a rumor. If this does become reality, it will most likely ruin Pokemon for a lot of people, myself included.

What are your thoughts on this? This appears to be a sure sign that Jesus is coming. ._.

Nothing to be done
At first it made me a bit uncomfortable, but now I'm looking foward to it with great anticipation. Yes, your special punching Alakazams, and Exploding Snorlaxes will be things of the past. So leave them in the third generation and look at all the new combos that become possible, all of the new staples of battling that will emerge.

Alakazam looses Thunder Punch and gains Shadow Ball. Gengar can finally do some real good with Shadow Ball. Machamps and Hitmonchans with special punches could do some real good. The new possibilities are endless. And of course the fourth generation is building itself around this new system. It's not as though they're suddenly robbing your team of everything that made it work. They're starting afresh, and the fourth generation games and Pokemon are being designed in a way which will compliment this new system. I say at least give it a chance.

It could be bigger than Jesus.

Big change. It might be useful. But now that this has changed, it could be more easy to understand what types do attacks fall under.

EDIT: Crap, your right about Typhlosion....They better come up with something else or I might not trade over my Typhlosion....

Well this is...interesting. If any of this is true, then we really can't say what else might be in D/P. It seems like the face of Pokemon as we know it is about to undergo drastic changes. Question is, though, will it be for the better? Or worse?

Bet Sneasel is drooling in anticipation for D/P now.

*throws biggest temper tantrum the world has ever seen*

Mightyena might become better, but that's not the point. The point is that Salamence is going to become Jesus and Typhlosion got shafted! *violent sobbing*

I say we start a petition. But those never work...

I know. :( And Salamence has become even more powerful with physical Dragon Claw.

However, Mightyena does get a physical STAB now with Crunch if that's any consolation...

Damn, I meant to quote the first post... oh well, at least Machamp can use elemental Punches and can still do heavy damage. And a strange Screech/Pursuit combo for Umbreon could work too...

You're welcome :).
I love this change, its going to kill. The metagame may take months to be re-done, and think of how long it'll take to reprogram those battle simulators :s

Well, they gave Typhlosion Thunderpunch back in Emerald, so maybe they'll have some kinda compensation.

Not. Gamefreak enjoys pissing on Johto.

wait, i'm a little behind on a question.

How does this affect salamance and Typhlosion. It doesn't seem like anything is bad.

on another note: I do like the change. It makes the game more fun in my mind.

Too damn true. Oh well, at least Porygon2 and Kingdra are barely effected... for now. Salamence is going to kill practically everything. It's so ridiculous.

Tell me how is Alakazam useless now?

This affects Alakazam, a pokemon who is so weak so as to be unable to move it's own limbs without the aid of telekinesis, because the three elemental punches which gave it so much type coverage as a sweeper; Thunder Punch, Fire Punch and Ice Punch, which were previously special attacks, and would thus benefit from Alakazam's high special attack stat, are now physical attacks and thus will suffer from his extremely low attack stat.

Thus, Alakazam, who has the highest base special attack of any non-Legendary pokemon looses the ability to score super effective attacks against a wide variety of pokemon, rendering it, and it's insanely high special attack, useless and unusable in the metagame.

We can only hope for new Diamond and Pearl attacks which add a little more versatility to the move pool.

As for my opinion on the matter, I'm, on the whole, indifferent; *****ing about it won't change Nintendo's decision. I am a little upset that more information regarding this hasn't been released, so that we could at least use the time before release to adjust our movesets and EV training accordingly. And, before y'all start bashing me for EV training and wanting to transfer pokemon to D/P, I fully intend to train new pokemon in Shinou, but, that doesn't mean I should have to abandon the pokemon I've trained through Ruby and Fire Red or that it's wrong for me attempt to make them as effective at battling as possible.

Yeah, just after Dragon Claw which is now physical and CBed lols at it. Tyranitar and Metagross get advantages with physical punches too, but nothing like this. Tyranitar can still be beaten by Machamp. Metagross also can be beaten by various ****. But Salamence has become all but broken.

Typhlosion is ****ed due to losing Thunderpunch as a Special Attack, it now works off a lower attack, and Dragon Claw is now physical, and the only thing resisting it is Steel - where Mence gets Fire Attacks and Earthquake to compensate. Bad ****ing game GameFreak, you complete and utter retards.

Maybe all HP will be special? I hope so.

But at least Typhlosion's attack isn't as obnoxiously low as some others'.

Best Psychic Type.
Even if the attacks change, not all will be bad. Some Pokemno might even get stronger! And if you don't like it, always remember you still can trade those monsters [the compatible ones] back to the 3rd Generation games and still have your same attacks abilities. ^_^;
