Okay, time for me to make the most retarded thread I've ever done.
I don't see a thread entirely dedicated to Satoshi's new rival yet, and since Shinji is my favourite D/P character so far, I thought "why not?". Hopefully this will bacome a good discussion thread, and will not be spammed so much.

Okay, anyway... how much do we know about him? He has an Elekid, an Hikozaru, he's going to get a Yamikaras/Murkrow. He releases Pokémon he thinks are not strong enough. His official art is probably traced from the old Sugimori art for the Rival appeared in the Raikou special.

But what is his role? Going to be Satoshi's definitive new rival? Will they battle in the League against each other? Will he fight against Satoshi because he secretly loves Hikari and so is jealous (okay this is probably shipping stuff so not to be put here...)? Is he related to any characters we know/have seen in other seasons/are going to appear in this season? (if he is the son of the EVIL TEAM chief, I'll laugh. HARD. G/S/C and Team Rocket reference for those who can see it...) Is he REALLY 10 years old? Because I think that he has just started training Pokémon, but for some reason he looks older, since Satoshi can't be 10 anymore and Shinji DOES look as old as him or even older.

I'd love to hear any of your theories and give out mine.
And, if this thread has already been done in the past, thus making this an useless one that has to be closed, I'm going to emotionally slit my wrists.

Ps. this thread is not for "OMG SHINJI SUCKS!" or "OOOH I LOVE SHINJI HE'S SO SEXY<3" posts. Even if I may support the second statement.

He's already got a Hikari, now we need a Rei and an Asuka, plus a dad named Gendo.

Shinji's biggest fault, according to the anime, seems to be that he releases Pokemon back into the wild so that they may be FREE and not forced to fight for sport or show off moves in contests or lug stuff around or whatever. His motivaions, though dubious, still don't change the fact that he COULD just let them rot in their Pokeballs for all eternity. So there IS an element of kindness there.

And that's all I'll say until we see him again. AKA "this thursday".

But of course. After all, the Pokemon actually have to see the INSIDE OF A POKEBALL. And don't forget the fact that precious minutes of their life are wasted before going free again.

Which makes you wonder when Ash will take it upon himself to cause an explosion that sends Shinji flying for hundreds of feet until he lands somewhere and hopefully survives.

Shinjis badass he doesn't need kindness. He does that b/c they are weak, and who'd want a weak Pkmn?

That's probably one of the things I like most about him (so far at least...).
But then, he probably IS going to "become good" before the end of the series. What will he do then? Keep all the Pokémon he fights even if they are not what he's looking for? I just wonder.

I'm sure it'll be easier to get a better understanding of his character after the next episode. The after-effects of winning, losing, or drawing against Satoshi should tell us more about his personality. I still think the writers may have them draw again (by calling off the battle at the end of the episode).
