It's a 1 in 8192 chance of finding one, your best chance is to either get lucky, keep hatching till ya get one or SR in front of a legendary or when you get your started poke.

to get one as starter save as close as possble to your favorite starter and start soft reseting (Yay shiny squrtile =)

sigh. i wasnt going to even justify this with an answer, but i guess the more people say it the more chance the guy has of maybe reading the site or checking other threads...
1/8192 chance of encountering a shiny pokemon in the wild or against another trainer. its the only way.

Luck. You don't know when one will turn up.

I've got 4.
my first one I sat for 5 hours straight before I got it. It menas running from every Pokemon that attacks you and staying in the same area. No guarantee if you'll get one that way though.

My second one was when I was EV training my Swampert

The third one I ran into by accident

The 4th one I had the gameboy on for 5 minutes and surfing and it appeared. I was shocked.o_O

It's completely based on luck. You don't know when they'll appear. The problem is the ones that appear are the ones I don't want as shiny but I catch them because they're shiny and that's it. Yet to find a shiny I actually want.=P

It's true, it's all up to chance. I got my first Fire Red shiny today. It was a Raticate I caught in the Pokemon Mansion.
