To be perfectly honest, I think Viz should totally redo the whole dang magazine. The manga listed for Shojo Beat are very different content and age wise. To list Ultra Maniac with God Child? Uh...no. That's just stupid. It's also the reason Japan's shoujo "phone books" actually have somewhat of a set age rating.
Nakayoshi, Ciao, Ribon, all these are for younger girls. The stories you find in these puppies are a lot more light hearted, and usually don't cross too much into yaoi/yuri. They're for younger girls and their furoku and zenin makes that very clear.
Then you have older phone book magazines like Hana to Yume and Margaret. Unlike the previously mentioned magazines, these ones are for much older girls, and it shows. The gifts given with them are much more mature and a lot less cutesy. The stories in here also don't mind breaking into unexplored areas.
I mean, in all truth it's not hurting anything, but it WOULD make much more sense to do it that way. *sigh* Oh well. Maybe it's just me complaining since I purchase some of the mentioned "young" magazines.
