Should I continue?

As some of you know, i'm working on a fic called The Magikarp Girl. but recently, I've been thinking of giving up on the story and going with something completely diffrent. i want to show what I can do, but so far, I haven't been able to here.

I don't know whether it's that the people that read fics that i've done before weren't honest about how well it was written, or if it's that I've been in a slump lately.

Anyways, here's the reasons that I've been thinking of stopping:

-I'm trying to do three new challenges at once in the same story. A trainer fic (I usually focus on the pokemon), a novel size story (On average my stories are a little over 3000 words total), and using original characters (I tend to use canon characters for the most part).

-It's starting to turn into an anime rip-off, and that's something I want to avoid.

-I have no idea which way to go with the story.

-Since I have a new job taking up most of my time, I don't have as much time to write as I used to.

-I have a Sonic the Hedgehog fic I want to work on.

So, what do you guys think?

If that's how you feel about it, maybe you should discontinue writing it. I did with all my pokemon fics. *shrugs*
But writing just one fic does sometimes get a bit boring for a while...

Well, maybe just write your Sonic fic and add a little bit at a time to Magikarp Girl. Who knows, maybe in half a year you'll want to post it again and you'll have a base to work on.

Take a break from the story for a while. Work on something else, and just leave it alone. New ideas might come to you pretty soon, but don't give it up if they don't. If after a long time you're still not interested at all, stop writing, but keep the story just in case you ever decide to resume. I had a story I didn't want to do after a while of writing, but I just left it alone and then came back to it later. It's coming along nicely.

Just don't push yourself; if you do, you won't be happy and your story will be a big goopy mess.

Don't stop. If you do, it means you're not responsible enough to carry on with something. Besides, I like your fiction.

Just listen to the suggestions given to you {Espically Yami Ryu's suggestions} and you will improve in good time young Xtra. Nobody starts out perfect {Your better at writing than I am} but just give it some time.

But that's the thing. I've been writing for 6 years. So I'm not new at writing.

...And here comes the biast answers. Tell me this, would you rather read a crud story where the author was pushed now, or a really good one later? Patience is a virtue. ;)

Besides, it does not show that you are not responisble. It shows that you are sensible enough, and mature enough, to know when you have to stop, and that you have the ability to do so, despite the peer pressure you get. THAT means a lot more.

Anyways, I would go with Faeries suggestion. Just write something else for a while. Pushing someone to write something they don't want to is NEVER the answer. It comes out wrong and puts the author in a miserable mood, from thinking they are rubbish and will never be able to write anything good again. Trust me, I've been there. It took me a while to get over it, a time in which I wrote nothing. It took RP's to get me back into action. So please, don't push a writer. No matter if you are the writer yourself. Just wait until you feel like it. In the meanwhile, write something else. You'll come back to it eventually, if you want to.

=D

On another note, you ARE a good writer. It isn't just skill that makes a writer, but determination. And by keeping it up for six years, you have most certainly proved that. =D

Good luck!

Well, I've never read your story, but I've been in your shoes quite often (and I'm in that position now).

See, I have a rule of thumb, and that's...only give up if you REALLY hate your story, and it has only one, two, or three chapters (four is pushing it). Generally, don't give up...just put your story on hiatus. Tell yourself, "okay, I need to take a break from this. I'm going to work on something else, or not work on anything at all, but eventually, I will continue this."

Ideas don't come if you force them. Sometimes, you have to wait for the great idea to come, the one that will completely turn the plot around, make your story great, and give it that middle and end it will need to finish.

So my suggestion to you...even though I've never read anything you've written...you've been writing for six years. You should know when something you're writing is going off the path you want it on. Take a break for a little while, but DON'T drop or delete the story (since you care about it). Write something else...and inspiration will come. Eventually.

Then, by all means, continue with Magikarp Girl. :3

Personally...I think it's almost always a bad idea to give up on a story and drop it completely. But if you don't know where you're going - not writer's block or feeling stressed or being more interested in your other stories or being busy, but not really having any more of the story to write...then, I think it is a good idea to drop it.
