Sims 2 Problem

Mush! Mush!
Okay, I am using an official Sims 2 game (Regular version) and apart from using a crack to not force me to use the CD, I'm having a problem.
There is this perk where if you try to use Build Mode tools, you get no success. Any way to do this without reinstalling?
