*Detailed description of the Pokemon's purpose to the team*

  • Here are examples of what is and isn't acceptable:

    What's acceptable:

    Jirachi @ Shuca Berry
    Ability: Serene Grace
    EVs: 252 Atk / 80 SDef / 176 Spe
    Nature: Jolly [+Spe, -SAtk]

    • Iron Head
    • Thunder Wave
    • Fire Punch
    • Stealth Rock

Thunderwave Jirachi, as a lead, has been successful for my team. The purpose of Jirachi is to get Stealth Rocks up, and once that's done, Pokemon such as Gyarados, Dragonite, or DD Babari Berry Tyranitar that switch in to try and set up on my lead are immediately rendered useless thanks to Thunderwave. My game plan is to set up stealth rocks first, and then Thunderwave to scout my opponent's team/cripple any sweeper hoping to use Jirachi as set up bait. With Choice Scarf being popular on lead sets, I decided to take advantage of its popularity, and it has paid off in every game I have been in.

Jirachi has been EVed to top Lucario in speed and use Fire Punch, or at the very least stop him completely with Thunderwave. Sometimes, getting a burn hax via Fire Punch helps, but as I can't KO Lucario with it, I tend to play it safe with T-Wave in most games. Either method is fine as Lucario remains crippled at the end of the day.

    What's not ok:

    Inferape @ Life Orb
    Ability: Blaze
    EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SAtk / 252 Spe
    Nature: Naive
    -Stealth Rocks
    -Close Combat
    -Fake Out
    -Fire Blast

Standard lead, sets up rocks and breaks sash for my opponent.

Both sets are fine as far as formatting is concerned, but the second set will likely get your post deleted and/or you will get an infraction due to not enough information being given. The first set had a different kind of formatting, but it stuck to the basic template outlined in this post and had a long enough description, telling us what purpose it has on the team etc. That being said, even though you have to follow the template, you can customize how it looks, providing all information is viewable.

Houndoom @ Salac Berry
252 Speed, 252 Sp. Atk, 4 HP
-Fire Blast
-Dark Pulse
-Nasty Plot / Hidden Power (Grass)
-Endure

Here's another gimmick I thought of when I was trying to make a usable Houndoom set. With the rising prominence of spinblockers suck as Gourgeist and Trevenant, Houndoom immediately struck me as a Pokemon that might find a niche in its ability to destroy these new spinblockers, as well as check things like Aegislash and even Mega Gengar. This set is custom tailored to beat Gourgeist, Aegislash, Trevenant, Gengar, Mega Gengar, Jellicent, Sableye, and Chandelure, basically every spinblocker you're likely to see in OU. The idea is to switch in on a Gourgeist or something and likely net a Flash Fire boost from Will-O-Wisp. After that you have to choose between immediately firing off powerful Dark Pulses or Fire Blasts, or setting up a Nasty Plot in an attempt to sweep. Endure + Salac Berry is what really sets this set apart. It allows it to beat Gengar by Enduring Focus Blast and then outspeeding and KOing with Dark Pulse, and it allows it to potentially attempt a sweep by boosting his subpar Speed to usable levels. Fire Blast and Dark Pulse are STAB options, and Nasty Plot lets him net Special Attack boosts on switches from spinners. Hidden Power (Grass) is an alternative, but generally doesn't hit as hard as STAB Dark Pulse unless your opponent is named Gastrodon or Tyranitar or something.

Obviously this set is ruined by priority, so something that can take on priority users and win is necessary. I find Thundurus-T, Jolteon, Aegislash, and Jellicent do a marvelous job at this. In addition, he likes hazards, since he can't always net a Nasty Plot boost, and hazards let him OHKO a lot more with his unboosted attacks. Pokemon like Ferrothorn and Forretress attract fire like magnets and set up hazards for him. Shuckle is an interesting teammate since he gets both Stealth Rock and Sticky Web, both of which Houndoom appreciates. Genesect makes an interesting partner since he attracts Fire moves and can whittle down faster opponents with Scarfed U-Turns. Ironically the very Pokemon this set is meant to defeat, namely Gourgeist and Trevenant, find themselves right at home alongside him as well, being able to take on powerful Fighting types and live to tell the tale, while Houndoom can clear away opposing Fire types and things like Gengar in return.

Venusaur - Big Root
252 Hp, 252 Sp Def, 4 Def
Leech Seed
Giga Drain
Ingrain
Toxic

This is a very tough wall to take down with all his healing abilities and he can survive most attacks very well thanks to his high base stats.
And while it takes 3 turns to fully set him up he can survive most of the time unless against ice or fire types.

One option would be to switch Big Root for the Mega Stone; the additional bulk and reduction in damage from Fire and Ice could prove more useful in the long run.

Although I don't have a image, here is my strategy:

Shuckle Bug/Rock
Ability: Sturdy
Nature: Lonely
Item:Chesto Berry
Moves:
Toxic
Infestation/sand tomb
Rest
Protect

This strategy is where I use toxic, then a protect, an infestation or sand tomb, then protect. when my HP is low and/or I have a status, I can just use rest and heal, in addition to having a chesto berry lets me get right back up.
worked on multiple Pokémon I've fought, I would just like an opinion that would make it even better.

Shuckle has the HIGHEST defense in the game, and also highest special defense, making it a Tank that has the worst attack in the world. I mean, it's slower then a level 18.venipede (when Shuckle is at 50) so other strategies I use is gyro ball for sweepers or stealth rock for maximum strength. Any suggestions?

Setup bait for steel types (most notably Scizor) and completely screwed over by Substitute. Like, legitimately any Pokemon with Substitute hard counters Shuckle. Shuckle may have high defenses, but its low speed and attack means Subs will be put up before it can Toxic, and it lacks the power to break a Substitute. Shuckle is just bad for this reason; gives easy opportunities to set up. It's better to use a defensive Pokemon like Ferrothorn or something which can actually threaten opponents. Alternatively, you might want to have Encore on there somewhere if you're insistent upon using Shuckle; Encore can at least prevent you from being complete setup bait or being shut down by a Sub.

Encore. That actually sounds like it would be even better then taunt (although Shuckle can't learn taunt. I tried already)

What move should I get rid of? (Infestation traps opponents so they can't escape and all Pokémon are affected. downside you have to still be alive and it lasts for 4-5 turns only. )

Diggersby @ Life Orb
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 252 Attack, 252 Speed, 4 HP
Nature: Adamant
- Agility
- Power-Up Punch
- Earthquake
- Quick Attack/Return

I expect it him to come in and take out opposing walls. He can take a hit due to IVs in HP, Attack, Defense, and Sp. Defense. (I'm not too familiar with all competitive terminology so I don't know what else to put here)

Diggersby does in fact get Swords Dance, so I recommend running that over PUP. That doesn't hit anything harder than one of its STAB moves. Also, run Return in for your Normal STAB; Quick Attack is fairly redundant with the Agility boost here. Other than that, looks fairly solid.

Since I have a love for Normal types, I want to try this Pokemon, just because it's so unused and unexpected:

;295; Exploud@Wise Specs/Leftovers
Ability: Scrappy
252 HP, 252 SpAtk, 4 Speed
Nature: Modest
~Boomburst
~Overheat
~Surf
~Supersonic/Shadow Ball/Roar/Toxic

Honestly, the last two moves are fillers- depending on what route I want to go. Boomburst and Overheat are keepers; with Scrappy, NOTHING can avoid a 140-base power Boomburst (not even Substitutes), and anything that resists it can't hold up on an Overheat. Now, if I want to run Wise Specs, then Shadow Ball and Surf would be a good coverage set, but I'd like something like Toxic, Supersonic, or Roar (to include Spikes damage), in which case Leftovers would be superior.

What do you guys think would be the best route for this Exploud? I know MegaLucario and basically any other Pokemon with a Fighting move would counter him, but if I put enough in HP, could he be tanky enough to survive a super-effective hit?

Noivern:Life Orb/Choice Specs
Abillity: Infriltrator
Nature: Modest
EV: 252sp.atk, 252 speed , 4 HP
-Boomburst/Hidden Power (Bug)
-Flamethrower/Focus Blast
-Dragon Pulse/Draco Meteor
-Air slash/ Hurricane

Boomburst is mostly for neutral coverage against Fairy types, because Noivern lacks any special super effective moves against them, save for one. Where Hidden power(Bug) is somewhat weaker then Boomburst, the 2x damage against the Fairy Type might do the trick+ on other types like Dark or Psychic. Flamethrower to get rid off Ice and Steel Types. Focus Blast has stronger power and will give an additional coverage against Rock but at the cost of 30% accuracy. Dragon Pulse and Draco Meteor against other dragons. Dragon Pulse for more accuracy and Draco Meteor for more power but slightly lower accurracy. Like most of the moves i mentioned, Air Slash for more Accuracy and a luck factor called flinch or Hurricane for more damage, lower Accuracy, and a chance to confuse the target.

Regarding the items, Life Orb for lower dmg then C.Specs but without locking yourself in a single move or the C.Specs for more raw power but with the risk of locking yourself.

Not sure if it is a good set though. This is the only set i could think of, think it is a bit too frail to heal itself up with Roost or Moonlight. Might be Wrong Ofc. Some Tips Will be really Helpfull :)

Hi everyone I'm new to Serebii Forums and competitve Pokemon playing, just started this gen.

Name: Clawitzer
Item: Leftovers
Ability: Mega Launcher
Nature: Modest
EV: 252 Sp.Atk/ 126 Speed/ 126 HP or 126 Sp.Def

Moveset:
Aura Sphere
Dark Pulse
Water Pulse
Dragon Pulse/ Ice Beam/ Sludge Bomb

I know Clawitzer is underused and competitively people don't see his potential but I think he has the possibility to OHKO especially against those that lack special defense. I really wanted a shiny one but unfortunately I haven't found one, just a 5 IV regular one :(

So in terms of IV spread I'm not sure how much speed is needed to outrun certain competitive pokemon. So if anyone know how to calculate or find it out please let me know. But I gave it 126 EV speed so that it could outrun some of the slower yet competitive pokemon. I think it only needs 4 EV's to outrun a Tyrantatar. And I gave the rest into either HP or Special defence to ultimately give it endurance so that it can survive at least 1 hit if not 2.

In terms of ability and nature they are what make clawitzer viable at all... Without Modest nature and Mega Launcher ability it would have difficulty OHKO but now its range of targets has expanded.

I chose the moveset to cover a broadset especially since Clawitzer is a pure Water Type he's only weak to 2 TYPES. Allowing him to be able to go against many different Pokemon without fearing a whole bunch of easy weakness damage. Instead you only have to worry about 2. The rest are normal with 4 TYPES being no effective against it. Also it's movepool is highly on the offensive side with a broad spectrum of pulse and sphere moves that it can learn to abuse the ability as hard as possible. So I feel that Clawitzer can make a great opener pokemon, despite the fact he cannot set-up a trap for your opponent but it can get rid of your opponent's trap setters.

Example: Clawitzer vs Tyrantitar... There is a Base 90 Water Pulse to abuse, or Base 135 Aura Sphere to abuse. Both Really good Base Power against a Bulky Tyrantitar... Now I don't know how to calculate who would actually win here, but pretty sure Clawitzer would win here with a Base 135 Aura Sphere and a X4 weakness! OR... Water Pulse with a base 90 Power, X2 weakness and a WATER STAB due to similar Typing...

In conclusion, Clawitzer can hit multitude of enemies and can abuse Water Pulse pretty well which equates to a Surf with a side effect to confuse the opponent as well.

Please rate and provide feedback! This is my first time going competitive I read and saw a lot of videos on how to EV train and IV hatch and what is considered good or bad also saw a lot of pokemon online competitive battles. I know I am still inexperienced by far which is why I hope with feedback I can develop a unique and original team that doesn't have the same 4 pokemon playing on every team that I see.

Lucario @ Lucarionite
Ability: Steadfast / Adabtability
EVs: 252 Spe / 252 Atk / 4 Def
Nature: Jolly
- Hone Claws
- High Jump Kick
- Iron Tail
- Stone Edge

I've tested this on Showdown multiple times, and it continues to wreck teams. After Hone Claws your Iron Tail and High Jump kick hit around 95% of the time and Stone Edge also has it's shabby accuracy increased. Abusing a base 130 STAB move with Adabtability and no drawbacks (Aside from ghost types and protect users) is extremely scary. Iron Tail hits the new fairies hard and offers a lot of neutral coverage on the field. Stone Edge hits annoying flying and fire types for SE damage. Jolly nature and EV Spread help to make M-Lucario as fast as possible.

@ Person above me

I'm relatively new here as well, but I'd go with the HP over SpD for Clawitzer, it's better having general bulk than specialised bulk imo. Also Ice Beam is probably the better of the three coverage moves you have there, as dragon pulse only hits dragon's super effectively. Use Sludge Bomb is fairies are annoying you, but generally ice beam is a good coverage move to have.

thanks for the feed back mate appreciate it. Also for your lucario it does look like a solid build although the only thing I would be skeptical is that if someone physically or special sweeps lucario because he is powerful but lacks both defenses. Depending on your match up I can see a hone claw setup would give you the advantage but if your lucario cannot take a hit the whole purpose of abusing hone claws with stabs is pointless. But interesting moveset. Not sure what adaptability does but will look it up after this comment

Gengar @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 Spe / 252 HP / 4 SpD
Nature: Timid (+Spe -Atk)
- Torment
- Hypnosis
- Mean Look
- Perish Song

I started trying out Gengar as something other than a special sweeper and this set works great! Put your victims to sleep with Hypnosis, wait for the inevitable switch out, proceed to Mean Look instantly and Perish Song them before switching out Gengar on the last turn and fainting the opposition, if I'm lucky I can do this 2 times at least in your average match. Torment prevents Specs/Scarf/Banded users as well as anything that hits Gengar Super Effectively. This set is basically my counter to Fake-Out/Return/Power Up Punch Kangashkan.

You know what else stops kanga, standard gengar with will-o-wisp. This set takes to long to effectively work and is overall bad as as soon as you manage to hit hypnosis, it gets switched out so you mean look whatever comes in and then your gengar is dead weight because of the sleep clause

Name: Venasaur
Ability: Chlorophyll
Nature: Timid
Item: Mega Stone OR Leftovers
EV Spread: 200 HP/ 120 Speed/ 190 Sp atk

Moveset:
Solarbeam/Petal Blizzard
Gigadrain/ Synthesis
Earthquake
Toxic

Pre-set up sunny day with another pokemon, and chip away with my moveset inflicting toxic to every pokemon possible first. Followed by, depending on the moveset, attacking with a typical solar beam or using synthesis. If I have a mega stone then I would use petal Blizzard and Giga Drain, but if I go with Leftovers so that the sunny day can double my speed then I would go with Solar Beam and synthesis moveset. Mega stone to take advantage of my bulk in Special atk and defences. Or leftovers and sunny day to take advantage of increased speed and set up poison traps at the very least.

Don't use Petal Blizzard, since it's Physical and will be weakened by your Timid nature. Perhaps you could use Petal Dance instead? Sure, the dizziness afterward is less than desirable, but you take out so many Pokemon!

If you want to, you can go for:
Venusaur | Venusaurite
Thick Fat
Jolly
200 HP | 120 Speed | 190 Atk
Petal Blizzard
Earthquake
Synthesis
Toxic / Leech Seed

OR you can go for:
Venusaur | Leftovers
Chlorophyll
Timid
200 HP | 120 Speed | 190 SpAtk
Solar Beam
Sludge Bomb
Synthesis
Toxic / Leech Seed

The first set gives you some defenses against Fire and Ice, with Earthquake taking those out. Petal Blizzard will be your STAB, Synthesis to assist with tanking hits. Toxic or Leech Seed for some fun times with whittling down health.
The second set makes use of Venusaur's boosted speed in the sun (although you are heavily reliant on Mega Charizard Y or other Sunny Day setups). Synthesis gets a significant boost, Solar Beam mows down everything that doesn't resist it and Sludge Bomb checks Fairies and the like. The fourth slot, I've already talked about.
Hope that helps!

Ahh ok Thank a lot mate! Appreciate the feedback. I had a similar thought process when I wrote it down, And wasn't sure which line to take ... Speed Chlorophyll or tank Mega Evolution. But in terms of strategy I was thinking along those lines somewhat.

ModelT

The Normal Trainer
Okay, here's a set I thought of that might be silly, but kind of fun. It's sort of mixed critical sweeper.

257.png

Blaziken @ Scope Lens
Speed Boost
252 HP / 100 Attack / 156 Sp. Attack
Serious
- Focus Energy
- Over Heat
- High Jump Kick / Superpower (Bank)
- Hone Claw (1v1) / Baton Pass (Team)

With the new Critical Hit mechanics, using Focus Energy w/ Scope Lens gets you to 100% crit hits all day long. This allows you to spam Over Heat w/ NO draw back, since getting a crit ignores both opponent def. buff and attack debuffs on self. High Jump Kick on all crit makes for some serious damage. Both moves have a 130 BP, get STAB, and deal 1.5x damage. I chose Hone Claw on the chance that I may get to set up more. The extra attack is nice, but the Accuracy is more important as both moves have 90 accuracy. As for EVs, the HP investment is for sustainability, and a mixed offense is handy. No Speed EVs since Speed Boost.

However, if you aren't using it for 1v1s, go with Baton Pass. A simple strat I considered is Baton Passing FE and Speed Boosts to Attack Deoxys @ Razor Claw w/ Psycho Boost and Superpower for a similar Mixed Crit Strategy.
