Sinnoh Dex 3.0 Speculation Thread

Ignition

We are so back Zygardebros
It's not like Unown was ever meant to be useful. It's literally just a gimmick pokemon.

They can bring Hidden Power back solely for BDSP, make Unown the only pokemon that can learn it, and no one will bat an eye.
Plus we already know moves cut from SwSh are returning in these games. In the Presents, they have a section that details the changes old features like the Underground and Contests got. In the Contests section, you can see a Pikachu that knows Return, a move that was removed from SwSh.

If they really are expanding the Dex even more, I hope they throw in more Dragons. Even with Platinum's expansion, the only Dragons in Sinnoh are Garchomp and Altaria. That's even worse than Fire's situation, it's just less noticeable because there's no Dragon type gym leader/Elite 4 that needs to spam random types to fill out their roster like they did for Candice, Volkner, and Flint.

I think its also less noticeable given that you can get the one of the 3 legendary Dragons through the playthrough which are very powerful. Plus Garchomp is also extremely good. You are right though it could really do with expanding the amount of available dragons. I did never notice how few Dragons there were in the region.

Honestly I don't see the need to add dragon types. Competitive is staying with SWSH and there are no important dragon type trainers.

It's not about competitive, if anything more Dragons hurts competitive because they tend to have high stats and diverse movepools. More Dragons is for team building variety, so people aren't limited to choosing the same handful of Dragons or for players who want to make a Dragon monotype team.

I don't think I've ever seriously considered using a dragon type in the main game.

I mean I don't really care if they add more dragons. So they might as well.

I'm wondering if the many of the Pokemon found in the Hideaways are actually out of the Pokedex like how Entree Forest was set up.

Granted, Entree Forest pulled Pokemon from Dream World, an outside source, but the original Black/White didn't have previous Pokemon in dex.

What I'm saying is that maybe Houndoom (for example) isn't really in the Pokedex.

Although I sincerely hope we have updated Pokemon teams.
I don't mind slight deviations for type specialists, but Flint should have more than two Fire types for example.

It is safe to say that they are going the Platinum Dex route. The trailer showed Houndoom which was a Pokemon not on the Sinnoh Dex for Diamond and Pearl but yes on the Sinnoh Dex for Platinum. If that is so, then Flint should not just have Rapidash and Infernape, but also Houndoom, Flareon, and Magmortar in his team making up his Elite Four defense party.

I believe all Pokemon that were not in the Diamond/Pearl dex but included in the Platinum Dex will most likely be found in those hidden underground areas.

I'm wondering though will the variant pokemon be in this game? Alolan Muk and Galarian Rapidash would really be dood in this game. Plus if we get decent fairy Pokemon in BDSP than Cynthia is in trouble

My guess is they will be able to be transferred in via Pokemon home (when that is set up to work with these games) but only for the Pokemon available in-game. Similar to how you could transfer an Alolan Meowth into Sword/Shield but not Alolan Grimer.

I'm definitely hoping to bring back Alolan Muk that was my main pokemon along with Primarina, such an amazing pokemon that could be really hard to deal with. But yeah am hoping the form pokemon will be transferable. Also raises big questions about whether Purrserker, Obstagoon and Cursola end up in the game

This makes me wonder if the Growlithe and others will be catchable in DP, sense it's the same region...or maybe they went extinct...which is very sad.

So I’m not sure if this falls under “Sinnoh Pokédex” or “available Pokémon” but this seems like the most relevant place to post my thoughts. It’s also related to my “connections to Legends: Arceus” thread which I won’t bump because it’s more too old and that’s okay.

After the second presentation I have very little doubt that the Sinnoh games will be closely connected through Pokémon Home. Specifically since they’ve said that Legends: Arceus will not have PvP (I’m 99.9% sure I read that somewhere), BDSP is the most likely way to showcase the Hisuian forms in that format. I don’t think they’ll be updating Sword and Shield again, that ship seems to have sailed.

So here’s what I’m calling right now, but I’m okay with being wrong: The available list of Pokémon in the Sinnoh remakes will include…

The original 493 available in Generation 4

Any Pokémon connected to those original 493 (Sylveon, regional forms and regional evolutions)

Any Pokémon that make their way to the Sinnoh region via Legends: Arceus (Rowlet, Oshawott, Basculin, and Rufflet lines so far).

How that affects the Pokédex remains to be seen, maybe they’ll just stick with the Platinum one, idk.

I think Sword and Shield will be updated again, if namely to make Pokémon like Wyrdeer, Basculegion, and Hisuian Braviary available in Ranked Battles. Since Ranked will remain exclusive to the Galar games, they will undoubtedly be the format used for VGCs, and I can't really see why they'd exclude Pokémon introduced in Pokémon Legends: Arceus (or potentially Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl) from VGCs.

Good point; I forgot about Ranked/VGC. I hope beyond the Hisuian additions there’s more of the cut Pokémon in the update too then.

I still think my point about BDSP’s roster stands though; it’s just too obvious to me with the games being linked by region, even if they have different names.

I don't expect another update unless they decide to give Sword and Shield a 3rd DLC.

If we could get Alolan forms, Meltan and Melmetal in Let's Go, Pikachu and Eevee, then I say new evolutions and Hisuian forms introduced in Legends, along with Pokemon from later generations featured there are a possibility at the moment. But until we know for sure, we can all hope.

They could once we get to Gen 9.
Aw, I would REALLY not want that to happen, because if it does, it would be the first time Pokémon species are not available in the standard online battling and VGCs formats that aren't Mythical Pokémon.

For that reason, and because they quite heavily support VGC events, I do think they will make them available to use in Sword and Shield. We haven't had an update without an expansion pass before, but we also haven't had the decision to keep Ranked and official tournament play to the original games of the generation before either. If what people theorize is true and the upcoming three Sinnoh games complete the National Pokédex, it would allow for every species of Pokémon to be available together in one game, which was what people wanted before this generation even began.

They would have to make more Sword and Shield DLC, and I don't know if people would want that.
