Attention Pokemon fans, Many people in this forum have asked "Where is Shinou?" Well, Shinou is confirmed to be the island of Hokkaido, Japan.

But, before I get to the geography lesson, here are some questions that need answering.

1.) Is Johto near Shinou?

No. It's on the other side of Japan from the main island of Japan you call Johto.

2.) Can you travel to other regions?

Nope. No way and no how. Shinou's all we're gettin'.

When more news becomes availible or other questions asked, this thread'll be answered. The Mods here have asked that all conversation about Shinou be here. As for the geography lesson:

Each region in the Pokemon games is based on a real region of Japan.

Kyushu: Hoenn turned 90 degrees matches it.
Kanto/Johto: The main Island of Japan. There is a real Kanto region.
Shinou: Hokkaido. Confirmed by Coro Coro.

Here's a map:

As you can see, the regions correlate with the maps in the game. Hoenn is Honshu and waaay up in the north is Shinou.

And here is the official map of Shinou.

There's no need to repost it now.

Good. Although I believe it was confirmed that we'll only be in Shinou in D/P anyway, this is worth noting.

It was confirmed? Where?

Although, Shinou being the only place you go means they can make it HUGE!]

Is their any cool geograpical features in Hokkaido that could make for some cool areas?

As well as a map of shinou, can you post a map of japan, say which bit matches which poke continent? If you can ledian, that would be a lot of help.

Here's a map with each area Pokemon regions are based on circled.

LX: I don't know why you said Hoenn is Honshu since that's the big island Kanto is on. >_>

There is a map of the regions here:

http://www.japan-guide.com/list/e1001.html

Tohjo (Kanto and Johto) matches Kanto, Shinou matches Hokkaido, and Hoenn matches Honshu, which is made up of Chugoku, Kinki, Chubu, Kanto, and Tohoku.

Knowledge is power! lol

It looks like there are more areas on the map from Zart Morder that have yet to be used. Nice to see Pokemon will be around for a while.

In the Pokemon World, Hoenn is Southwest of Johto, and seeing as that's also true for Japan, Shinou will probably be East or Northeast of Kanto.

Considering the size of the other regions to the new one, hopefully this region will be the largest so far.

If there are 9 Japanese regions wouldn't that make sense that there will be 9 Generations?
If they follow that map conservatively, this WILL be the largest region to date but I don't know if they will.....

I have been doing my homework about this and here are the important points I have found about Hokkaido;

I. It is connected to Honshu by the underwater Seikan Tunnel.
II. Just 6.4% of the internal island is water. So it is possible we won't see much "freshwater" areas.
III. There are 8 volcano "mountains" in Hokkaido, some still active.
IV. There are 7 islands off the coast of Hokkaido considered part of the region.
V. Known for cool Summers and Freezing Winters(avg. temp is 10 F to 25 F) and large chucks of ice are often found in lakes/surrounding ocean.
VI. There is a very well developed railway network throughout the region.
VII. They have a professional hockey league :p
That is all.

That would be funny if they put that in the game, but if they do, it will most likely just be an opposing trainer theme. HOCKEY PLAYER WHAT'S-HIS-NAME wants to battle!

1. If it's connected to Honshu (Hoenn right?)..groan that might mean Hoenn will be back.
2. As seen by the region map in the scan, looks like some ponds.
3. Volcanos? Doesnt suprise me.
4. I hope they include these islands
5. Cool
6. Looks like that too, as speculated by someone else. cool
7. Meh, maybe we can play Pokehockey! lol.

Nice info.

The gym traps would be ice-based with the leader using ice and fighting types. BTW, if you need to ask why fighting types, you don't know hockey. lol
Maybe that could be a new type combo. Ice-Fighting.

that is in no way confirmed, it could happen, not saying its likely but it is not impossible.

the pokemon world =/= Japan
it is based on but a different take on it.

And as far as I remember Hoenn's is still not specified.

sdp, Hoenn IS Kyushu. Look at the map of Hoenn in the game. Turn the DS/GBA sideways and you will see that the map correlates. It isn't mentionedd because it is glaringly obvious. Hoenn is Kyushu sideways. Proof's in the game and the maps too.
