Slaking theory...

you

Barbed
I have a theory about slaking....it all started with my brother...he puts hyper beam on evreything...ive tried explaining how pointless it is and how hyper beam is a bad choice and return or double edge is better...but he never listens...so one day i noticed he had hyper beam on slaking and this got me thinking...surely hyper beam makes sense on a pokemon thats going to be "loafing around" next turn anyway...and with his massive attack power and STAB he can do a lot of damage...was just wondering what other people think of this and if this has been brought up, and possibly been proven a bad theory and choice, before...

NOTE: of course the hyper beam idea wont work with skill swap...

it sounds good...but you may want to have slaking switch on the turn it is loafing around. I think it would be good in-game but competively, not so much

I already thought of that

ah yea somehow i totally forgot that you may need to switch....that is a major downside...pretty much destroys the whole theory...

I usually use Slaking in Double Battles. Togetic is usually his partner(follow me, then I use Bulk Up wit Slaking), sometimes Slowking tho, since he can learn Skill Swap and is pretty hard to take down.

I also Batton Pass to Slaking sometimes, Gorebyss uses Agility once, and Calm Mind/Iron Defense a few times, then BOOM!! Seemingly unstoppable Slaking.

Slaking has the stats of an uber. In Battle Pyramid it will massacre anything in its path. with one of the highest attacks in the whole game, with STAB Double Edge it is ownage.

vigoroth is such an inferior. Hyper beam isn't that great an idea, if used with Choice band I'm pretty sure it OHKOs anything that isn't Metagross/Steelix/some Other steel but it has max 8/8 pp which is annoying. This means you pretty much have to OHKO everything and if using Choice band, after 8 attacks, its struggle

So Slaking is automatically worse than Vigoroth just because of that? What, is something gonna OHKO it while it's loafing around? Not likely. Slaking has enough defense to take whatever is thrown at it, then OHKO the opponent next turn, so long as its name isn't Metagross/Steelix/whatever.

Really, though, this was thought of a LONG time ago. Sorry :(.

I use hyperbeam alot, as a last resort only. But it really doesn`t matter, your ganna skip a turn either way.

Arriving glacially.
Anyone who says Vigoroth is better than Slaking in ANYWAY(with the exception of their traits) should stop posting right now. Seriously, u will get flamed.

Anyways, like someone stated before, Slaking has the stats of an uber. The only thing stopping it from being classified as an uber is its trait. Hyper Beam on Slaking isn't good cuz u will most likely have to switch on the turn that you recharge. Besides, you just don't need all that power. IMO, Return is better than Double-Edge cuz Double-Edge will really take a wack at Slaking's HP, which is bad for him, since he has no means of recovering HP(unless you're ingame). i was gonna put more, but I forgot what i was gonna say :(

since its ohko anyway, who cares if it takes a little damage. Unless you are talking about in-game not frontier. if its level is quite high, I'd do double edge (in-game)

plus to counter the damage slightly, you could give it leftovers.

Or I guess return is good too, with choice band. something like 200 base due to stab and cb's 1.5 boost

*still ponders how people can have the patience to wait a full turn with Slakoth/Slaking out* That's exactly why I'd pick Vigoroth if I had to. That's why Hyper Beam is a move I never use. That's why I hate Dive and only have Fly on because I need to Fly, and why I put Slakoth back in its box as soon as I realized what its ability was. I know. I'm a bad girl. xD Flame me for prefering speed.

Although I used to love Fly. Until Sky Uppercut slammed me right out the air, killed it, made me lose the battle, and traumatized me for the rest of my Pokemonlife. 0_0

That was off-topic.

Anyway. Slaking and Hyper Beam. I think someone else suggested it, but I'd really prefer the Double-Edge strategy with Slaking. And Rest. Otherwise I'll get too paranoid and afraid of him fainting on me. (this is why I love my Steelix' Rock Head. Can't wait to have him learn Double Edge.. Just to enjoy the cruelty of it. xD).

STAB multiplies the attack power by 1.5.

Example: Earthquake, when STABbed, becomes 150, because 100 x 1.5 is 150.

An uber is a powerful Pokemon. I think uber means super in German or some language.

It's a good theory, but I don't think it will work. But I want to know- is there anything good about Slakings ability (The name escapes me)?

Hyper Beam can actually be pretty good if used properly. Especially if you're finishing off the last pokemon.

Black Knight, you explained what STAB does but not when it applies.

STAB = Same Type Attack Bonus. if a pokemon uses an attack of the same type as itself, it's more powerful (by 1.5)

Slaking could of became the most deadiest pokemon of them all if he only was able to learn one move (skill swap) but it still pwns in double battles if your partner has skill swap.
