too many thread about this

people with common senses' answer = no

people with little experiences' answer = yes

now proof it is stupid

Slaking used Hyper Beam!
pokemon died

person brought it medicham

oh ****, slaking can't switch

Medicham used Brick Break
Slaking died

------------------------------------------------------------------

Slaking used return/double-edge
pokemon died

person brought out medicham

salking switched to salamence

medicham used brick break (45% damage)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

expect a thread of about 20 in-experienced people saying hyper beam > return, wth no proof of this what-so-ever, while i have proof it sucks compared to return/DE

if hyper beam actually OHKO'd suicune/weezing, then it would be slightly usable, but the side effect of not being able to switch will mean you are highly likely to get killed next turn

TBH, Hyper Beam is one of those moves best left alone. Yeah, Slaking might get STAB for the move, setting it to a base damage of 225 (correct me if I'm wrong there)

However that damage is basically divided over two turns, as your second turn is spent recovering from the attack (or in Slaking's case, truanting :D), which leaves the damage output at 112.5 per turn. A STAB'd Return/Body Slam would be better in this case (153 and 120 damage per turn each)

Though in all honesty, Slaking IS probably the most viable Pokemon to use Hyper Beam on... its base stats put it in the same tier as Mewtwo and Kyogre, don't they?

Return>Hyper Beam always.

but who uses Sharpedo?
I use Sharpedo. D: (not joking)

anyways, Hyper Beam isn't a good choice like you all said. You're better off with Return. :/ You can switch, and that's always a nice option.

Maybe Slaking will not die that easy from a Brick Break.

PS: Hyper Beam works if you are battling the last trainers pokémon, doesn't it?

Medicham has Pure Power...

Stop using situational stuff. Return over Hyper Beam always.

max attack medicham has 240 attack

add it's trait, pure power, = 480 attack

add choice band = 720 attack

add stab to brick break and also a super effective hit = 225 power

720 attack + 225 base power attack

yeah i think that'll just about ko

(it would actually ko slaking twice over iirc)

Not even close.

Maximum Attack and +Attack Nature Medicham Brick Break on 236 Defense/442 HP Slaking (0 Def EVs/4 HP EVs):

112% - 132% Damage (495 ~ 582)

Return>>>>Horrid Beam ALWAYS.

CBPidge is only barely worth using HB, and that's only for suicide.
If someone Nebattled a HBKing, They would faint...from LOLing. That is, of course, after the Slaking died from the situations posted above. Whatever Hyper beam needs to take out, Return probably will KO it or still do a hefty chunk of damage while still being able to switch out on the next turn. HB could KO the threat, but CBCham would still KO the Slaking. Add low PP and you will find out

Return>Hyper Beam.

The only other poke you'd even REMOTELY think of using HB on is Tauros, but that's cause its movepool is ****. So yeah, don't use it.

No one would even think about using it period, let alone even thinking it'd be useful "Remotely" on Taurus. Awful idea D:

CBCham, anyone? The only Generation where HB was remotely useful was RBY, because the next non-sploding strongest normal move was Body slam.

no the reason it was useful in rby was;

after a ko, there was no re-charge turn
after breaking a sub, there was no re-charge turn
