Smash Brothers for Nintendo Switch (and others)

Excitable Boy

is a metaphor
I think both Snake and Ryu are kinda oddballs.

that's kinda the whole point of their appeal, though

Snake was originally intended as a the sole third-party crashing the Nintendo first-party with his serious weaponry and his gruff 'n' grizzled David Hayter voice trying to wrap his head around the wackiness of the Nintendo roster

Ryu, by virtue of being a standard ol' regular fighting game character, contrasts the rest of the roster who are anything but

Sure Ryu is a widely known character, but I am 100% sure the only reason he's DLC is the fact that it's Namco and Capcom.

well, Smash wouldn't exist without SF

I mean, really, a good chunk of the Smash 64 roster is just ripping off SF archetypes

The music of the dreamland stage are awesome! Especially the FoD one (it returns!). I'm gonna maxed all those songs!

Forest Stage (Air Ride? Remix?)
Pop Star (Crystal Shards)
World to Win (Triple Deluxe)
Ice Cream Islands (Remix, Adventure)
Dream Land (Gourmet Race remix, Smash 64)
Fountain of Dreams

very solid selection. I'm guessing the 3ds version will use Dream Land (obviously) and Forest Stage

I wonder where the 2 Rhythm Heaven songs will go. Miiverse, I guess? Seems like a weird place to put them, though. And I doubt it's for a 3ds exclusive stage since neither are a remix (though Blue Birds might have had an extension?) and 3ds not getting Suzaku Castle would be weird.
Maybe they're placeholders for a future Rhythm Heaven stage, that'd be nice.

I assumed that the Rhythm Heaven songs would just be on Dream Land. Monkey Watch especially fits with it. The Miiverse songs have all been on the disc from day one, right?

Still waiting for Lonely Storm, Air Rally, Struck by the Rain and Lockstep, though. Also Donk-Donk, Manzai Birds, Tap Troupe, Rhythm Rally, Young Love Rock'n'Roll, I Love You, My One and Only, Beautiful One Day...

Why DID it take them so long to add even a single song from Nintendo's rhythm game series?

I thought so to at first, but then I noticed that Suzaku Castle really only has 6 songs (Ryu Remix, Ryu Arcade, Ryu SNES, Ken Remix, Ken Arcade, Ken SNES). The "panic" versions are likely just sped up variants of the other songs that play in a similar way to the old mario stage songs when the timer got low.
And then if you take away the RH songs, Drealand 64 also has 6 songs. So why add an additional 2 straight rips of songs of an entirely different series to a DLC stage

Rhythm Heaven's handling in general is a little eye brow raising. We know from the datamine that it was going to get a character (confirmed even moreso by the Sneaky Spirit enemy) and that it was going to get a stage and by extension music. And instead it...didn't get a character, didn't get a stage, didn't get a remix, didn't even get a song rip. It got a suddenly out of place enemy and some trophies.
Style Savvy got a remix before Rhythm Heaven got a song at all.
I'm not sure what would be more eyebrow raising, shoving these songs onto Miiverse or Dreamland.

I guess what I'm getting at is the more I think about it the more it feels like these are just placeholders for a future RH stage.

Certainly I'd like the idea of a RH stage, though I'm still hoping in vain they make Karate Joe a playable character after failing to add what I assume is probably the Chorus Kids. I still think it's easily possible for the songs to be on Dream Land. Off the top of my head, I know that Kalos League has 14 tracks available, so 8 is certainly plausible.

It's disappointing to see how little love the series gets, given that it's actually a decently selling series (I know Rhythm Heaven DS apparently sold 3 times as many copies as any Mother game, for example).

Ryu appears to have his Street Fighter jump physics, which is going to make him rather awkward to control.

Essentially, once you jump, you're committed to whatever direction you're heading in, and can't change your trajectory in any way other then using a special (Or a double jump, in the case of Smash Bros). This has the negative effect of making your aerial movement rather predictable, but it's probably a balancing factor considering that Ryu seems comparable to Little Mac in terms of how much speed and power he has.

Did the leaks have anything on balance patches by any chance or did no one check?

Pop Star (Crystal Shards)
World to Win (Triple Deluxe)
Ice Cream Islands (Remix, Adventure)
Dream Land (Gourmet Race remix, Smash 64)
Fountain of Dreams

I'm absolutely stoked about these two. Though, does anyone have a link for the Ice Cream Island remix? I'm curious to hear what it sounds like.

I had hoped the Boss Battle theme from Triple Deluxe (or at least Moonstruck Blossom), as well as themes like the Boss Battle theme, Super Ability theme and Magolor Battle theme all from Return to Dream Land would be in the game, but thank god we at least got the Fountain of Dreams theme!

Yeah but DLC I imagine would want to be more standardized in what you get

oh well, we'll see in like an hour and a half

just search nintendo e3 and it's the first or second result.

I'm happy that i didn't see any of the trailers. I'm very excited for them. As for these 2 not being in the ballot, it will make people who voted for these two to change their votes. There's still a long time before it closes and as the DLC characters are revealed, people change their votes and boost some of the front runners. To me, while i didn't vote for him, i think the best addition to smash would be k. rool.

Now that Roy will be released today, I wonder what Sakurai has planned for the Fire Emblem concert. Personally, I'd be happy if he announced a Mii Fighter costume based on the avatars from FE:if. I'd also love to see an outfit based on Chrom announced too.

I doubt Roy will be released today. Revealed, probably, but released? Highly unlikely.

Hyrule Castle and Peach's Castle from 64 are coming to DLC!

Also, Lucas and Mewtwo will get amiibos of their own.
