And Yoshi has his friend Pichu back too. I've always considered the two pals given that Yoshi is good with babies.

    Could have been worse.

They could have made it use Night Shade for some reason. Still don't know why Zoroark uses...Slash and not Night Daze.

btw, it got kind of lost in the shuffle yesterday, but it sounds like there is a hazard toggle.

It was noticed yesterday in the Invitational that Great Plataeu wasn't destroyed, Saffron City never opened its door & the Frigate Orpheon never flipped around. There was an easy to miss quip from the announcer about turning hazards off, but, again, a tournament environment it's hard to pick up on everything. Nairo seemed to confirm later in a youtube stream that they did, indeed, have the option to turn the hazards off.

Not entirely. He's often been grouped with Mario despite having his own icon. This is evident in the select screens of both Brawl and SSB4. It seems they are finally making it explicitly evident that Yoshi is a stand alone character, rather than a mere sidekick. It pleases me to see it.

That's just awesome. It adds even more diversity to playing.

I think it'll be a lot fun to play these stages in all these different forms they have now. Counting out, I believe there are four: Standard, Hazardless, Battlefield, and Omega.

One thing I'd like to see is unique team victory animations. These can be done for characters with canon relationships and some non-canon ones too like the Subspace Emissary. I'd like to see Yoshi and Pichu have animations together.

Is it that important to single out a character that's extremely more attached to the franchise it was born from.

Battlefield form should be called Alpha as that word is a good complement to Omega.

What new stages do you guys want to see? I personally want Mt. Kihulana with the Pokémon League building in the background and you fight outside while it is snowing, Ancient Cistern from Skyward Sword, President Haltmann’s office with Haltman and Susie occasionally serving as stage hazards, Casino Nights Zone from Sonic the Hedgehog 2, a stage based on one of the Pokémon Pinball games, Altar of the Sunne and Moon with a warp hole alternating the time of day occasionally, Ultra Space Wormhole, And the Planet you fight Galacta Knight in Kirby Super Star Ultra.

If Dark Samus gets in as a playable character, I think that they might put in a Prime 2 stage to go along with her.

I think she will become her own character to help build up hype for Prime 4. Smash Bros does this all the time and Ultimate is no different. Bayonetta will get players psyched for the third game, Mega Man will encourage sales of Mega Man 11 on the Switch plus each Collection, and FE will get sales from which ever new rep they put in the game.

I like some of the Final Smashes in the new Smash game especially with Ness's other companions appearing in PK Starstorm and the same goes for Lucas's companions. I also like the fact Dedede can become Masked Dedede in his Final Smash.

He's the only main part member not in the game now

If they're including a stage to go along with Dark Samus, I think it'll be either Sky Temple Gateway or Phaaze. Frankly I'd rather see the latter, it'd be a more interesting location.

I want Tourian from the original Metroid to be a stage with a medley of music tracks ripped from the original Metroid

I feel like, in the scenario we get Ridley AND Dark Samus as playable characters, Ridley should be the one with the stage (one of his battle arenas, specifically) over Dark Samus
Which is to say I'm not holding my breath since if there was going to be a new metroid stage it prrrrrobably would have been in Ridley's trailer (since unlike Inklings he got gameplay footage) or his little trailer on the site (where new donk was shown).

In general, I doubt there will be many actually new stages. Same as with the character roster, the focus seems to have been on bringing back as many stages as possible (the count is now to like...78 past stages + usual Battlefield & Final Destination + 3 new stages) to make this as much an ultimate experience as possible. Which is probably also why the bulk of them have gotten significant graphical overhauls, too.

I doubt we'll get a new FE rep until DLC hits. Considering the new FE game releases in 2019, we'll likely be seeing another Corrin scenario.

I also doubt we'll get Dark Samus playable. She was fine as an assist trophy and considering we got Ridley I really don't think we're getting another Metroid rep. From the sounds of it, newcomers aren't going to be numerous this time, so I'm sure they'll want to give reps to other games represented.

Also we're totally getting an ARMs fighter, unless for some reason they decided to pass on that, which would be weird.

I'm still laughing about the immediate deconfirm on Waluigi. What makes it even better is that he was the one to show off the whole "Assist's can be KO'd" thing.

    Auraninja I'm ready to Smash

I wonder how many new characters we will get if Sakurai said for us to not expect new fighters.

The amount of newcomers per each sequel was.

    Melee: 14 (Zelda/Sheik separate)
    Brawl: 18 (Pokemon Trainer separated)
    3DS/Wii U: 17 (Base Roster/Including Echoes)
    " "+ DLC: 21

I can see something like 11 new characters. Right now, we have 3 (including Daisy).

    Erron Black The Pretender

That's what I think as well.

They did a lot of redesign/tuning on a LOT of previous characters, so I'm thinking somewhere along the lines of 8 to 11-ish.

Thinking anything less than or more than those numbers is either wishful thinking or lowering your expectations a bit much imo. Especially with the amount of games and characters that have come out in the short span of 4 years.

Genuinely new characters, I doubt there will be any more than 2-3 beyond Ridley and Inkling. It's a tall order to created 70+ individually unique movekits and balance them across the spectrum, so if they can avoid it, they will.

Echo Characters are a different story. Lucina, Doc, and Dark Pit were given playable status in Smash 4 with comparatively minimal effort, so if they follow their procedure with those three in this game, then the opportunity opens up during development.

Like, making Dark Samus an Echo Fighter would theoretically be simple. She can have the same physics as Samus and an identical movekit at its core, and all they would need to do would be to give her specials and Smash attacks some kind of scattershot property to go along with it since scattershot was her big thing in her boss fights, thus making her a much weaker, but more ranged fighter. A little bit more effort than Dark Pit's arrows and Electroshock, but it follows a similar criteria.

Intentionally designating these types of characters with a unique moniker means people are now anticipating a good bunch them in this game, so to stop at Daisy would feel like a cop-out. Dark Samus, Shadow, Blood Falcon, Masked Man, Big Boss, Zack, they can do a lot of characters with minimal manpower and get only goodwill and cheers in the end for doing so.
