Smoking laws.

Do you think that the smoking laws are strict enough. I'm talking about America, because I don't know about what it's like in the rest of the world. People have the right to enjoy a cigarette outside, but people also have the right to enjoy clean air.

The government taxes the sale of cigarettes. That's why we still have them around, so they can make a profit.

I think they ought to be stricter. Tobacco is harmful, it dosent harm just the smoker but the people around them due to secondhand smoke, it is polluting and does nothing to benefit you.

Smoking should be banned in ALL public places, not have designated sections.

This.

I also think that people should not be allowed to smoke in their cars. Not only is it a safety hazard but the sheer amount of second-hand smoke which builds up is ridiculous and anyone who does not smoke, children especially, should not have to put up with it.

Smoking should be done at home or out in the streets.

At home? If there are kids or other non-smokers at home, that shouldn't happen either. Then again, if there are no kids at home, why would there be kids in the car? Kidnapping? I don't think someone being kidnapped is going to care much about secondhand smoke.

I absolutely hate having to put up with second-hand smoke though. Plus I don't want it to kill my family members who do it.

Which are public places.

But what about a person's liberties?

So no smoking in public places but we will not bann the production of them. This is bad comody. Smoking can not be stoped until it can not be made, And prohobition has shown how well that works. You want to outlaw them in public building is one thing but you have no chance of enforcing it any more then that.

Personally, I like the designated smoking area idea. Then again, I haven't been to a place where they actually enforce this. Speaking in terms about public places like the street or the beach or something like that you can simply move away if you don't like the smoke. That's what I do at least.

As for making the laws stricter, well, I'm indifferent as to whether or not they should become stricter or not. I can't really take a position but I guess I'm leaning more towards stricter laws only because smoking has harmful effects on people who don't smoke at all.

I agree with all those who say smoking should be banned in all public places, its only fair. Innocent Non-smokers do not need to inhale the toxins that put them in danger for just walking or being in an area.

I smoke my joint under my house to protect people from the smoke (y)

I think it's fair game to smoke in an outside, public designated smoking area. If you don't want to inhale the secondhand smoke, don't go in that area. Smoking should also be allowed in bars at the owner's discretion.

Yes, the laws are strict enough. It's better to reroute something you think is unsavory or immoral than it is to stomp it out.

It's better for the family for any smoker to smoke outside the house, in the yard (or what passes for the yard in some places) instead of filling the house with smoke.

I'd like to see fines for the ***-holes who throw their butts where ever they damn well please. Especially when there are designated receptacles right there.

I'd also like to see private business owners such as restaurants be given back the power to allow or ban smoking in their establishments. Mandate proper smoking sections if you have to but its not like any person is forcing any other to eat at a bar/tavern and endure the smokey atmosphere. I don't particularly want to breathe smoke in while I'm eating but it annoys me private businesses don't get to choose.

On the flip side I'd like to see current regulations enforced more. I believe you have to be 20 or so feet from an entrance/exit before you can smoke. I never see this enforced and it annoys me that I can walk out of pretty much any building on campus into a cloud of smoke.

People will just bootleg cigarettes then. We need make it a misdemeanor to be caught smoking.

Awhile back, I was waiting for the bus. This guy comes to the small enclosed shelter, pulls out a cigarette and lights up. He didn't even try to blow his smoke outside, just did it straight at me until I left. The next few days, he did it again.

You might have the right to enjoy a smoke, but you do NOT right to cause health problems for anyone else for any reason.

I very much truthfully believe that if you're smoking anywhere, and it's causing problems for anyone else, you should be, by law, required to put at least twenty feet of distance between you and them.

As a child my mom was a pack a day smoker. she died at age 81, my wife just recently smoked almost 2 packs a day. I have smoked maybe 20 cigarettes in my life, I have great lungs & I don't understand why people need to get up in every ones business.

They should be banned altogether.

People still have the right to smoke if they want.

Not everyone is going to die at 30, let alone get lung cancer. You have a higher risk if you do smoke, but cigarettes aren't going reduce your lifespan by a month every time you smoke one.

Smoking is horrible and is like committing suicide over time. My dad used to work in the cardiovascular unit of the hospital in my town, and he took care of smokers that ruined their heart, lung, and overall health. Banning smoking would seem good, but then there might be bootlegging and other crimes to get cigarrettes.
