To become champion, don't you need to win the league first? What, leagues are monthly events now? How much time between BW and now?
Perhaps she won the league perhaps she didn’t. It’s not really established in the games that you must collect badges to become a Champion (which in the anime leads to you competing in leagues). Virgil won the Unova league but Alder was this the Champion.

Champions in Pokemon are nowadays like base Super Saiyans in Dragon Ball, simply not impressive anymore.

The anime has never really explained how you become a regional champion. I think the closest they've ever come is in DP when Cynthia talked about a Champions League that happens after the regular league.

Yeah, and honestly it’s not unfathomable that each region has its own set of rules. Lance was once Champion and now he’s E4 with no real explanation
