back.
Well, you must be about 5...or young-ish. Digimon is an old show about 8 kids who get transported to a digital world with monsters who "digivolve" and must use one digimon to protect the world (or at least that was the first season)

We have this guy. He enjoys punching stuff.

And there's this guy. He's a complete perfectionist jackass.

And then there's What's-Her-Face. She's useless, and I couldn't find a picture of her.

Yes, tell them about Savers, the currently Japan only series.

Okay, I'll summarise the genrality of all the series:-

Digimon are beings from an alternate world. The Digital World. It's creation and basis of existance changes from series, though 9/10, it's made of data from our Internet, and connected to it somehow.

The series follow the adventures of a group of 6-15 year olds, with adults for the occasional bit of originality(Savers stars an eighteen year old).

These people are called Digidestined, and always have some form of Digivice, as well as, bar the fourth series, a Digimon partner. In the fourth series, the Digidestined become the Digimon.

The Digivices allow for Digivolution, which allows the partner Digimon, or human in Frontier, to advance a level, from Rookie, to Champion, then Ultimate, then Mega and onward in some cases. In Japan, it goes Child, Adult, Perfect, Ultimate, Super Ultimate, and in Frontier, Pico, Human, Beast, Fusion, Union, Susanoomon(Only Digimon that high a level).

The basic plot boiled down is either the Digital or Human Worlds are in danger, and these people by some twist of fate are chosen to save it(hence Digidestined). They defeat various evil Digimon, make alliances with other Digimon, and thene eventually an even bigger twist leads to both the Digital and Human world's being threatened. By this time we know of, or are getting close to, discovering the uber evil Digimon of the series in question. Then, through teamwork, the final badguy is usually defeated by the strongest Digimon of the group, typically involving the main character's Digimon's Mega/Ultimate form.

The series are as follows, with characters and main partner Digimon in brackets:
Digimon: Adventure 01(Tai, Matt, Sora, Izzy, Mimi, Joe, TK, Kari, Agumon, Gabumon, Biyomon, Tentomon, Palmon, Gomamon, Patamon and Gatomon)
Digimon: Adventure 02(All of the above plus Davis, Yolei, Kody, Ken, Veemon, Hawkmon, Armadillomon and Wormon. There's also more Digidestined fro around the world, but they're not too key to the series until near the end)
Digimon: Tamers(Takato, Rika, Henry, Jeri, three other guys, Henry's little sister, two toddlers, Guilmon, Renamon, Terriermon, Leomon, Cyberdramon, Guardramon, MarineAngemon, Lopmon and Impmon)
Digimon: Frontier(Takeru, Kouji, Izumi, heftily built kid, young kid with big hat, Kouchi, Agunimon, Lobomon, Kazemon, Beetlemon, Kumamon and Lowemon)
Digimon: Savers(Maseru, blonde guy from above, girl, ninja kid, Maseru's sister, boss guy, two tech workers, Agumon, Gaomon, Raramon, Falcomon, Biyomon, Kudamon, BlackPawnChessmon, WhitePawnChessmon)

Thats only for Season 5, Digimon Savors.

THere are 4 others besides it. Digimon Adventures, Digimon Adventures 02 (Often just called 02), Digimon Tamers and Digimon Fronteir. Digimon Fronteir detailed the adventures of the first Digidestende, Tai, Matt, TK, Sora, Izzy, Joe, Mimi, and Kari. 02 was the second part, dealing with New Digidestened, Davis, Yolei, Cody, and TK and Kari when they were teenagers, the other five from the first series still showed up.

Tamers delt with kids in the Real world, Takato, Henry and RIka, who got Digimon and helped save the Real world from a Digital Invasion.

Fronteir, Well, I neverwatched it so >>

Also Wikipedia is your friend

So, you've never seen an episode, but you've seen an episode. Bwah?

Anyway, each series (or "season" in the US) is different. Here are some non-spoiler, non-in-depth summaries.

In the first series, seven children are transported to the Digital World, where each of them meets a Digimon friend. They must find a way to save the Digital World from evil and get home, all while working together with their Digimon friends and getting stronger. The second series is closely related to the first. It includes the same cast of characters, while adding four new people to the list of protagonists. The plot's pretty much the same, as the kids must once again save the Digital World from evil, but this time, their own world is in just as much trouble.

The third series (and my favorite) revolves around a new cast of characters, and in the world they live in, Digimon is just a card game that children like to play. By fate, three children actually recieve real-live Digimon of their own, but when evil Digimon start appearing in Japan, the three children must work together with their Digimon to defeat them. Unlike the first two shows, in which the children were almost always in the Digital World, this series takes place in both worlds equally.

In the forth series, five new children are transported (or travel to, for lack of a better term) to the Digital world, but this time, instead of having Digimon partners to work with, the children must transform into Digimon themselves, and save the Digital World from evil while trying to get home. With the exception of the last 1 1/2 episodes, this series takes place in the Digital World only.

There's also a fifth series, but it has yet to be dubbed outside of Japan.

The nice thing about Digimon is that you don't have to watch since the first Digmon season to understand what is happening in season 3, 4 or 5.

I personally enjoyed Tamers the best due to the plot, but Renamon and Sakuyamon are two of my favorite Digimon. Frontier was ok(I had to admit that I did like the dub theme song) and, as I'm sure Savers will be brought to the US one way or another.

...NINE-THOUSAND!!!!
let's not forget the movie Digimon: X Evolution, although it has never been aired outside of Japan and cyberspace

it is in full 3D, and has an entire story of its own, without humans, the main character is named Dorumon, and that's about all I can say without spoiling anything

Is it really that hard to use Google? :/
Meg, you should know that if the folks here can't work the Search function, then Google is years ahead of their time.

Anywho, the only two series' that connect to eachother are Digimon Adventure and Digimon Zero Two. The rest have their own places and don't take part in the same universe as the others.

Although one character who makes a first animated appearance in a Digimon Adventure movie ends up appearing in the first three series', though plays a major role in the third throws the whole thing into one big mess of confusion.

And for further reference, Digimon does not "rip off" Pokemon, just in case you may ask. :p

Yeah! Kiss her Now!
Digimon is short for Digital Monsters. They are creatures created from bits and peices of lost computer data, living within electronics.

They have attributes which give them there uniqueness, attacks, and so on. There are four attribute classifications of Digimon: Data, Vaccine, Virus, and the newest, Variable.

Digimon start as DigiEggs and evolve, or Digivolve, throughout their lives. The more data the Digimon gains, the higher the Digimon Digivolves, and the more powerful it becomes.

Each Digimon has a type that describes them. There are many diffrent types-- too many to list. Some common types include Android, Insectoid, Evil, Angel, Animal, and Vegetation type Digimon.

Each Digimon has special and unique attacks. They use these attacks to aid in their survival. Most Digimon have atleast two special attacks.

As electronics continue to grow and evolve, so does the Digital World and its inhabitants. New Digimon and Digimon types are constantly being discovered.

Digimon seasons:

Season 1: Seven kids at summer camp are unexpectedly transported by "digivices" to a colorful and enigmatic world. Lost and alone, they are befriended by small digital monsters, Digimon. The kids and their Digimon partners quickly become inseparable, and the little creatures guide their human friends through the wondrous DigiWorld, protecting them from the hordes of evil Digimon.

The group soon discovers that some of the giant Digimon they encounter are not evil Digimon but good Digimon gone bad. A dark power is corrupting even the most gentle of Digimon by embedding Black Gears into them, turning them into vicious monsters. Creating chaos and destruction wherever it goes, the evil power threatens all of DigiWorld.

As they try to find their way back home, the seven kids are drawn further and further into the mystery. Through teamwork and trust, they help their newfound Digimon friends digivolve from "monsters in training" to giant champions that must save the DigiWorld from the powerful evil intent on destroying it. With an unbreakable bond between them, the kids and their Digimon companions embark on the adventure of a lifetime!

Season 2:TK and Kari, former Digidestineds receive an e-mail from Tai, Kari's big brother, telling them to come to the DigiWorld. Tai finds the DigiEgg of Courage and trys to lift it, unsuccessfully. Three new Digivice emerge and fall into the hands of Yolei, Cody, and Davis in the Real World. Now it's Tk, Kari, and the 3 new Digidestined's turn to fight away the evil that threatens the DigiWorld by fining new DigiEggs to help their newly discovered Digi Partners!

season three: Forget everything you know about Digimon…this time it's for real!

With three new kids and four new Digimon, the all new season of Digimon: Digital Monsters has more excitement, action, and adventure than ever before!

Takato has grown up watching Tai, Davis, and all the other DigiDestined on the Digimon: Digital Monsters television show and playing the card game. Imagine his surprise when he accidentally creates his own Digimon, Guilmon, in the real world! He's not the only kid in town with a Digimon, though…

Henry and Terriermon quickly befriend Takato and Guilmon, but making friends with Rika and Renamon is a different story. Rika believes that Digimon are in the real world for only one purpose: to fight other Digimon. When a strange dimension is formed between Earth and the Digital World, however, these three kids must put aside their differences to battle the strongest digital monsters ever!

All new heroes and monsters mean all new rules…like digivolving in the real world can be disastrous without the help of an orphan Digimon, Calumon. Also, a mysterious government agency called Hypnos has been tracking Digimon activity. With unclear motives, Hypnos could be out to protect the Digimon or destroy them completely!

Season 4:Long ago, the Digital World was guarded by the legendary Warrior Ten. Now, their spirits are rising again...

Long ago, The Digital World used to live in peace, guarded by the legendary Warrior Ten. When a corrupt Digimon, Lucemon, tried to rise up and control the world, the Warrior Ten fought valiantly to seal him away. Greatly weakened by the battle, each of the Warrior Ten died. Their spirits were passed on to three holy angel Digimon; Seraphimon, Ophanimon, and Cherubimon. They were to rule the Digital World.

The Digital World once again lived in peace, until Cherubimon revolted against his allies. Cherubimon felt, being a beast type, Seraphimon and Ophanimon looked down on him. He took his five Spirits (Darkness, Steel, Water, Earth, and Wood) and created his army.

Cherubimon sealed away Seraphimon and locked Ophanimon away in his castle while his army of Hybrids collected data, by destroying the Digital World, in hope of resurrecting Lucemon.

Ophanimon calls for help by sending messages to kids' cell phones, instructing them to go to the Digital World. Ophanimon picks 5 of these children (Takuya, Koji, J.P., Zoe, and Tommy) to inherit the spirits Ophanimon and Seraphimon were given to transform into Digimon and become Legendary Warriors! With these 5 chosen children, will they be able to stop Cherubimon's 5 evil Legendary Warriors or will Lucemon rise again to rule the Digital World?

Season 5: Masaru, a 14 year old who loves to fight, unexpectedly happens upon an Agumon who has just escaped from the government organization known as DATS. Masaru and Agumon challenge each other to a fight and find they're both equally matched. After befriending each other, Agumon and Masaru are able to defeat a rampaging Digimon through the use of Masaru's DigiSoul, allowing Agumon to Digivolve.

The leader of DATS sees Masaru and Agumon's strength and drafts them onto his active team, along with current members Yoshino, Raramon, Tohma, and Gaomon. It is discovered that the wall between the Digital World and the real world is beginning to deteriorate, and Digimon are appearing in the real world. It is now DATS duty to protect the real world from these Digimon, while trying to find the reason behind the deteriorating barrier.

That is all you need to now right now I'll edit this later when my hands are a wake again.

PS I think this my longest post ever.

Well, Saturday night, I saw an episode two times. It was from the Tamers season, because It had a kid takado, and his digimon guilmon. guilmon digivolved into G__mon(forgot name.) and his friend, who had terriermon, had to help him de digivolve him. Impmon was there too, not helping them. and at the end, a digital rainbow dedigivolved G___mon back into gillmon. I know some digimon, and I'm not 5. I've just never seen the show but I want to start. I just want to know what has happened in the season, what they have acomplished, stuff like that.

Meh..
I don't like Digimon..
Besides, they copied the idea from pokemon.
>.<
1. Other than the mon in their names and the fact that they both have creatures that battle in them, they are nothing alike.

2. Using this logic, Pokemon must have copied Digimon, since Digimon has been around since 1977 as a type of toy similar to Tamagotchi.

You mean 1997. >_>; Work began on the Digimon keychains in 1995.

Digimon is shortened just like Pokemon is simply for the fact of not having to say "Digital Monsters" over and over again. Also, copyrights prevented Pokemon from being called its full name in the US. Monster in My Pocket prevented the usage of Pocket Monsters in the US.

Either way, the two are HARDLY close to being related in any way at all. Mightymole, I'm inclined to believe you've never even seen a single series of the franchise.
