On the route next to the desert, there's an old woman who will heal your Pokemon. But why the hell is she so creepy? She encourages you feverently to come take a rest, and then asks if you want another one right after, even though there would clearly be no need, and the default answer is yes. I've checked time and time again to see if any money was missing after resting, but I haven't found a thing. Is there a dark secret to this rest house, or is it really just an innocent place to heal?

-_- It's a thievery chamber. She takes your pokemon when you're sleeping. She takes the first one out of box 1 of your pc. You never realized that? -_-

i'm not sure there's any hidden dark secret, probably just some connections to real life. on my ruby, though, i've noticed if i do pick the yes option, i think i saw more trainers on my trainer's eyes who want to battle me. i'm not sure.

EDIT: sorry, Locke beat me to it.

I'm pretty sure that rebattles in Trainer's Eyes have something to do with walking around their route, but I'm not sure.

to tell you the truth, i'm pretty gullible on those kind of stuff, and i never noticed. anyway, i don't care. all of the pokemon in my first six boxes are useless.

EDIT: is there any way to get rid of the thievery?

It could just be there to make you think.

IRL you'd never just rest at a weird old lady's house, would you? And then there's the fact that she's so eager for you to stay ...

Make your own conclusions.

I think she's lonely. There's a chance nobody notices her there, and when you come in, she asks to heal your pokes more than once so you can stay longer.

I think the game designers integrated a wise thought into the game via the "creepy" old lady. Pokemon is a kind of game where you learn things other than TM numbers and names; you learn quite a lot of "moral messages" which are planted into the the things trainers say. The most obvious being "All dreams are but another reality. Never forget..." at Southern Island, but if you don't think about what you're reading, you miss many of them. The message the old lady is trying to get across is "don't be shy about something, speak your mind. Don't think it's being rude." And when she insists time after time you take another rest, well... they did that to give an example of the situation. "No thanks, old lady. I'd rather not take another rest."
...was that too serious, or is it just my imagination?

I think you might be onto something, Maxie. It's like the Pokemon games have moral lessons in them, but they're less overt and cheesy than in the TV show. Something actually meaningful? In a Pokemon game?! Le gasp!
