• Hi all
Just a notice, we recently discovered that someone got into a moderator account and started hard deleting a load of key and legacy threads...around 150 threads have been lost dating back to 2007 and some weeks ago so we can't roll the forums back.
Luckily no personal data could be accessed by this moderator, and we've altered the permissions so hard deleting isn't possible in the future
Sorry for any inconvenience with this and sorry for any lost posts.
  • Hi all. We had a couple of reports of people's signatures getting edited etc. in a bad way. You can rest assured this wasn't done by staff and nobody has compromised any of our databases.

However, remember to keep your passwords secure. If you use similar passwords to elsewhere which has been accessed, people and even bots may be able to access your account.

We always recommend using unique passwords, and two-factor authentication if you are able. Make sure you're as secure as possible

Some Changes to Posting

What spambots? I've never seen one yet. :/

Trust me, you dont want to see one.

Btw thanks serebii this will probably cut down a few of those spammers...

Miror o_O oh gosh. If only the spambots knew what he could do to them.

Great idea, Serebii. It makes a lot of sense, even though perhaps the limit should be broken at 20, but to have it at ten postcounts is like meeting in the middle, it's fair enough. So here's to hoping it'll work. I haven't seen too much since yesterday, but I suspect that within the next few days, the effect will be fully implemented, and we'll hardly notice the lack of spambots.

Though I swear that the spambots have a season. Like they get more prominent at certain times of the year... you know?

They are usually most active at times when bot owners think mods are away from forums - on Christmas holidays and in Summer.

Some spambots with less than 10 posts and haven't been registered for a month just posted links. Has this new rule taken effect yet?

that and there are times when mods actually are less active and thus dont get to them as quickly, such as during final exam times or when we're on vacations. we get a lot more spambots than the average forum user realizes because we try to delete their posts and ban their accounts as quickly as possible

I approve of this concept. It means less problems in the long run.

I think, even though new users may find this fraustrating, that it is better in the long run.
Spambots are super annoying and need combated.
Thanks Serebii

^ I agree with Ellie there, we have certain times of the year where some staff members are less active due to exams, holidays and such so spambots usually try to get on to avoid the mods.

Serebii did mention that it will take time for the new features to take effect but at least it means I won't have to go round reporting spambots to the mods as often as I did previously.

Basically, I have one big change to implement to have everything activated to protect it, but I'm holding off until next Sunday in case I accidentally break the forums, which is not the best thing to do before E3, CoroCoro and a big Smash episode

So no changes have currently taken place, am I right?

They are also more active at certain times of the day, I remember I was on at 4 am once and there were just spam posts EVERYWHERE, on some threads it was multiple pages long. I was surprised the mods actually cleaned it up by the time I got back on. So good job mods
