Sooner or Later - A journey worth living

Melodrama

Aim Towards Heaven
Well, here it is. While this is merely the prologue to my awaited story, I still hope that it may be a little worth reading. And here it is, my first fanfic on SPP.

Prologue ~ Calm Before the Storm

"I have already told you once, Paulo," the dark-haired, middle-aged man spoke, trying to keep his calm posture steady. "What makes you think there are 'gifted' ones in the Mount Moon area?"

"Sir, I am uncertain." the executive sighed. He thought deeply of an excuse to save him, but couldn't think of any. He then recalled what his boss said the "gifted" were: people blessed with telekietic abilities, whom his boss sought to help establish a new world order.

"Sirrah," the boss sighed, his slight Italian accent rolling. This was Giovanni Medici, head of the notorious Team Rocket. "Just forget it. New mission. Bring to me the youngest Elemental Master you can find. And while you're at it, avoid Team Aura as much as possible."

"Yes sir." Paulo saluted before he was dismissed, leaving Medici to himself. Sighing, he stood up from his desk and turned, gazing out the window without any content. He thought of the rumors of a young woman who had mastered the element of Ice at a younger age than the average of twenty years, and wondered if they were true.

Little known to Medici, the rumors were surprisingly true. A reject teenager in Vermillion City, this young woman had no idea about how to control her blessing, or curse, as she had called it at times. However, the question remains: can she save the world from the double threat of Team Rocket and Team Aura?

~~~
"Silence!" A rough German accent commanded a group of chattering people all clad in white robes. There was one, however, dressed in an elaborate golden and white robe which signified his importance over the others. This was Joseph Benedict, and he was the leader of the recently-formed Team Aura, whose goals were to eliminate sinners and the "gifted" ones alike. They considered both to be impure, as if they were work of the ultimate source of evil in the Pokemon world, which was simply a legend.
"Order in the meeting hall!" Benedict called again, sighing as the board room of his organization's headquarters fell to a dramatic silence. "Better. Now that I have your attention, I must state one thing: the 'gifted' are somehow now a dangerous breed. As you can see, some have even mastered the hellish trinity of Ice, Electricity, and Fire. Even one of those is apparently a sixteen year old!" Gasps fluttered and people murmured as a blonde-haired man, roughly half the age of Benedict, stood and soon took control of speaking.
"But as you all know, they will pose no threat as we eliminate them and the sinners," he stated, pausing to make a dramatic effect as more comments arose. "Especially the biggest sinners of all."
"Who they are?" A woman around the same age and almost a sibling to the young man spoke, also standing up with her colleague and boss. "Well, we have decided. All of the gym leaders, even Giovanni Medici, have been considered guilty of all seven of our stated 'deadly sins.'"
"So, is that all, Jacob and Sarah?" Both of the executive members nodded their heads, and returned back to their seats. "Well, everything is stated. Everybody is dismissed, and Können Sie Gott ruht Ihre Seele. May God rest your soul." The groups of people gathered into their miniature groups once more, and left the board room, and eventually, Benedict was left to himself once more. Walking around as if in a state of confusion, he stopped and turned towards the window, gazing out upon the streets of eastern Lavender Town.
"An innocent sixteen year old, however..." he thought out loud, his voice carrying throughout the hall. "Must we eliminate him or her? If only they could have another chance..." Suddenly, thoughts drifted to his old theologic colleague, Medici. His expression now stern, he gazed outward, a hand placed against the glass. In such cruel times as these, he wondered, did anybody even want to live anymore?
This is pretty good only that it's a prologue. It's seems pretty cool that you feature a new team called Team Aura!
Well, I'm here fer a review ^.^
(A Pokemon fic by Laura/Sango)
Prologue ~ Calm Before the Storm
Description: I thought you did rather well in describing the feelings and emotions of the characters throughout their dialouge in the prologue, but beware, you also need to describe the setting as well in future chapters. What was the room like that Giovanni was in? Was it warm? Did it have a certain scent? Was it raining outside the window? Was it day or night? I'll just leave out the Setting part of my review...
Characters:
You did an excellent job creating the attitudes of these characters through simply how they spoke, and what they spoke about. I can get a real feel for what they're going through, even though this is just a prologue. Again, make sure the people/Pokemon in your story are all worth being described; not just personality-wise, but physically as well. I mostly say this because of their hair colors, eye colors, or faces. And again, it shouldn't be a problem for you, whether you meant to or not in this prologue.
Plot: I don't want to comment much on plot as this is just an opening introduction to your fic, so I'll just keep my mouth zipped and wait for the next chapter to see if any more details on the plot arises. Team Aura and Rocket searching to eliminate a girl with Ice abilities...hmm...
Spelling/Grammar: Definitely not a problem. You've done well to spell words correctly and write fluently without doing anything wrong. The only thing I suggest to you, just in case, is type your fic on Microsoft Word or another word processing document program, as the Spelling/Grammar check there can find and eliminate mistakes you might have looked over.
Overall: This fic tweaked a bit of my interest, so I think I'll come back for more. Something you could try to master is the narrative hook trick, which in my opinion, is a simple way to catch readers. Tantalize the readers with something they want to hear, then end it abruptly or change/alter something that twists what happens, causing them to want to know what happens, or read on. It's just a technique; you don't necessarily have to do something like that. There are many methods authors use to reel in their audience, but sometimes, they have to find out on their own. Looking forward to Chapter One!
Tyranitar - *nods* Alright. I'll remember that for later chapters.
Chapter I - Laura and Little Hetfield
The young girl tossed lightly in her sleep, now in perhaps a dream-like state. However, for this woman, it seemed to be more like hellish nightmares. She dreamt of falling downward, memories of her mother and stepfather flooding with her. She recalled all the violence in it, the abuse. Feeling hands grab her, she arched her back and tried to pull away; however, she jerked awake.
Beads of sweat dribbled down her cheeks, her hazel-colored eyes wide as she panted heavily. She looked back towards her alarm clock; 4:23, it read. Still as dark as night, as well. Turning on the small moon lamp and placing her glasses on the bridge of her nose, the young woman sat up, picking up a pair of clothing as she got up and walked towards her bathroom.
Her hand stealthily twisted the alloy knob, her hand smoothly dancing across the wall, and she flipped the switch upward, light flooding into the moderately-sized bathroom. As early as it was, she was prepared for her morning ritual of cleansing. She slowly undressed her toned, curved figure, and somewhat quickly leapt into the shower, as if it were a reaction from the chilly winter air.
After about ten minutes or so of hot water and soap against her skin, she got out, the soft blue towel wrapped around her form. Quietly yawning, she gazed at her reflection, and sighed. From her point of view, there was no beauty in her; of course, she could just be being modest about herself, but she honestly did not see how she was attractive in any way.
Nodding her head, she began to dress herself in her fresh pair of clothing. This consisted of a black shirt with two green faeries over a camouflage green turtleneck, as well as dark-colored jeans and black high-top tennis shoes. She thought this went well with her hazel eyes, dark hair, and fairly pale skin. As she finished, she began to slowly brush her hair, straight and thick. Once this was complete, she turned off the illuminating lights and exited the bathroom, walking in the darkness towards her home's kitchen.
The young woman flicjered the small oven lamp above the stove on, tears lightly welling up in her eyes as she reached for a piece of paper and a pencil. She began to write her goodbye to her aunt, who was her current guardian. No, she wasn't running away, yet starting her Pokemon journey, she had been told, was like running away from her troubles. With a heavy sigh, she looked upon her letter:
Aunt Christine
I am sorry to do this, but I am leaving hours earlier than expected. Where am I to go? Pallet Town. I just couldn't end my flashbacks, so I am going on my journey now.
Remember I love you,
Laura
Feeling slightly satisfied, the girl, Laura, laid down the pencil and grabbed her ticket for the ferry, as well as her black messenger bag which held her supplies. Walking towards the doorway, tears flooded her eyes as Laura sighed heavily once more, looking back as she officially left her home. Now she began her walk towards the focks. Once she arrived, about half an hour later, and with a flash of the ticket, she boarded the ferry and looked back towards the east as the ship left the dock. It was well past 5 in the morning now, and the sky began to slightly lighten up with dawn.
~~~

Around 8 o'clock, the ferry arrived at the Pallet Town docks, and Laura quietly departed with the few people that were on with her. Looking about quietly, she began to walk away towards the Pokemon Lab, where she hoped to receive her first Pokemon.

When she finally reached there, however, she was taken deeply by surprise by the sight. The gate was closed, yet a box and a table were outside. Laura assumed that Proffessor Oak was gone, but left the table and the box for any trainer that was planning to start their journey today. Walking over, she obserbed the Poke'Dexes in the box, as well as the Poke'Balls conveniently nestled upon the table. The Poke'Dexes, in multiple colors, were apparently in a new, popular model with two screens, and the Poke'Balls were also in a varying assortment, each with an individual name to signify who the Pokemon belonged to.

Nodding her head with assurance, Laura stepped over with the few people around her, picking up a silver Poke'Dex, as well as the Poke'Ball marked by "L. Deirdre." Glancing over the names, Laura then stepped back, looking down upon the crimson orb in her hand. With a slight bit of wonder in her heart, Laura released the Pokemon contained inside. As the light faded, a small red-orange lizard was revealed. 'A Charmander!' she said to herself, a feeling of excitement overtaking her. Yet she was confounded, as well. It'd be cold fire, with her ice abilities, as well as the Charmander's embers.

"Char?" The fire Pokemon yawned, shaking his head lightly as deep blue eyes looked up towards her. Smiling weakly, Laura scooped up her new friemd in her arms, immediately thinking of a name. Her favorite vocalist was James Hetfield of Metallica, but would this Charmander approve?

"It's alright, James. I'm here now." She spoke in a calm, soothing voice that was her own, James smiling with approval of his new name. She looked back for a moment as she saw a dark-haired boy approach the table. Wondering if she should talk to him, she gazed at him, noting his brown eyes, khaki pants, and Metallica band shirt. He seemed like a person she should try to get along with. Stepping close, she looked at him and slightly became anxious.

"Come here often?" Laura asked shyly. The young man looked up and her and seemed to be a slight bit baffled. Nervous, Laura was honestly hoping for a kind response.

Hi there, Sango. It's nice to see you continuing the fanfiction here. Yeah, just as a confirmation, I am darktyranitar from TPM.

Anyway, this version has improved a lot since the last time you post. The writing style had somehow bring me back to the fic, To Those Who Still Care. Reminiscing... I hope you will continue updating this fic, cause the last version of the fic was left suspended. Also, they were a few spelling error in this fic, like when you spelled "friend" as "friemd". Other than that, it's all good. Keep it up!

Chapter 2 - The Cold Fire: Enter Michael and Arin

"Me?" the dark-haired boy questioned, almost in amazement that somebody like Laura would talk to him. He looked up and gazed at Laura's figure and form. Judging from this first impression, he thought that she was a rather attractive woman. Maybe even too attractive for him. "Not really. I'm just starting my journey today."

Laura nodded her head and responded with "Same here." Thoughts rushed through her head as she watched him obtain his Pokédex and PokéBall. She thought maybe he was even as shy as she was. Even to her, this boy was attractive. But it confused her; why would somebody so beautiful be so reclusive?

"By the way," Laura continued as she approached him once more, holding out a tender ashen-colored hand. "I'm Laura...Deirdre." She smiled weakly as he seemed to almost force one, his hand and slender arm meeting hers.

"Michael Silvern..." he answered, his voice somewhat deep, yet still rather smooth and gently flowing. "Call me Mike, if you want." The two nodded their heads to each other gently as their hands pulled away. Silence passed between them for a few moments, but as Laura began to mouth something else, she was rudely disturbed by a shove and a shout of "Get your asses out of my way!" The voice was high and very feminine, but still sounded a tad bit rough. Laura and Mike glanced over at this girl and were both baffled in agreement that this girl was a 'nothing special' brat into trends, perhaps a kogal. Her eyes were a blue color and her hair was streaked with black and crimson, obviously dyed. Her somewhat crooked teeth were visible, and she was adorned in a jacket symbolizing Ireland, a shirt reading "You have a face for Radio," as well as a dark, tattered pair of jeans.

"Are you challenging us?" Mike questioned, clutching the PokéBall he had picked up earlier. The trendy girl shook her head, and pointed her finger directly at Laura. The young woman froze on the spot and gasped lightly. She feared for the worst for a moment, but all James could do was growl intimidatingly at this girl, leaping from Laura's arms down to the roughened earth. Despite being young and new to this trainer, he was ready to protect her regardless, as if he already had a sense of justice. Grasping her PokéBall on the table, the girl tossed the orb towads the ground as Laura watched in anticipation, hoping that there would be a chance of her somehow winning against this Pokémon.

The illuminating light streaming from the ball faded, revealing a tan and brown feline Pokémon. It was small and lithe, yet upon its head was golden charm resembling a coin. Whether or not it was fate decided by the Proffessor, this girl was starting out with a Meowth. A light smirk formed on the trendy girl's face while James and Laura together stood in an almost defensive position, as if they were sparring in a martial arts class. Seeing what was going on, newbie trainers alike gathered around Mike, Laura, and this girl after obtaining their first Pokémon, watching in amazement on what would occur.

"Meowth! Scratch that lizard!" the girl cried. Her female Pokémon nodded her head, leaping over towards James, claws slowly extending outward offensively.

"Growl at it, James." Laura said calmly. Clearly she had studied, for most knew that growling to a Pokémon would decrease its offensive power slightly. Nodding his head, the tiny dragon dubbed James opened his mouth widely and emitted a slightly cute-sounding roar. Meowth's eyes widened lightly as she reached him, her claws barely leaving a wound upon his abdomen. Shaking his head, James stepped back, almost instinctively swiping his claws at the cat's face. Whining, the Meowth leapt backwards, almost begging her trainer to forfeit.

"No, you stupid *****!" This girl screamed to her Pokémon. "We have to win!" Sighing with a slight shrug of the shoulders, the girl had no idea on what to do about this. 'This girl,' she thought, 'is probably smarter than I am. Should I take the risk?' Shaking her head to erase the thought, she called out to Laura "Hey. How much do you know about Pokémon?" All Laura could do was shrug her shoulders slightly. The truth is, she knew quite a bit about being offensive as well as defensive, but on a scale, she didn't have a clue where to rank herself.

"'Cause if you know a lot," the girl continued, looking down with confusion deepening in her eyes. "I'd like to forfeit, but I'd still keep my eye on you. I'm Arin Dalliam, and don't you forget it!" Recalling her Meowth to its PokéBall, she ran off into the distance, trying to avoid any humiliation for her decision. Eyes widening from Mike, Laura, as well as James, the trio gazed at each other.

"I guess, congratulations on your first victory?" Mike asked in confusion. All Laura could do was merely nod her head slightly. After another moment of silence as the crowd departed, she looked up into the eyes of this young man who was inches taller than she was, and mouthed what she recalled of trying to say.

"Feel like seeing what Pokémon you received?" Laura questioned him. Mike nodded his head and lightly pressed the button on the PokéBall, causing it to expand. Lightly tossing it to the ground, the two watched as the light streamed out before fading, revealing the boy's Pokémon. The turtle's head was slightly tilted, its pale azure skin seemingly going well with it's brown and yellow shell. It turned out that Laura's new aquaintance and friend was starting out with a Squirtle.

"Is it...drunk?" Mike sighed, looking down upon his water starter. "If that's the case, I shall call you Div." Laura's eyes widened slightly with delight. Perhaps besides music and Pokémon, they had another thing in common.

"Hey, Michael." Laura called out shyly, causing him to look up. Nobody besides his family really ever called him by his true name, but he wondered. Perhaps she was slightly mature or simply affectionate. "Are you perhaps, a fan of the Penny Arcade webcomics?" Once Michael nodded his head, a weak smile that seemed stronger than before formed upon her lips. "I was just wondering, 'cause I am, too."

The two gazed at each other for a moment and nodded their heads. They both scooped their Pokémon into their arms and walked towards the north side of Pallet Town. Small houses passing by the duo, they enjoyed this light serenity before the would begin their journey officially. Perhaps today was a good day to live to see, afterall.

It's not a bad fanfiction, though I noticed some mistakes or something..

Chapter I - Laura and Little Hetfield said:
Walking over, she obserbed the Poke'Dexes in the box, as well as the Poke'Balls conveniently nestled upon the table.

Slight typo with just the observed, where you put b by mistake for v. x] That's all I caught from the first chapter..

Chapter 2 - The Cold Fire: Enter Michael and Arin said:
Laura nodded her head and responded with "Same here."

Maybe a comma after with. Like, it could be: Laura nodded her head and responded, "Same here." or something like that. *shrug*

"The two nodded their heads to each other gently as their hands pulled away. Silence passed between them for a few moments, but as Laura began to mouth something else, she was rudely disturbed by a shove and a shout of "Get your asses out of my way!" The voice was high and very feminine, but still sounded a tad bit rough. That seems kinda cluttered, and a bit hard to read, but that could just be me. *shrug* I guess you could do something like.. Silence passed between the two for a few moments when Laura started to mouth something to be rudely interrupted by a shove.

"Get your as*es out of my way!" came from a very? high and feminine voice from behind, yet it seemed rough.

And then with the description of her after Laura and Mike noticing the girl. Don't take me too hard, or anything because I'm not the best writer anyway. Just thought I could help you.. and maybe not that big of a content.. How old are they though? It seems pretty old to be just ten years old.. especially with that comment from Arin.

But the fanfiction is pretty good nonetheless. I'm going to add it to subscription. :]

Oo, so Laura has a traveling partner. I'm curious about whether anything will happen between them in the future. Arin probably will become Laura's rival.

And I agree with Kyukon on the cluttered part. Maybe you could improve that part. And I think that the trainers age are around 15-17. Well, that may be quite late to get a first Pokemon, don't you think?

Your fanfic are doing good. I hope you will keep posting.

Thanks for the reviews, guys.

Yeah. Laura and Arin are both 16, Michael being 17. In my view, most decide to go for a longer education before officially becoming a trainer.

And yeah, let's just say that I have plans for the two...

Okay. After a while, seemingly a little rushed, I'm back with Chapter 3.

Chapter 3 – Living Without Hope

The Elemental Masters were the experts of the Fire, Ice, and Electric elements in the Pokémon world, in which with their duties they have kept peace ever since the first, called the Sages, had mastered their alchemic abilities. While most chose to defend the honor of peace, others had gone against the Code of Neutrality and turned either holy or evil. By the Code of Neutrality, the masters had sworn themselves to side with neither, for it could ruin the balance of the world, causing emotional distraught and a spread of turmoil.

Joseph Benedict, the man who hid himself under the veil of being a traveling priest, had never considered the thought before he decided the Elemental Masters had to be somehow eliminated. Without the peace that the regulators, another word for the neutral masters, had caused, the world would indeed be under a shady cloak of darkness that could possibly end the stability the human race had built since the first civilizations. Benedict, however, considered the abilities of these people to be nothing more than “work of the ultimate demon,” which was in mythology named Gigya.

Gigya was considered the root of all evil, and from birth, Benedict had been raised to believe that the Elemental Masters had secretly worshiped him. Gigya was sworn to cause instability between humans and Pokémon, ending their long-shared bond, and would cause darkness until time’s end. However, an angel of light, a perfect woman named Helena, was also placed in the same legend as Gigya. Helena, with her radiating wings, was believed to embrace the world and be the true peacekeeper, or so Benedict was raised to believe. In fact, neither existed, so the true fate of the world was laid upon the alchemists.

However, some had altered the belief in Helena, rather worshipping a more earthen goddess named many things, the most common being Terra. She had no enemies, and was considered the true peacekeeper to some. Even with leaves of rich green entwined in her hair, she was gorgeous. Nothing was believed to have been able to stop Terra, except a minor mortality. Having had died long ago, the angel of earth as she was called, her heart had created the limbo state in which lost souls neither traveled to heaven or to hell. Some had believed in her, but not as major as those who worshipped the legend of Gigya and Helena.

Sighing somewhat deeply despite his current content, Joseph Benedict was a little surprised by how his plan had gone underway within only days. He stared upon the Lieutenant Surge and Sabrina figures which were lightly nudged over, marking that he had abducted probably the more dangerous two of the seven main gym leaders, the eighth being an old colleague of his, Giovanni Medici. In the Pokémon world, the gym leaders were like international celebrities, the chairmen of the league being political leaders. This didn’t matter to him just yet, however. To Joseph, taking the gym leaders and accusing them to have sinned would perhaps increase his chances of earning fame and fortune, otherwise known as God, gold, and glory to some.

He sighed rather deeply once more, lightly muttering to himself out of complete boredom. He had not much time to think; so much as he did to act. Thinking in a state of paranoia, a vision of Medici overcoming him and abducting the remaining five gym leaders ran deeply through his mind, almost becoming an obsession in just a mere moment of thinking of it. Gasping, the relatively old man stood up, almost pacing around his office decorated in portraits and rewards. The black and silver dog-like Pokémon in the corner tilted its head slightly and sat up.

“Ab?” It questioned him, speaking merely part of its name. This was an Absol, particularly named Omega.

“No time to speak, Omega.” Joseph sighed, gently shaking his head. He, in time being, was in no mood to do anything but think quickly and deeply before acting. Looking back, he gently coaxed the canine towards him, the partners walking silently out of the office.

Grunts adorned in the white with grey A’s on their chests bowed their heads with respect as Joseph walked by, submitting to the leader they had made a commitment to. Some even wondered if they should follow him from behind, others shrugging their shoulders in question. Stepping forward, a few of the Grunts made their way through the slightly narrow corridors of the ancient temple. Coverless and stained glass windows held the sunlight which left its reflection in the stone marked the path as they made their way to the former prayer hall, which was converted now into a meeting room. In front of the crowd, Joseph was honestly nervous about his new thoughts, and knew that he did indeed need to act quickly.

~~~
Giovanni Medici gently grunted as he sat down, in a state of confusion over the recent reports he had received from spies in the Saffron and Vermillion areas. Sabrina and the Lieutenant Surge, both captured by Team Aura? How could it have happened so quickly, yet seemed so well-thought? Now sighing with anguish, he fumbled his hand through a couple of pens resting in a canister, having no idea what to do to stop this success of Team Aura from happening before he received more glory.
The lap Persian he had gently purred, nuzzling close to his leg in hopes to comfort her owner. Like most of her kind, this Persian was loyal to her owner, showing her cruelty to those who she could not find trust in. Nuzzling was the only way she knew how to comfort Giovanni, but it did not help him in any way. Sensing this, the Persian, with graceful steps, departed into the shadows of the office, merely to lurk around.
“Is there any hope for me, from whatever god exists?” The middle-aged man questioned, his eyes slowly drifting to the heavens beyond the ceiling wall. With another stressed sigh, he stood up and thought deeply to himself. What could get this off his mind, as well as help him think more clearly. Reaching into his desk for a dry towel, he slung it over a strengthened shoulder and nodded his head lightly. Heading towards his chambers also built into the gym, he continued to slowly etch out the beginnings of a new mission. He thought of perhaps seeking out this mysterious leader of Team Aura and perhaps assassinate him, but then he considered it to be a little too pointless as well as angsty.
Changing into a sleeveless shirt and a black pair of shorts, the towel still resting on him, he continued to think. Thought after thought passed through him, and he considered them all too quick and pathetic. What he wanted was a plot that would be deep, perhaps taking months to accomplish. And then as he reached the gym, the sudden, perfect idea hit his mind. Take over the technological Silph Company legally and through use of the electronics take over the entire Kanto-Johto Pokémon Federation? He smirked, a light shiver of mirth traveling through his spine. It could work, perhaps too well.
Continuing into the gym, he still smirked, watching other Grunts and Executives going through strenuous repetitions either through the machines or from bench pressing. Walking over to one of his head female executives, his sly smile remained as he told her of his plan. The smirk transferred onto her face as she brushed back a long, thin lock of ebony-dyed hair, her eyes of ocean blue shining in the illumination of the light. She then walked away and told the others of this plot their leader had hatched, and soon the room was flooded with the sound of joyous cheers for Giovanni.
“It should work, if we try hard enough…” He muttered, content more than ever with himself. Walking over through various machines, before taking on the challenge of the treadmill, he continued thinking of ways that it could work. But the problem fluttered through him: Where would he relocate the headquarters to in order to be closer to Saffron City? Thinking of the abandoned casino in Celadon City, to the west of Saffron, he nodded his head to himself. He had the perfect plot, he thought. And it was ready to be acted upon whenever he felt like it.
