Speed stat - needs something more.

I've been playing Pokemon for a long while, but why is it that the Speed stat is only determined for attacking first? I also play FFXI, and we use the Agility (Speed on there) to determine attacking speed (since the game has real-time battles) and also evasion (Accuracy on FFXI is determined by Dexterity, that also includes weapon and stat skills to increase).

Should the Speed stat also include evasion and accuracy for Pokemon? It needs to have something more than just a speed for a Pokemon to make the first move in battle.

No. Evasiona and Accuracy would be totally ****ed up and the game would be (even more) unbalanced. Let's keep it as is thank you.

Speed also determines the chances of running away from a wild Pokémon.

In battle, attacking first is pretty important. One attack more or less can determine the outcome of the battle. I think Speed is good enough as it is.

Yeah, I see what you mean about fleeing a battle. But how is evasion determined at times? I guess it would deal with a move's accuracy... :(

Speed is also important because it gives you an extra turn. One thing however...

What the hell's the point in moves that lower your opponents speed?! You just missed a turn anyway doing that, SO WHAT WAS THE POINT??!!

Those moves piss me off so much because they are completely and utterly useless. With paralysis they're still slow when they come back, and with agility your poke can outspeed others too... but WTF is the point in Scary face and Cotton spore??!! Anyone???

well on way they could be used is that once you slow your enemy down even if the poke you have out noew fails to win the one you follow-up with will have an advantage.

Wow...I didn't know that! That explains why my Lv57 Steelix couldn't run away from a Lv40 Golbat.
