SPPf June Art Contest: Pokémorphs and Gijinka Pokémon

Heh, sorry I haven't judged these yet, but here goes!

First place goes to Riyu* for Power of Ice:

(I apologize for using the full size pic, but its art you don't want to ignore the little details.)

Judge's Comments: I think this piece is pretty beautiful. The shines, the colors, the shades... it all flows nicely.

Second place goes to K.Yoon for Pokemon Gijinka Contest Submit:

Judge's Comments: It was a very, very tight race between second and third. I just love the idea of the design of the gijinkas and the interaction of Intimidate.I don't want to hear any more complaints about traditional mediums not getting enough respect in my future contests. If it is done well, it is done well and this is done well.

Third place goes to Asuka with Shinnoh Goddesses:

(It has bare boobies, so click at your own risk.)

Judge's Comments: The very first nude entry in my Serebii contests! Would I be more than a generic male if I said this entry had some nice curves in it and portrays the beauty of Azelf, Uxie, and Mesprit.

Congrats to all of the winners and stay tuned for the next contest I get the chance to host.

What about tracing something you originally drew? I usually draw something by hand, then trace it on a computer graphics program so it looks smoother.

That's your own work, so I'd define that as outlining.

I define tracing as taking someone else's work, tracing over it, and claiming it for yourself. Y'know an art thief.

lol no i mean, can we change the rules, so that say, each member may enter two entries ?

and do they need backgrounds?

Two entries gets a bit lopsided... Say if someone does two really good pieces that obviously beats the others... that'll take up the first and second spots preventing others from getting it. So, I'm sorry, but we'll just have to have one entry per person.

The more effort you put into a picture the better.
I see.
...actually, I don't. How would you know if someone put a lot of effort into their picture just by looking at it?

I hope that didn't sound rude.

Let's say someone entered a somewhat refined sketch and then someone entered a well inked digital drawing with good colors, shades, the whole 256 yards. It would naturally take more effort to ensure everything is flowing well when you color something as opposed to just sketching it out. However, I dislike to make this black and white, as I do not wish to limit creativity.

Ah...now I get it.
So basically, it means that a sketch artist like me who has no idea how to use computery drawing stuff would have no chance in this contest. Understandable.

I think it's because the Pokédex Project on DeviantArt uses a standard frame for its works...which is, to say the least, not as friendly toward hand-drawn analog artwork than digital creations.

Sketch artists do have a chance. I respect all forms of art, however, I support refinement in each.

The more your drawing stands out and if it is done well you will do well.

I quick look around DA and you will see artists who use pencils and color pencils exclusively whose work looks just as polished , if not more so than people who use digital coloring

Any artform takes time to learn, but as long as you try, the efforts will show

I see.
But still, for me to win in a contest where the contestants mainly use...computer arts and stuff, isn't that sort of unlikely? Considering the fact that I don't know how to use computer arts and stuff.

Well the month is nearly half over, let's see some more entries.

I think the Showcase is diverting all the attention away from this. Perhaps I can draw up something else for this.
