Spreading Pokerus

I traded my gengar with pokerus to my fire red, and it wont spread, is this normal?

It wont spread on Fr/Lg but it will never go away either.
If you want it to spread trade it to ruby/saphire/emerald. Spread to one then trade it back. Let that one spread to another until you have an army of super powerful bug controlled freaks

Yes it's normal. Since fire red/ leaf green don't have a clock, then then there's essentially no time for it to transfer to another pokemon LOL
The only way to get it to spread is to trade it to either ruby/saphire/ or emerald

can you simply catch the Pokerus by battling a wild pokemon which has it or do you have to catch a pokemon having pokerus?

Now I feel ridiculous running around for Hours w/ my Infected Squirtle and Shining Staryu in hope to infect Charmeleon, Bulbasaur and Pichu.... -_-;;;;

I caught it by battling a wild pokemon which has it, you do not need to catch an infected pokemon

It works the same in Colosseum and XD too. Since I do all my training in XD, I have several infected Pokémon boxed in Emerald, who only come out for the purpose of spreading the Pokérus to something I want to train---which then promptly gets sent off to XD so it can never lose the Pokérus.

In short:

FR/LG/Colo/XD: Pokérus effect applies, but it cannot spread or go away

R/S/E: Can spread, but also goes away if the carrier isn't boxed
