Ssbm Ds?

Olivier!

You can change this?
I was wondering, because of the great succes of Super Smash Brothers Melee could there be a Smash title for the DS in the future? I would sure like it to happen. Who agrees and who doesn't?

First off, the GameCube controller's got way more buttons than a DS has.

Second, playing a 3D fighter using a touch screen or D-Pad is really a disappointing idea.

Third, the game would have to be made 2D or in psuedo-3D. :s

Well, I think that a SSB game for the DS would be great. Having it similar to Jump Superstars, I think that it would work.

IMO, the DS is long over due a SSB type of game. They could call it something different since it would be for handheld consoles. I think that it would be a great idea.

Well, there is the fact that SSB is psuedo-3D already, so the controls will work if they're in a Jump Superstars fashion (even though I haven't played the game), as the previous poster said.

It is possible to make a new Super Smash Bros.. But don't expect one until late into the DS' lifespan - maybe late 2008. Remember that HAL already have their hands full with SSBB until late 2007-ish.

Maybe they'll replace the Shonen Jump characters and environments with Nintendo characters and environments, and call it Super Smash Bros. DS!

It's black magic!
I could see them remaking SSB for the Nintendo DS. I would buy it if they ever make it. They only need four or so buttons (a attacks, b attacks, jump, and shield) or five with a taunt button.

It wouldn't work. The main point of SSB is the Smashing part, something which you just can't do with a D-Pad. You could have no difference between tilt and smash attacks, you would have no difference between running, walking and moving slow, you would have no difference between short hopping and regular jumping.
You mustn't try to change a game with joystick controls into a game with D-Pad controls. Mario 64 DS and its very crappy controls proved that it just doesn't work.

I think it would work. Super Smash Bros. is a formula that could be applied to the DS. Yes, it would definitely be simplified in the long run but I think having a portable SSB is definitely worth those shortcomings.

D-Pad = Directional Movement
Up would be jump, and Down would be crouch. A double tap would also make you sprint. And of course, moves would be affected if you're holding the D-Pad in different directions.
A = Attack 1
B = Attack 2
X = Attack 3
Y = Attack 4
R = Grab
L = Shiled
Blow into the microphone = Taunt

Seems good enough to me...

I doubt it would work, Smash attacks would need to be cut like that guy says. Basicly it would just be a lackluster port.

You forgot Jump, the A attacks and tapping/smashing.

A Smash attack is executed by pressing a direction & A at the same time.

HOW is it impossible to press 2 butons at once on a DS?!

What about the level of attacking between normal and smash?

I'm too lazy to restate controls, seeing they have already been posted,or quote anyone for that matter :p. I would like to say that It would be very cool if it did come out for the DS, with wireless and Wi-Fi modes, even if it would take 2+ years.

They could just port (not remake, but port) SSB or SSBM. The only thing they may add is Wi-Fi. But the really reason it would be good for the DS is because it is portable.

Controls:
A : Basic attacks
L+A : Smash attacks
B : Specials
X : Grab
Y : Jump (can press up on the d-pad though)
D-pad : Move
Select : Taunt.
