• Hi all
Just a notice, we recently discovered that someone got into a moderator account and started hard deleting a load of key and legacy threads...around 150 threads have been lost dating back to 2007 and some weeks ago so we can't roll the forums back.
Luckily no personal data could be accessed by this moderator, and we've altered the permissions so hard deleting isn't possible in the future
Sorry for any inconvenience with this and sorry for any lost posts.

One idea I haven't seen for a Water starter is a bear. While they aren't really semi-aquatic, they still go in the water for food. Ending type could be Water/Fighting.
Also, a possibility for an elephant Water starter could be Water/Psychic because elephant's have a good memory.

(With this said, however, I still really want a platypus Water starter)

GF made Serperior look great even with no legs so I bet they could make a narwhal Starter look good too.

I suppose that's a fair point but I still think that if Gamefreak designs a water starter based on an aquatic mammal, that it should be a platypus instead of some kind of whale. ^^;

If we do get a narwhal starter:

1. They'd probably want to give little legs/feet.

2. Its first evolution better be the most adorable thing I've ever seen in my life.

Typing could be a lot of things. Could go with Water/Ice for obvious reasons, but Water/Psychic or Water/Steel could also work.

I'm not a big fan of the idea of a Starter being a duck & beaver hybrid thing. At least cetaceans offer variety.

I saw a neat fanart of a duck/pirate ship crossover and it was actually really well executed and look like it would fit.

But lack legs.

Not that I don't like Bibarel but it kind of stinks that they used up their chance at a Water-type Beaver on him because that would be a good animal to base the starter on.

They could still make a Water starter beaver. They've done starters based on animals that other Pokemon are already based off before (Tepig and Grumpig, Froakie and Poliwhirl, etc).

Yeah, there's been plenty of overlap on Pokémon inspirations.

I'd personally like the water Starter to be based off of a sea slug, just to see what GF could come up with.
I mean, sure we've had Shellos, Gastrodon, Phione, and Manaphy, but the former two don't look like sea slugs much and the latter two are an entirely different species of sea slug.

I wonder if this regions starter will have anything to do with the region? Chespin, Fennekin, and especially Froakie all had French influences to a degree.

I'm crossing my fingers for Grass/Water, Water/Fire, and Fire/Grass. I think those'd be really fun typings to see more of and it'd make the dynamic between the starters much more interesting than Grass > Water > Fire > Grass. Kinda like what Sinnoh did.

YES. That would be SO epic!!! Especially if this is Hawaii themed, there could be a lot of water and two water typed starters could help. Grass/fire also reminds me of those fire-juggling dancers I saw as a kid in Lilo & Stitch.

I don't think it will happen but I sure can dream. What would they base them on? And imagine keeping that a secret until the second or final stage!

I could see a Grass/Water bear. Someone mentioned earlier a bear water starter, but I don't think they are aquatic enough for a full typing. I'd consider a gator too, but we already had feraligatr. Maybe they'd consider it a non-duplicate though if it's primary grass typing? We do have two turtle-like animals after all.

Water/fire that was suggested earlier was a flamingo with some faint Phoenix attributes. It could start off as a water ugly-duckling thing and become a fire/water Phoenix. I think Flamingos are even called fire-coloured birds in some cultures.

And then Fire/grass...I could see any number of things actually. A kangaroo, a Tiger... Fire type is pretty easily slapped onto mammals, just look at all the fire dogs. Tiger might be best though, you could do a real cool grass-stripe pattern.

I'd like to see a Grass/ Fighting Kangaroo but we just had a Grass/ Fighting Chesnaught.

So, I'd like to see a Water/ Fighting Elephant, Fire/ Fairy Rabbit and Grass/ Steel Hedgehog.

And if they did a flamingo for a starter, it'd better be Water/ Psychic with its pink color to hint that psychic typing. Now that I think of it, Fairy could work too.

Breloom is partially based off of the kangaroo.

They wanted a Grass/Fighting kangaroo, I just pointed out one technically already exists, although not as a Starter.

A animal/concept already existing as a pokemon, even with the same typing has never stopped gamefreak from making another one; just look at Butterfree, Vivillion and Beautifly.

Breloom is heavily stylized and fungus based. I think a different, furrier design focused on the speed stat would be sufficiently different.
Though I agree I'd rather not want a Grass/Fighting starter right after Chestnaught.

As for kangaroos, I think the best way to represent them would be a ground/fighting type.

Isn't Breloom based on mushroom? Even if its not, it doesnt looke like a kangaroo to me. What I want is a pokemon with typical kangaroo features and besides, we had Froakie, a Water frog pokemon although we had Seismitoad and Politoed.

Really? I always thought of it as a mushroom-dinosaur. I don't see Kangaroo in there at all. Maybe if it rested on it's tail but it's posture looks like it's vaguely raptor-ish.
