Should the starters in D/P be the same Water, Grass and Fire or should they be other types? If you say others type, please say what types you'd want in your post.

I think they should be different. The same fire, water and grass is getting boring. They should do something like steel, psychic and ghost.

The starter pokemon are called starter pokemon because they're meant to have an "easy" type, with rather obvious type weakness/advantage. I would be totally disapointed, if they had other starter types than fire,water and grass, 'cause of traditional reasons.

They can't change it. You can't just break tradition like that (Yellow doesn't count, as it's based on the anime, and the 3D ones aren't your typical Pokemon games).

I don't think they will explicitly change it, although the 3rd generation did sway a little (Fire/Fighting, Water/Ground).

They are not changing.Its in Eszetts sticky of things that are not going to happen:change the Starter type triangle.

They should do something like steel, psychic and ghost.

That wont work.For type triangles to work,you need a few conditions:

1)One type must be resistant to one type and weak to another.
2)All types must depend one only one stat(Atk. or Sp.Atk)
3)No immunities
4)If they get dual-typing ,they still have to be weak to their opposite type(thats why Charizard isn't a Dragon type,because then he would lose his weakness to water)

The only other type triangle that works after Fire/Grass/Water is Flying/Fighting/Rock.

They could have different ones for a change but thats all right.

They could have different ones, but tne only other triangle of types out there, is Fighting-, Flying-, and Rock-types. So, if they want to make them that, go ahead, but I highly doubt they will. Nintendo will make sure they stay Fire-, Grass-, and Water-types. I mean, it's tradition. ;o;

It's highly unlikely that they would change the types completly, however, it is likely that they will do what they did in the 3rd generation and as they evolve have them be dual types.

That's basically what I was thinking aswell. What they might do, is have Grass-, Fire-, and Water-types, mix with Fighting-, Flying-, and Rock-types. ;o; That might be interesting ..

Fire/Rock for the win! The idea is to totally shaft the Fire starter and then make Grass/Flying and Water/Fighting so that we have to look elsewhere for the new type combos. It would also make the starters a little less overrated I think.

Yah, Fire/Rock .. nah .. *shoots Magcargo* Lol, that's a joke. *hugs already dead Magcargo* ;o;

Anyways, I completely forgot that the types could go either way. Having it a double weakness, or making them all somewhat resistant to each other. Though, you could always mix them up, and have Water/Flying, Grass/Rock, and Fire/Fighting .. xD. Combusken anyone? v_v

Considering that Nintendo has had the same 3 types for the three generations, Its highly unlikely that they would change the types. However it really would be nice to have different type combinations within Fire/Grass/Water. I'm thinking like a Fire/Psychic , Grass/Electric , Water/Fighting. Now that would be pretty cool!

Well, that ideas okay, except it leaves one major problem. Your Fire/Psychic becomes powerful over both of the other starters, while Water/Fighting becomes completely defenseless from both sides. If you were to switch Fire/Psychic to Fire/Flying, I think it would work. xD

I know they're going to be the same, but I thought for 2 sets.

1st: Rock, Ground and Steel
2nd: Psychic, Dark and Ghost

Maybe we will get some other set that includes Electric.

Those are sooo close, fidani16, but there's one thing that makes them less of a triangle. Both of them have a type that is effective against both of it's counterparts; Ground, and Dark. I wish those would would though ..

Well isn't it obvious it is going to be the F/W/G type thing? Well they have done it for the past three generations wouldnt you think they would do it again? If they wouldn't do that I would be happy! But some what sad. Cause wouldn't it just be a tradition of having the Fire/Water/Grass typw trio! They always bounce off of eachother and it is sort of a tradition! But I would like new types here and there and seeing that there would be no new types I would like a new type trio for the starters...

That would be very interesting indeed. Not a bad idea.

I've been praying for a shake-up of the starter types for ages... so I'm hoping for a change, but I don't see it happening.
