I restarted pokemon leaf green and I'm having a tough decision between all the starters please tell me who and why you would pick Bulbasaur Charmander or Squirtle

Dear Lord, not another Starter Pokémon thread...

Alright, I say you go for Bulbasaur if you want Pokémon that can be easily trained, easily evolved. When it learns Vine Whip, you can easily defeat Brock. When you go against Misty, since Bulbasaur is a Grass Type, her Water Pokémon will be defenseless. All the following Gym Leaders should be a piece of cake with Venusaur... Excluding Blaine, of course.

Bulbasaur makes things way too easy. :/ By the time you fight Blaine, you've had plenty of chances to catch a rock or water pokémon. If you choose charmander, you might actually lose a couple battles in the beginning of the game... always super-exciting.

Go with the difficulty levels- if you want an easy game, pick bulbasaur; for a harder game, pick squirtle. Charmander makes the game hardest. (Plus, he's the cutest, and everyone knows fire is the best element.)

Charmander is easily the best starter. It may be difficult to win at first, but it's worth it for a Charizard.

I like bulbasaur because it's the closest to a tank out of all of them, but if you are going for a sweeper pick one of the other two.

Charmander hands down. He's just so cool, just like all the other fire starters. I started liking Charmander back in first grade when a kid let me borrow a Charmander card (I had none of my own). When I finally got my first pack Charmander was the first card! It sounds hard to believe, but it's true! Charmander rules all (even though I like the other Kanto Starters)!

Bulbasaur is clearly the best one there is in that starter line-up. Plus I started with him the first time I playied Leaf Green.

Bulbasaur>Squirtle>Charmander for the following reasons:

Bulbasaur is clearly the best because of the ingame moveset it can use as the game goes on. My in-game starter, Venasaur (Oakley) knew Growth, Sleep Powder, Leach Seed, and Razor Leaf. Use Sleep Powder. Then while your enemy is immobilized, seed him to sap HP and use Growth as much as you can before the enemy wakes up while his HP dwindles away from Leach Seed. If the enemy wakes up and hits you, leach seed will activate and restore some lost HP. Then sweep away everything with STABBED razor leaf. It’s fun to just let Leach Seed do the work of knocking out the first pokemon while Venasaur is powering up, then you take out the rest of the team too easily. Never fails. I wiped out Lorelei’s whole team with Oakley on my first go at the league and she (Oakley) didn't take a single hit. I powered up while fighting Dewgong and the rest of her pokes went down in a hit. She also beat Bruno easily, and Lance didn't stand much of a chance. I did the same thing to him as I did Lorelei. Plus Venasuar makes the best tank out of the three.

Squirtle is also a good choice because of Blastoise's defenses and it's capability to use Surf and Ice Beam, which will serve you very well during the game and at the pokemon league. Lance and his dragons (Except Gyarados) won't stand a chance against him with Ice Beam. Overall a decent pokemon with plenty of potential.

Charizard is by far the worst starter yet.
Geodude used Rock Throw= 70% damage on Charizard.
Charizard's strongest stats are its Special Attack and Speed, but with his very poor special movepool that excellent Special Stat isn't going to do much for you. All Charizard can use is a fire attack, (which isn't going to help you as much as a growth-using Venasaur or Ice Beaming Blastoise) and Dragon claw, but I highly suggest you don't waste Dragon Claw on this thing. It's not worth it. The only thing Dragon Claw will do for you is help take out Lance on the second go at the league, but Ice Beam will easily do a much better job.
But honestly, Charizard is not worth it. He looks good. That's it. He's nothing but a good-looking sports car with very little power to the engine.

Bulbasaur. Because it's obviously the best, with a diverse movepool and excellent staying power.

Squirtle's worth a shot, too. It's the most Tank-ish of the three, meaning your foe will have a hard time taking it down. It has decent Offenses as well, meaning you can give it Offensive moves and see some results.

Charmander....No, just don't. First off, there are better elements to use than the woefully pathetic Fire Type. And second, there are better Fire Types as well. Magmar is a very reliable Pokémon, IMO, and, unlike Charizard, it's actually able to do something rather than sit and cry as a Geodude OHKOs it with Rock Throw.

i would go with charmander because he isnt that much help in the 1st gym but he learns metal claw which is perfect and it will be worth it to train it to get a charizard

I would say Bulbasaur and for my second choice, Squirtle. Bulbasaur has a great moveset, can learn an in-game combo(lseed,growth,r-leaf) and has decent defences two. Also good against most gyms.can learn earthquake too.(i just like earthquake)

Squirtle is pretty good at having a diverse special attack arsenel and can learn earthquake.

Charmander overall is pretty crap.
Squirtle is diverse but tanky at the same time and well rounded.
Bulbasaur is the easy to use one with decent staying power.

My thoughts.

Yeah Venasaur can use Earth Quake, but I don't see a reason for teaching it that. Earth Quake is a move of raw power and as great as Vena is, his average base physical attack power wouldn't do Earth Quake much justice and you’d only be wasting the precious TM. The only physical attack Vena should ever be taught is Sludge Bomb. Use the Earth Quake TM on a pokemon that has a base attack power of at least 90, not 82. Same goes for Blastoise.

Plus, Venasaur isn't really designed to attack. He's designed to tank and last long in battles, hence why he can use Leach Seed, Sleep Powder, and Growth Combo. The only move he should really be taught is (Preferably) Magical Leaf and Sludge Bomb.
