starting new game

hi everybody im new here. i decided to start a new game on my firered cuz my team was kinda crapy. so wat team do u guys think i should use this time? i want the team to have at least 5 pokemon because last time i just used a chazarid and i was screwed at the end.

catch a shellder and evolve it with a water stone into cloyster. Gotta love his 504 def. Also you could catch a pikachu and evolve it later to make it a subpuching raichu. And although clefairy are rare you could catch one and make it a clefable with great moves and hp.

You can buy a ;129; Magikarp from the fisherman in the Pokémon Centre before Mt. Moon and I reccommend you buy it, so you can get a powerful Water Pokémon. That is what I did with my Firered.

Here's my Suggestion(s)-
Choose Bulbasaur as starter- It helps at the beginning and at the End (E4)
Catch a Pikachu...
Catch Pidgey...(Great for Erika and Useful for Flying around later on)
Buy the Magikarp...
Catch a Geodude...
Um.... Then Get a Growlithe a little later on- It's a nice Fire pokemon to have.

So That means you'll have:
Grass, Poison, Normal, Flying, Water, Fire, Rock, and Ground in your team, then whatever Tm's you wanna teach them. =)

I'd get a Bulbasuar,then catch a Pidgey and Pikachu. Then I'd buy that Magikarp and evolve it into Gyarados. Next, I'd capture a Diglett and get a Dugtrio, then much later I'd get an Electabuzz, and replace Gyarados with Lapras. Well, that's what I'm doing. Clefairy is good too.

For those of you who are recommending Gyarados, I've used him to get through the game and I can say there are much better options. While he is good early on, you face a lot of problems against the elite 4. It's a good pokémon, but not for what you guys are using him for. It took mine 3 ice beams to beat a stupid Dragonair! Not to mention Hydro Pump couldn't kill Aerodactyl.
Anyway here are my suggestions:
Start with Charmander
Get Mankey and Spearow or Pidgy
Get Eevee and evolve to Vaporeon. Make sure to save TM03 to teach to him
Get Electabuzz
And get whatever you want for your 6th slot.

Also worthy to note Doduo is a good pokémon if you don't want Spearow or Pidgy. I've used him before and it's really helped me out several times.
Other good water pokémon if you don't want Vaporeon: Golduck, Lapras, Tentacruel
Or, you can start with Squirtle, and have Growlithe as your fire type.

I'd start with bulbasaur. Then I'd get magikarp later evolve it into a gyrados to help beat those whimpy pkmn with dragon rage and be your surfer. Plus he's strong. I'd get a kadabra and catch a kangeskhan at the safari zone. Aerodactyl as your speed/flying pkmn and finally a legendary bird. Probably Zapdos to help with lorelie. You could get a mr.mime instead of kadabra because mr.mime grows fast with his boosted exp points. Plus psychic takes care of most of team rockets pkmn like koffings and zubats/golbats, and ekans/arbok.

if you have the patience i suggest chansey...just put it up agianst pokes with special attacks and it should take barley any damage and if it does take too much damage you always have softboiled

thanks for the advice guys i think im going to go with charmander vaporeon pidgey electebuzz and kadabra because i think mr.mime looks ugly. but is kadabra enough to beat the game without evolving?

Yes, I used Kadabra once and didn't evolve him into Alakazam until I beat the Elite Four. ^_^
