These are my first sprites. They are all of Strange Creatures (or just SC's for short), which are from some Pokémon parody stories my friend and I wrote. The original pictures of the SC's were terrible, so I decided to revamp them all. It's taking a pretty long time, but I think they are coming along quite well actually. Well, without further ado...
Here we have Jonboo, Jenburang, and Junspinar. They are fairly plain SC's, for the most part, but Junspinar has a few quirks. First of all, it has a much more developed tail than its previous form, and uses it to spin like a top. All three of these also have a "Bozberry Bomb" attack that involves throwing berries. I'm quite happy with these sprites. Shading the rounded edges was quite a challenge, but I think I pulled it off nicely.
These are Eeterbo, Elementino, and Atmobob. A giant atom, Eeterbo is able to use various electric attacks. When it evolves, it gains more electrons, making its electric field larger in the process. I'm not sure what the hell Atmobob is, so no comments on that one. It has no shading simply because I don't understand its anatomy. Out of these, Eeterbo is the only one I actually like.
Next up are Yukko, Snorky, and Yukronsky. I adore all of these sprites. Now, before you start yelling "It's Articuno!" realize that it was made that way on purpose. Yukronsky is just sort of a caricature of Articuno, exaggerating its huge wings and tail and giving it a more cartoony appearance. Anyway, these bird SC's aren't much more than they look. Yukronsky has some ice-based attacks, but the rest are fairly generic.
These next ones are Rockersteinburgersonfield, Zygerblyfergycosink, and Jofronkiolunkerot. Obviously, the running joke in this family is having very long names. I don't really have much to say about these, other than Jofron's absolute weirdness. It's a blue, 5-legged horse with a teardrop head, screwed up mouth, and a giant eyeball-flower growing out of it. Not sure what I was sniffing when I came up with that thing, but I'd like some more.
In contrast to the last set, these SC's have very short names: Graz, Kez, and Steck. The recurring theme with this family is that they look absolutely nothing alike, but they all have one body part that is thin and curly. They all share the same moves as well: Bl@%t, Ice-Wahay Combo, Weird Magic, and Tongue / Tail / Hair Drill. Weird Magic turns the opponent into a rat for a while, which proves to be a useful (but really random) technique.
Ah, good old stick figures. These are Arbo, Stygo, and HADHAD. Nothing much to say here. Stygo is known for making use of magic packages, while HADHAD uses mostly fire-based moves. Arbo is simply useless.
Now we have reached the SC mascots: Bargo, Garbo, and Bikdip. These are all just 2-D shapes of various colors, moods, and eye numbers. Since they are 2-D, they were originally drawn with no shading, but it was eventually added after my friend's request. The first two look fine, IMO, but I'm not so sure about Bikdip. It looks like he's standing on a lightbulb or something. But anyway, this trio is known for the Eat - Digest - Crap move combo, and each can shoot eye beams. But Bargo is rather useless, and Garbo is only good for boring its opponents to death. When Bikdip drinks a 3-D Lemonade, it evolves again and begins the next trio...
Conor, Cubon, and Spherio. These are simply advanced versions of the last three. No further comments. (But check out the crazy shading on Conor!)
The SC's are getting a bit more boring now. This is Lump of Cheese, Block of Cheese, and Ziggerdo. LoC and BoC are exactly what their names imply, and can't actually do anything. But Block of Cheeses (that is the correct plural form) occasionally evolve into Ziggerdo for no reason whatsoever, which is the one thing that makes them worthy of capture. Ziggerdo has many strange powers, such as the BubbaBeam, which inverts the opponent's colors and lowers their self-esteem. It can also melt, control liquid (including lava), and probably do some other stuff. (I'm just going to leave it at that)
Once again, inanimate objects become SC's. This is Rock, Stick, and Wimple. Stick has to be stepped on by a rhino to involve into Wimple. Wimple is actually quite uninteresting, but it is good for being the butt of jokes. In the stories, there were seven Supreme Wimples, which were just larger Wimples with wings. They were still rather pathetic.
Finishing the inanimate objects, Seed evolves into Thing and then Small Woodland Creature. There is actually a bit of conterversy surrounding the picture of Thing. My aforementioned friend / cocreator of Strange Creatures insists that is the worst picture he has ever seen. He created a replacement picture, but I didn't include it here because it isn't my work. I still believe mine is better, but he knows what Thing is supposed to look like more than I do, so mine might be completely wrong. Anydangway, SWC is best known for its Go Fish move, which has a 50/50 chance of either killing the opponent or itself. Other than that, there isn't much else to note.
More birds - these are named Kooba and Koombaroo. There is a final evolution, Koblaron, but it doesn't have a sprite yet, since it is my friend's favorite SC and he wants to make the sprite himself, and hasn't gotten around to it yet. But in the meantime, check out Kooba's fuzziness. It kinda looks like a golf ball, but I still love it.
Ah, finally, the last ones. Here we have Blap, Buhdarree, and Glop. Buhdarree is one of my favorites, simply because it is so hilarious looking. I really love the hat. Glop, on the other hand, I really despise, so I went through a lot of effort to make it look as repulsive as possible. It is diseased-looking, covered in boils, has some kind of eye infection, and has a bloody tooth. So I think I achieved that rather well.
That's all for now. More will be posted in the future. There's still about 100 left that haven't been sprited, so I have a lot of work to do. I hope you enjoy!
(note: all sprites were made purely in MS Paint)
