Stupid Antivirus GT: Need Help

Big Beluga

Alright so somehow I got this program called Antivirus GT installed onto my laptop. I don't remember ever intalling it, and no one who's used it has ever done anything as far as I know. This program has been annoying the crap outta me with constant popups, saying I have viruses and I need to get rid of harmful things on my computer. It keeps doing scans, and wanting me to pay to get rid of these so called "bugs" that coulf hurt my computer. Needless to say, I was a tad suspicious, so I did a bit of research and found that this was a fake Antivirus program, made to milk money out of suckers by making the user believer in false computer "bugs" and problems, and convincing them that by paying, they can get rid of these "viruses".

Now this is where I'm hoping to get help. I want this hoax off of my laptop, but it wont let me uninstall. If anyone has any previous experience with this program, I would appreciate if you could help me get it off. Thanks in advance.

Don't pay for anything that program asks you to.

Download and install Malwarebytes.

http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebyt...4572.html?part=dl-10804572&subj=dl&tag=button

Update then run a quick scan, reboot when it prompts you to do so.

- If it won't install or the "antivirus" is trying to flag it as a virus, download Malwarebytes and change the "mbam.exe" to "mbam.com" then install it.

Afterward go into the program file folder and find "mbam.exe". it's location should look something like this

"C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware"

Change that to "mbam.com" as well then update, run quick scan, and reboot when prompted.

When malware is removed go back and change everything you changed back to the way it's supposed to be.

Edit: By the way, nice sig. Love APC.

Ugh, I think this program is stopping me from downloading Malwarebytes. Everytime I try, one of its virus warnings popup, and stops the download =/

oh nvm. just read what you said about that problem lol.

Thanks a ton Frank, it worked perfectly! No more annoying popups! yay!

No problem, glad it's fixed now.

You can take a few steps to prevent it from happening again though.

For one, if you use Internet Explorer make the switch to Firefox. Then install adblock plus.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865/

Load their custom filters as it is best suited to your location, it really helps cut down ads!

Install Web Of Trust (WOT)

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3456

This one is more for precaution. WOT lets you know how reliable a website is. If the website is considered less then reliable it will let you know and ask you whether you'd like to proceed anyway.

Install NoScript

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/722

No Script requires more careful user interaction as it disables all forms of JavaScript on all websites unless you tell it not to do so. In other words only allow sites that you trust to run JavaScript.

Download and install Spywareblaster

A quiet and by quiet I mean REALLY quiet (you won't even know it's there) program. Simply make sure you update every two weeks or so as the only difference between the full and free versions is automatic updating.

Make sure you have a working and updated antivirus program as well.

I recommend Avast!
