Stupid names for items and/or moves

I've already heard complaints about Pokémon names, but what about the items and moves that were used in the games? While some are appropiate, others just sounded corny. Can you think of any moves or item names?

One good example I could think of is NeverMeltIce. While it enhances any Ice-Type attacks if it's being held, I think the name itself sounds really cheesy. It should have been called Ice Crystal.

I think "Teachy TV" is a rather bad name for the little tv-device in FR/LG, but the rest seems okay.

well, the berries back in GSC-times weren´t better...

Absolute Zero > Sheer Cold.
Combo > Brick Break

Those are my biggest gripes with dub Names. Absolute Zero sounds SO awesome and strong. It actually makes sense as a OHKO Move. Sheer Cold means pretty much the same, but it sounds frail and MUCH less awesome. Absolute Zero IS Absolute Zero. The lowest temperature there is. The temperature where the molecules stop moving. When I think of Absolute Zero, I think of 0 Kelvin Degrees or -273 Celsius Degrees. Sheer Cold makes me think of -150 Celsius Degrees at most...

Now, Brick Break is a Combo. Why they changed the name? Reflect and Light Screen aren't bricks either. Wall Breaker or Wall Shatter would've been a MUCH better translation (Notr to mention it'd make MUCH more sense.), but would still fall short of Combo.

Most other Moves and Items are OK, though... and so are most Pokémon names. I hate the XD Trainers names in the american version, but that's another story...

True absolute zero sounds better, but wouldn't kill the poke instead of OHKOing it? LoL ;-P

Faint Attack. I don't understand why its so hard for them to just correct the error and move on, instead of just leaving it like that.
Truth be told, in the days of G/S when I was a pokémon newbie, I believed that it had to ability to OHKO >_>;

Most of the 'Shadow' XD moves sound pretty lame. 'Shadow Sky'? 'Shadow Half'? 'Shadow End'?
Shadow Rave, Shadow Down and Shadow Blitz in particular all sound like dance moves.

I think the attacks with "attack" in them sound pretty lame IMO. Such as Quick Attack, Faint Attack, Wing Attack, Sand Attack. You get the idea.

As for an item, Rare Candy. I don't know; it just sounds unoriginal to me.

but yes definitely lame
to me the flute names are kinda lame
white flute, yellow flute, red flute
they just couldnt name them something a little more snazzy, like saxafone, clarinet, or even oboe

honestly how would sunglasses power up dark moves, and im totally confused about silverpowder, what has this got to do with bugs¿ well thats all i got for now

I'm gonna bring up the Japanese names of most of those mentioned so far, clear up some misconceptions....

-Originally, its name is "Tokenai Koori", but Nevermelt Ice is a pretty accurate translation. However, instead of "Ice Crystal", I think just changing the translation would be a better solution, something like "Unmeltable Ice" sounds good, assuming that many characters could fit into a name.
-You got Absolute Zero right (for the record, "Zettai Reido" translates to "Absolute Freeze", so both Sheer Cold and Absolute Zero are right, though the latter sounds better), but Brick Break is not called "Combo" in the original. Originally, it's "Kawari Wari", which means "Roof Tile Splitting". You know, like what karate experts do, stacking tiles before smashing them. Though, with that in mind, "Brick Break" is kinda the same thing, and "roof tile" makes about as much sense relating to Reflect and Light Screen as "brick" does.
-Gravy mentioned Faint Attack. Just so everyone knows, its original name is "Damashiuchi", which translates to "Sneak Attack".
-Concerning these moves that end with "attack", yeah, they could've been translated to end with something else. Quick Attack's name should be "Lightning Speed", and Sand Attack and Wing Attack could be "Sand Scrape" and "Wing Strike" respectively. The afforementioned Faint Attack being "Sneak Attack" could also translate to "Foul Play", though I personally think "Sneak Attack" gives that impression of deadliness.
-Rare Candy's originally "Fushigi na Ame", or "Mysterious Candy".
-I personally like the name "Flamethrower". Its original name is "Kaen Housha", and if you were to literally translate that, it'd be "Flame Emission". "Flamethrower" has the same basic meaning, but at the same time, it's a rather commonly-known term that relates to a type of weapon with the same function. So, with that in mind, does "Flamethrower" really sound like that bad of a name?

Ohhh... thanks for clearing the Brick Break issue. I saw Pokémon Forever (RIP) Calling it 'Combo' before the american version was released, so I thought it was the translation. I still prefer Combo, but it's OK...

The other names... I really have no problem with them. =/

Blackglasses boosts the power of Dark moves. Do you really think they will call it Sunglasses?

RaZoR LeAf

Night Terror
Sunny Day should be called Clear Skies, which is what the japanese translates to (I think) that way, it makes sense when you use it n the middle of the night.

All the berries in G/S.

Psncurberry, Przcurberry, etc. Also, I think the fact that a Fearow holds a sharp beak is very stupid! Obviously it's not his own beak, so what? He holds the beak of another dead Fearow? Also the fact that a Magneton holds a Magnet! The Pokemon itself is a Magnet, why would he need to hold one. That's like a Feebas holding a fish!

Nothing Special
No magnemite isn't a magnet. It is a metalic thing with magnets. Sharp Beak is a sharper beak.

And Rare Candies aren't powerful.

Um... I think the name Mirror Move is catchy but it doesn't fit into context (Parrot Mimicry).

Volteon

Back I guess??
XD feebas holding a fish lol

I don´t like (like someone said) all the atttacks that finishes with 'attack', it´s really strange: swellow, use wing attack attack!...
I also don´t like:
lava cookie: ?
miracle seed: I think that there is a better name for this.
beserk gene: beserk is a strange name IMO, also a awesome item that it disapeared...
Go-goggles: at least it isn´t Go-Google

What else would you call a cookie made out of Lava, Jolteon? :p

In Pokemon XD, every trainers name is hidiously deformed, I can't even pronounce them so I just try to ignore them. >_<

Eszett

Was it like that in Colo too?

Anyways, I find the name Scope Lens to be silly. Such an item ought to promote the accuracy of an attack, not increase its critical hit ratio. I would rather see the Scope Lens be called the Power Belt. Or Steroids. :p

I don't like the concept of the Sharp Beak either. I find the wings to be the more defining trait of Flying types, so um...it should have been called Razor Wings since G/S/C. Also, Spell Tag...I just plain don't like the name Spell Tag.
