• Hi all
Just a notice, we recently discovered that someone got into a moderator account and started hard deleting a load of key and legacy threads...around 150 threads have been lost dating back to 2007 and some weeks ago so we can't roll the forums back.
Luckily no personal data could be accessed by this moderator, and we've altered the permissions so hard deleting isn't possible in the future
Sorry for any inconvenience with this and sorry for any lost posts.

I can battle you tonight, say 9 PM EST. I want to nap for a few hours, since I've been up literally the whole night :c

The discussion as of right now is: With ORAS among the horizon, a lot of the newer megas seem more geared towards doubles with their new abilities. What niches do you see in these pokemon such as say..mega audino in OU and its newfound niche in doubles? Do you all also see yourselves playing doubles more or making a whole transition into the tier?

I personally want to get into doubles, but I don't plan on making a full transition. I'm mainly an OU player and I don't plan on branching off into something too extensively any time soon. I want to touch on Mega Sceptile. It's clearly going to be a glass cannon amongst the new megas and with lightning rod and blazing speed, it's going to give things such as thundurus and rotoms a run for their money. I don't really plan on using it in OU as the only reason I see any use for it is on teams who really, really dislike the pokemon I've mentioned. Despite not seeing the finalized stats, we know from regular Sceptile, that it's not the most bulkiest thing in the world. It's actually quite frail. With things like mamoswine (x4 to mega sceptile with STAB ice) priority talonflame and a whole bunch of other things that give our beloved gecko problems, I don't see it doing that much damage in the OU environment compared to other megas we have (or even the ones we're getting). In doubles, I can see it alongside gyarados, keldeo, and other mons' that appreciate the electric absorb. It could also work rather nicely with AoE damaging moves such as Discharge from the likes of Zapdos who can also sponge up steel type attacks aimed at Sceptile.

Personally, Ii'd also like to get into doubles, or at least VGC, but I don't think I'd want to start until at least ORAS' release date or something since it's going to be a pain to learn about all these things, and then 2 weeks later all this new stuff gets integrated as well.

I highly doubt i would make a full transition to doubles, but id be willing to try the tier out i suppose. AS FOR THE MEGAS: I would like to have a completely neutral and non-biased discussion on Mega Swampert. Just kidding I'm totally biased but what are you going to do? Anyway, I'm just really excited because if Swampy keeps its bulk while being able to increase its speed to great heights with swift swim, it might end up being quite ferocious. Even outside rain, it'll have a nice strong bulk to back it up on teams and could double as a tank. That role could be better-filled by others, but I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I'm also interested in tryin out Mega Altaria cuz of that bangin typing and Mega Lopunny just cuz.

I'm interested in trying Mega Altaria myself. So interested, that I've built proxy teams around it. The bulky cleric set is going to work amazingly on stall teams. The typing alone is enough to cover certain stall mons such as heatran. The main selling point to Altaria is its SP.DEF, so expect to see it as generally bulky. Even the Dragon Dance set works best as a bulky sweeper. Get off a DD...survive an ice beam..either roost off the damage or heal bell off any unwanted status and you're set (well once you remove taria's threats~).

Removing SvenNinja. Reason: Although he thinks we're a nice, fun crowd, he feels he would be better off in a guild where more of his frens are. Best of luck and hope to see you around, Sven~.

I've been playing doubles in preparation for the smog open, It's different to say the least. Working on combos is pretty challenging, I've been trying Specs Ninja with Scarf Maractus to get a storm drain boost from surf

made it to the finals of the prison break tour here on serebii

Welcome!

On a side note, I just got reqs for the gengarite suspect test this afternoon. At first, I was pretty sure I was going to vote ban, but now after reading through a lot of the suspect discussion, I'm actually not so sure. (If it was OU, I would definitely vote ban. Ubers has a different feel though.)

I think because of Shadow Tag Mega-Gengar is definitely uncompetitive, but I feel that banning a Pokemon, even if it's only a temporary in-game form of a Pokemon, would set a bad precedent.

Here's my explanation:

Clearly, a Pokemon simply having the ability Shadow Tag does not make it uncompetitive. For example, Sunkern would not be an uncompetitive user of Shadow Tag because it cannot really benefit to trap and eliminate certain Pokemon due to its low base stats. Gothoritha is a more relevant example. Mega-Gengar, on the other hand, has both the base stats and wide movepool to effectively use Shadow Tag. Therefore, the combination the Shadow Tag and the resources to use that ability (base stats, movepool, typing, fits into the metagame well) is really what makes Mega-Gengar uncompetitive. Similarily, Shadow Tag Gothitelle is also uncompetitive - by setting up on support Arceus or specially defensive Palkia, it takes control out of the player's hand.

As such, if Gengarite was banned, it could set the precedent that a combination of the ability Shadow Tag on a Pokemon that has resources to abuse it is uncompetitive. However, I think it would be a bad idea because it lacks focus in banning the part of Mega-Gengar that pushes it to being uncompetitive - Shadow Tag. Banning Gengarite could lead to people thinking the powerful centralizing abilities/moves that require somewhat niche checks are uncompetitive (ex. Geomancy Xerneas), instead of overpowered. However being powerful does not mean being uncompetitive. In terms of game mechanics, Shadow Tag is the essential part that takes control away from the player.

Therefore, I would prefer to not ban Gengarite, but to ban the ability Shadow Tag. This also fits with the idea that Ubers should be a metagame with the least amount of bans (only 1 ban covering both items, as opposed a Shadow Tag ban and a redundant Gengarite ban).

I was playing some 5th gen OU ladder with my hail stall team and got an interesting match vs a dragmag team.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen5ou-156936494.

At first I though I was going to lose since Kyurem-B + Magnezone is really difficult to deal with on stall teams but I managed to hold-off until some untimely Freeze-hax at the end.

I would like to try out for the war team to show my 69/10 skillz...
Hoping Mama will approve c:

Challenge accepted.

Meet me on the battle tower server on PS in about fifteen minutes. Best of luck ~

Edit: Congrats to Turpoo for making it onto our war team :). Turpoo's style of play has a very unearthly feel to it as he brings a major surprise element to the game. His quirky sets and odd predictions+actions will take almost any player by surprise. Such surprises are sometimes key in netting wins, and turpoo definitely shows that he has quite a few tricks up his sleeve that could (and probably would) render his opponent hopeless.

So once again, gratz for making it onto the team~
