Exactly how do I sketch substitute onto my smeargle?

the same as sketching transform, let the opponent sleep, than make it use substitute sleeping, then you use sketch, and you have sub. in smeargle

I've tried that already, in a double battle with Venusaur (Sleep Powder), Flaffy (The one w/sub) & Smeargle. It didnt work.

it should work, assuming the flaffy was on your team, and you selected substitute as the ability to be used and sketched with the smeargle, i'm not quite sure here, but maybe flaffy is slower than smeargle, in which case use sub for flafy and not sketch the first round, then when it comes round again use sub and sketch. if this fails i dont know what to suggest

So that means Smeargle can learn transform? once I battled a Castform with a Gardevior with Trace as its skill and when Castform did hail nothing happened

When the Faster-than-Smeargle-Subbing pokemon is asleep, and tries to use sub in it's sleep, and Smeargle tries to Sketch the sleeping pokemon's Sub (Keep in mind this is all in the same turn), Smeargle just Sketches the move it used before sub.

Snatch might do the trick. Find an enemy with Substitute in a double battle. Have one of your guys know Snatch and have the other one as Smeargle. If the enemy uses Sub the same turn you use Sketch/Snatch, the Sub ought to go to your Snatcher leaving the enemy that used Sup open for Sketching. (The trouble would be in finding a double battle scenario where one of the enemies knows Sub. (I'd suggest a Secret Base, but you can only do Single battles there.))

Make sure the pokemon with sub is faster. So that when it's put to sleep, it tries and fails to sub, but Smeargle can sketch sub. (The sentence sounds wrong)

If you have a pokemon that has Substitute, keep its HP less than 1/4 of maximum. In double battle, use Sub and it will fail. Smeargle can then sketch it. Or when fighting a wild Smeargle, use Sub (when current HP < 1/4 of max HP) and you will fail. The Smeargle can then sketch your Sub. Catch it with pokeballs and then you have a Smeargle with Substitute.

Sub isn't one of them. The easiest method I think is captianj's, but it's harder to get the nature you want that way.

i told you if its possible this will work in a double battle,
assumin flaffy first and (sleeper) second if the sleeper
1) flaffy use sub
2) sleeper uses sleep powder/hypnosis/spore/whatever
3 )sleeper used (sleep inducer)
4) Flaffy fell asleep
5) flaffy use sub
6)sleeper replaced with smeargle
7)come back sleeper
8)Go Smeargle
9) flaffy is asleep
10)flaffy use sub
11)Smeargle used sketch
12a) flaffy is asleep
13a)smeargle sketched sub

12b)smeargle sketched sub
13b)Flaffy is asleep

only difference is the whether smeargle is faster than flafy

This idea seems most promisng. I'll try that out.

Sucks Amy & Liv's pokemon werent bred for sub.

I used captainj's method and sketched sub onto meh smeagle. Also seismic toss, but meh.

Smeargle cant learn anymoves from HMs,TMs, or MTs.
