Sugimori Art~Your Opinion

Well I pretty much hate it, because altough it reveals the Pokemon for what they really are, it makes them look ugly, I think.

But what about you?

Sugimori artwork makes the pokémon look a snapload better about 98% of the time. And even though the guy isn't the best artist on the planet, I really dig his style. And much like wine, his art only tends to get better over time~

I love Sugimori art, it looks more interesting than the anime one sometimes. But the Sugimori art obviously wouldn't look good in the anime...

It's not a big gap as it used to be in the pre-GBA days though...

I mean, look at the Green Sprites....I love how people use those as an excuse that the Pokemon were supposed to look gritty and realistic though, despite that the Sugimori art was made first obviously.

I see no logic behind your opinion, sandos. If you are referring to the Sugimori art previous to R/S/E, then yes, I agree. But the official artwork after that rocks. Perhaps you could go a bit more in-depth about why exactly it is that you dislike it, or what exactly you dislike about it.

I love it. The way that guy does his artwork amazing! And it's a much better way to judge a Pokemon's look than a sprite in a game. Some people probably agree with me on that one.

I love Sugimori's art.
I mean, the RGBY and GSC ones where...pretty bad, but I love the RSE and DP ones.
Sometimes Sugimori art can make a Pokemon look worse than it's sprite, but alot of the time it looks better =D.

I like the Kanto, Johto and Hoenn ones, but since I despise all the Sinnoh Pokemon, through no fault of Sugimori's, I dislike his art.

However, if no-one else goes in-depth with their answer, why should I? I'm aware Sugimori art is popular, but I don't like it all computerised. It just makes them ugly; that's just my opinion. Also thanks for posting.

Dont forget that he remade all the 1st generation art(for FR/LG) and most of the 2nd generation too.

And I love it. Makes some pokemon look way better.

Love it and always have done. It's a thousand times better than looking at the sprites, and I just like the style he draws in.

... and on topic, Sugimori's art is the win. Tends to bring the Pokemon to life more I suppose, seeing as it's not a small pixel image. :B

About my only gripe with Sugimori art as of late is the fact it abuses generic poses that are also seen in the Sprites, bar few exceptions, Elekibble and Buuburn being the best current examples.

That aside, Sugimori is a great artist and his pictures really show the Pokémon with utmost detail, as opposed to the Sprites. I liked his most divergent works back in the RBY and GSC days, though. Then again, the quality of the Sprites has improved too...

Still, his concept art and standalones are wonderful. I'm really fond of Pokémon's most simplistic style, and thus, I'm a big fan of Ken Sugimori artwork. He's an artist to imprint life to all aspects in the fandom. Quite commendable. I like his Trainer artwork the most, as Trainer Sprites, while good, make no justice to nobody.

Now, if only I could find GSC Gym Leaders standalones by Sugimori...
