In the future, mankind has all but destroyed its world. In desperation, mankind fled its destroyed planet into space, by boarding large crafts, the first, primitive, space colonies. These shady vessels were composed of little more than enough to house its passengers, escape the planet’s gravity, and sustain itself endlessly; the colonies themselves were quickly built and not very enjoyable to be on. As years of drifting passed, the colonies were eventually added onto and renovated, until they became the daunting, vast, sedentary colonies they are today. However, mankind was still left with a problem. Though they may have improved their quality of living on the colonies, they still could not move, and had no real way of searching for a new home. Time was grim indeed.
In secret, a group of ex-government officials, a group of researches, and radicals, were trying to develop a plan of action. These people banded together to form an alliance of people called the “Better Tomorrow Group”, but where known better as the Revolutionaries, a popular urban legend of a group that was supposedly responsibly for the discovery of a new, inhabitable planet. This rumor wasn’t true, though, and led to disappointment among the masses. Over much time, the Revolutionaries put many plans in motion, only to see them all fail. Finally though, one of their projects was successful, the “Suit Project”, which was the creation of a “Mobile Suit”, or a highly robotic suit of armor that would allow the wearer to travel through the vast reaches of space, as well as protect them greatly and enhance strength. The suit was just as it sounds, a suit of armor that covers the body of its user, and not a giant robot like its name’s origin suggested; Mobile Suits where named after a myth of a giant robot called a “Mobile Suit“ that was told in the far away past. Though the creation of suits marked a great success, tests showed that they were able to whether the harsh conditions of space, but suits contained far too little power to go too far from the colony, where they drew their power from. The project was ultimately halted, as the government decided they could not afford to continue to fund a project that was incapable of finding them a new home. The suits were put into storage, never to be awakened again. Or so they thought…
Recently, a new development has been made by the research and development team employed by the government, working under the Revolutionaries. The group has discovered a “new world” of sorts. The Revolutionaries were extremely excited to hear that this world had been discovered, as it could prove to be a new home for mankind. But information is very slim, they have no knowledge of this worlds origin, atmosphere, anything really, other than that they knew it existed somewhere, and that they were able to access it via a technological link they set up upon the world‘s discovery. Anxious to study the new world, and hopeful for a brighter tomorrow, the Revolutionaries have reawakened their suit project, and hope to send a team of suit equipped people to search the new world. The general public is currently being tested secretly, to see if they are capable to use a suit. One doesn’t have to be strong or smart to wield a suit, in fact, the exact requirements are unknown, but, it is rumored that a suit speaks to the heart of its user.
You are one of the people on the colony who has proven able to pilot a suit. The Revolutionaries have contacted you, and informed you of the current situation. Should you accept their terms, they will build you your own suit, one that rings true to your heart, and you will join the mercenary team who are researching this “new world”.
Character Sign-up:
Name: (Your character’s name.)
Gender: (Um, you got to options here…I don’t think it’ll be that hard…)
Age: (Too young might be difficult, because, as I mentioned earlier, your suit as only a slight extension of yourself, so the smaller you are, the smaller the suit is. Too old, and you may not be qualified to pilot a suit without putting your life in danger.)
Self-Description: (What do you look like? Be specific, detailed, and creative. It is a futuristic, yet somewhat impoverished world you live in.)
Personality: (What do you act like? Again, descriptive please.)
Suit Sign-up:
Name: (You don’t really get to pick the ‘real’ name of your suit, as that is decided by the manufacturer, but its ‘nickname’ can be picked by you. Nicknames are preferred to be one word, but they can be longer, just not too long. So pick one!)
Suit Color(s): (What color is your suit. A suit has a main color, which is the color that makes up the whole of its body, a decal color, a color that is put in certain places to augment the main color, and other places can be changed to slightly different shades between these two. Aside from that, you’ll have to have your suit upgraded to further change its color.)
Body Type: (I’m not leaving too much up to choice here, actually. All suits must be human shaped, since they are designed to fit around you. However, they can have modifications, such as larger arms, longer legs, etc. There are two ways to fill out Body Type, one is to use a suggested model (to be posted later), and the other is to use a Custom Body type, or one you suggest and create yourself. If you’re questioning whether something is questionable or not, feel free to ask me via PM or just put it in the registration and I’ll give feedback.)
Weapon: (Weapons aren’t all powerful, or very flashy either, yet. Conventional weapons like bludgeons and blades and such are good, as well as arm mounted cannons, etc. You may use one two-handed weapon, or two one-handed weapons. Be warned though, that a combination of two one-handed weapons will be judged more strictly, and is as such less likely to pass. But I digress.)
Suggested Body Types:
This shall be a collection of possible suggested Body Types for your suit. These not only provide a standard option for those who don't wish to customize their suit as heavily, as well as giving guidelines for how much a suit can be modified.
Acrobat- The Acrobat is a lightweight type of model, whose smaller frame allows it to move much more easily than other suits. Acrobat's movement and evasive abilities are heightened, but its light frame offsets this by making it more physically weak, and susceptable to harm.
Heavy Arms- The Heavy Arms type is a mostly average unit, with very large arms, which give it a good deal of physical strength. It is arms allow it much more power when attacking, but its frame is very topheavy, and easily loses balance.
Heavy Legs- The Heavy Legs model is a mostly average unit, with very large legs, which offer a good deal of defense. It's legs improve its ability to withstand harm, as well as providing excellent balance, but this is at the expense of it greatly lowered speed and ability to jump.
Jumper- The Jumper is a midweight model, and is less heavy than most without compromising its armor. Jumper is excellent at jumping, and rather good at running, but it is easily knocked over.
Gameplay Info:
This RPG will be played slightly different than most RPG's, the biggest difference is the time system. As may have been explained before, suits are a great offensive and defensive tool, but they don't a very large supply of power. In fact, they are only capable of being piloted for 2 hours before they must be returned to the colony, to be recahrged for the next day. The time system is further augmented by the link to the "new world" which is not always stabily open. The time when the "new world" can be accessed fluxuates, and it will be announced when the link to the "new world" has first become stable, is beginning to lose stability, and when it becomes inaccessable. These two things together make the "new world" quite illusive and hard to study.
For the purpose of this RPG, this means that there are only certain times when characters are able to enter the "new world", and there is a time limit to how long you can spend in the "new world", which is two hours, in real time. For the rest of the time, either when you have expended your two hours, or the link closes (AKA downtime), you can continue to role play, as your character, and have inter-character relations, as well as talk to NPC's or eventually even upgrade your suit.
I don't mean for this system to hamper the RPG in any sense. It doesn't mean that because the link is down you should stop playing, in fact, its quite the opposite. Well, I think that'sa bout all I have to say. I hope you enjoy this RPG, and please feel free to ask any questions you have either here, or via PM.
EDIT: Oh, I knew there was something I forgot. And that would be an example sign-up.
Character Sign-up:
Name: Charles Lancaster
Gender: Male
Age: 41
Self-Description: Charles, one of the head offcials of the Revolutionaries, as well as an original test pilot of the suits, is a rather well built, tall, and daunting man. His face is stern looking, and his brown hair is tied mostly back in a ponytail, though a few bangs hang down over his face defiantly. His eyes are rough a brown, and there are various scars on his face, which is rough and scratch from beign unshaven for quite a while. Charles purposefully doesn't wear his uniform, or anything formal at all, choosing instead a brown leather jacket, and a pair of "I dont' care" type black slacks.
Personality: He's something of an agnry old man. He's quite fed up with his job, but enjoys piloting suits a lot. He volunteers to teach the new group of mercenaries about their suits. He prefers action to idle chatter, and likes to give visual demonstrations in addtion to explinations. He comes off as a rather vulgar person, but is actually quite kind... when no one is looking, anyway.
Suit Sign-up:
Name: SX003- Paladin
Suit Color(s): The main color is a sandy colored brown, and it is accented by a black decal in the standard places, the shins, forearms, and chest. The shield that the Paladin carries is also the same colored brown, with a black trim, and a golden pattern drawn on it, a coat of arms with no real meaning.
Body Type: Heavy Legs Type
Weapon: A Heavy Shield [One-Handed], and a Rifle [One-Handed]. The rifle is a standard gunmetal black, and the shield is snady brown with a black trim, and has a gold pattern in its center. Charles has not given these weapons a particular name.
And one final thing. As I said, two one-handed weapons will be judged quite sternly. Charles' suit has a rifle and a heavy shield because he is a more experienced character. A new character could not use both of these weapons, the heavy shield however could be substituted for a smaller 'light shield', or the rifle could be exchanged for a smaller weapon, such as a handgun. Well, I think that's it, really this time.
